LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Morgan Creek has begun the detective work on a kooky cold case. The production company has hired Jeff Sank and brothers Jason and Justin Heimberg to write a third installment of the hit franchise "Ace Ventura."

The two previous "Ventura" comedies -- 1994's "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" and the following year's "Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls" -- grossed more than $180 million domestically and helped establish Jim Carrey as one of the highest-paid comedy actors in Hollywood.

The latest pet project is expected to center on the eccentric detective's son, who steps into his father's shoes to take over the family business.

It is not yet known who will fill the pet detective's Hawaiian shirts, pompadour hairdo and 1972 Chevrolet Monte Carlo in the third installment.

The Heimbergs and Sank recently finished work on "Unnatural History" for Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer before completing "Iguanas," an animated feature for John Williams and Vanguard Entertainment.

I will not watch any Ace Ventura movies if Jim Carrey is not in them. I hope this movie will bomb so that studios won't get any more ideas like this. Leave a perfectly fine franchise alone, already!

Didn't the sans-Carrey bombs Dumb And Dumberer and Son Of The Mask teach these clowns anything?

I think Jim should be in it.

Unless the "Fun With Dick And Jane" residuals are just too darn good...

^ lol.

But ugh ... it's gonna end up like "Son of the Mask"... a cheap and stupid new movie that bombs.

And look for these Carrey-free sequels to Carrey films, coming soon:

"Liar Liar, Too!"
"The OTHER Cable Guy"
"Steve Almighty"
"Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotlesser Mind"
"And Irene"
"The Truman's Brother Show"

"Steve Almighty"

Actually, there's going to be an Evan Almighty starring Steve Carrell, so it turns out to be true! However, It will be directed by Tom Shadyac who also directed Bruce and Morgan Freeman will also reprise his role. This sequel actually has a chance of being good unlike Son of the Mask and Dumb and Dumberer with lame-o actors and directors.
