I think I will post on this thread about this subject before some ignorant jackass posts with their thinly-veiled implication that he "deserved it" here as well, like in the other thread.

I've been following Steve's adventures for years, amazed by the almost sixth-sense he has when handling animals, and his love for them. Even with the deadliest snakes he could read what they were going to do, and yet he always handled them gently, holding them by their bodies and not strangling them by the neck as I always saw other snake handlers do until he came along.
I actually saw this story last night when it was just a scrolling message at the bottom of the news channel screen, and I was in total shock. I thought maybe it was an error, because I remember years ago there was a rumor that he was killed by a crocodile. But I had known that one couldn't be true. Steve Irwin wouldn't be killed by a crocodile, or a snake, because he knew them too well and he knew when to get out of the way. Unfortunately the human body can't react as fast in the water as it can on land.

This is a sad day indeed. He was a great guy. My condolences go out to Terri, Bindi, and Bob.
I guess the only consolation, if there is one, is that Steve went out doing what he loved doing.:crying:

This was so sad to hear about! The way he died was so accidental, it just seems strange. At least he passed away doing what he loves best.

Well, when you mess around with dangerous animals sooner or later somethings gonna happen. Some people like living life on the edge, I guess Irwin was one of those. In my opinion, I always thought the guy had a screw loose. I have sympathy for what happened, but for me it's no big loss. I never watched the guy whenever he was on TV.

September 4, 2006 The World Loses
My thoughts are for Bindi, Robert and Terri.
Steve loved his family and Bindi more than anything. Bindi saw her father as a hero as I'm sure a lot of little girls do. Steve was a hero too many and Monday the world lost a hero

Did anyone else see that he has apparently made a statement about releasing the video if something were to happen to him while the cameras were rolling? While I wouldn't want this for myself, it's up to him if he would want this televised. It seems harsh for the family, but I guess we will have to see what happens.

This news just makes me sick. The powers that be-1, Us-0. I feel bad for Terri also, how do you ever go on with such a loss of such a personality? I would be crushed. I hope she's doing well, and the kids, gosh... :cries:.

“A Special Edition Of 20/20 With Barbara Walters” will air as a one time only telecast on Wednesday, September 27, 2006 in the 10:00 - 11:00 PM ET/PT time period.

This is an ABC News exclusive, Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin’s widow, Terri, speaks for the first time to Barbara Walters since her husband’s tragic death on September 4, 2006 when a stingray’s barb pierced his chest. Ms. Walters will travel to Brisbane, Australia to interview Terri and visit with their two children, Bindi and Bob, as well as talk to John Stainton, Irwin’s longtime business partner and friend who was with him the day of his death

Thanks for the news, Pavan!

I have been waiting for some kind of interview with Terri (once she felt up to it, of course) to talk about Steve...I will be watching.
