Having a Canadian singer probably mattered to a few American singers who would like to have been in that spot. Alison Krauss would have been spectacular. Do any of you know who Alison Krauss is?

Alison Krauss plays fiddle and has a miraculous singing voice. She no doubt does not have the name recognithion of Celine Dion but that isn't why I brought her up. Some of the folks from the earlier country music discussion might be familiar with Alison Krauss. She is immensly respected for her talent in country and bluegrass although her range is wider than that. If you've heard her sing "Ghost in This House" you could imagine her singing a pretty pleasing rendition of "God bless America."
