have syndicated episodes on DVD and lackluster final seasons? lol

This is less about the first season DVDs and more about the final seasons. I mean think about it, Roseanne: Season 9 seems to be infamous for being bad. That '70s Show: Season 8 is famous for being bad, since Eric and Kelso were gone. 3rd Rock from the Sun's final season had Tommy in about half the episodes. The Cosby Show, of course had Cousin Pam and all of her friends. I haven't seen it, but A Different World was, I guess set in the "real world." I'm not sure about what other shows are Carsey-Werner. Is Grace Under Fire? Because that also seemed to have a lackluster (I like that word) final season.

Of course the quality of a show is in the eye of the beholder. But these seem to be my the majority of viewers to be lackluster final seasons. And of course, it seems they all have syndicated first seasons on DVD.

I would say they do have bad last seasons, or the season is bad and thats why its the last ... I think they keep shows going forever, so until a truly bad season comes along and scares viewers away (thus cancelling it) they keep making 'em.

But you also have to think. back in 1988, they had the top 3 shows on television:

The Cosby Show was #1
Roseanne was number #2
A DIfferent World was #3.

I have to give them a lot of credit for that, because not many entertainment companies can pull that off(I don't think any other one had done that before)

I don't know about the final season of ROSEANNE, but I liked the final seasons of 3RD ROCK FROM THE SUN and THAT 70S SHOW.

Most hit shows final seasons are bad or at least sub-par to the rest of them because usually they run a few seasons longer than they should.

True. It just always seemed that Carsey-Werner shows went just one season too long.

And for the record, I'm not bashing these shows. It just seems that every Carsey-Werner show I've seen has a great run, but a lackluster final season.

I remember someone once saying that Carsey-Werner shows were all about quality shows. That's what makes it so big to see how they went out.

Grace Under Fire had a very bad final season... it was short, one of the main characters left... and the whole plot of Grace going to school in the previous season was thrown out the window on the first episode.....Plus Brett Butler looked horrible in the finale...

Yeah well Brett Butler had been drinking heavily and was in rehab... it was a very infamous episode.
