Well, I found one, Call to Glory, starring Craig T. Nelson of course in his "pre-Coach days". He plays Ramor Sarnac, an air force/or navy pilot. The setting is in the 1960's and it focuses on his family--and deals with some of the events of that decade, for example the civil rights movement, Cuban missile crisis, and so forth. The late Keenan Wynne played his dad.
Anyway, I really loved the show. Anyone remember the show, or have any info about whether it's in DVD?

Also (as usual, I have a penchant for some of these "one season wonders" that have had only a small following, but that viewers in general have not been that enthusiastic about.) Well here goes: the second show's setting is Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, and the 82nd Airborne Division. It focuses on a young NCO (non-commissioned officer, E-4 or E-5, corporal or sergeant). The setting is peace time and the stories revolved around regular, work-a-day conflicts on base. The main character, the NCO, was a dedicated soldier, in say, the 19 to 23 year old range. I don't know the name of the actor who played him. I obviously liked this show too, but it never generated a lot of interest to TV viewers. You could only relate to it if you had worked and lived in that environment. Again, it was a short-lived series, lasting one season--if that. But if it were available, I would be interested in buying it on DVD. Anyone know the name of the show?
(I might recognize the name of the show if I heard it.)

Two early 80's military shows were Emerald Point N.A.S. and For Love And Honor. Do they ring a bell?

I think For Love and Honor might. I'll check it out. Thank you very much!

The Call to Glory 2-hour pilot movie was released on VHS awhile back. You can probably find it on eBay or Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/6300218090/ref=nosim/happydaysonline3-20) .

Elisabeth Shue played the daughter. I'd like to see the show. I seem to remember it re-airing on A&E or another channel? I didn't remember it lasted a full season.

I Walk the Line and TJ--Thanks again

Yep! That's the Show. I remember the actor Gary Grubbs as the Company (Battery) Commander. It's all coming back to me now. It is definitely the show I was looking for!

I thought Call to Glory and For Love and Honor were both excellent shows.

(Incidentally, although I like(d) the sitcom "Coach", I personally think that Craig T. Nelson's serious roles are far more compelling, as in the first of the two shows mentioned in the previous sentence.)

I remember "Call to Glory" was on ABC; and the first show dealt with either the Kennedy assasination or the Cuban missile crisis; I'm not sure. That's all I know about it.

And yes, A & E reran it in 1989 or 90.
