My last name is Scottish (not surprising when you consider that both my parents are Scottish).
My last name is McIntyre and the commonly accepted origin of the name is from the Gealic 'Mac-an-t-saoir' which means "son of the carpenter". Although it also could have come from a prominant member of the Clan MacDonald who possesed a great deal of land in Kintyre. The principal family was the McIntyres who possesed the lands in Glen Coe and Loch Etive for several centuries untill they were forced to give the land up in 1806. The motto of the old McIntyre Clan was "Per Ardua" which means "through difficulties".
Actually, my last name was spelt 'MacIntyre' untill my grandfather changed it to 'McIntyre'. Don't ask me why he dropped the 'a' - I have no idea!

Mine's German, I believe. My mom's maiden name was Czechoslovakian, which is where her grandparents came here from... I don't know whether they were from the Czech part or the Slovakian part, though. Czechoslovakia isn't a country anymore...

My last name is Arzab. Recently in an e-mail I had heard that someone that had the last name as people in my family was Brazillian. My great grandfather was from Russia, so I that's where some of my family was from originally, but as for where the actual name originated, I'm not sure. There are also alot of people with the name Arzab in Polland, so that could have been a place that my family could have originated, too. But, most of my family doesn't know that far back in family history. So, really, no-one in my family knows for sure.

Geez alot of people on this board have German last names. My last name is suprise suprise it's German but almost all of the poeple in my town have German last names.
