The Semester started great with my first 3 classes, but when I got to my fourth, I realized I had already had it. I go to the advisers office and she is not there so I have to deal with the student worker.
She drops the class I have already had and goes to add my new class and it shows me having a registration hold. She looked it up and said it was because I needed to take Accounting 2301. I took that in Spring 2000. So I couldn't register for that class until I can talk with the advisor which will not be in until tomorrow which is when I have to work. So instead, I am going to go and talk with the dean of my college. I am NOT happy.

I'm sorry, but I get so irritated with things like that. It's ridiculous, because now you have to take time off from work for this. And the worst part is that there's no way you can be compensated for something like that.
Well, I know you'll get through this because you've already taken the prerequisite, as you said. I don't blame you for going to the dean about this. I always go to the top too when stupid things like this happen.
Keep your head up.

Well, I finally got home, and this is still NOT settled.
The Dean was in a meeting all afternoon so I never could meet with him. I talked to one of his little underlings who said that there was nothing that they could do b/c only the advisor can take off the hold.
I know that is wrong. All I needed was a letter from the dean and I could have had the register take it off, but I couldn't get to the dean because he was in a meeting all afternoon. AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHH!
So I will be calling her (the advisor) in the morning to make an appointment because I am MAD, and she has some explaining to do.
To top that off, while I was investigating the registration hold, I found that somebody (i.e. the advisor) had tried to sign me up for a mechanical engineering class. So I am not to happy with this as well.
On top of all that, I am fighting with the business office because I have a lab fee on my tuition and I am not taking any labs. I found out that the fee is going towards my Finance class.
So, to say the least, I am going to be arguing with the different offices for the next week or so.

College problems huh? I'm with ya.
I have 4 classes and only one doesn't suck. And those dang lines to buy $50 books that are worth $10.

$50 Books!!!! I wish! I just went and bought 2 books, thats it. No pens, pencils, paper, folders, NOTHING. I paid $192. But, looking on the bright side, that was the least I have paid in a few semesters and I even had one book that was actually less then $100. It's been awhile since I have had one of those.

Sounds like our educational institutions are getting more careless these days. A few years ago when I started off at a JC- I loved it. This was before telephone registration and computers started to take over everything. If there's any problem I've been having with the state university I attend now- it's financial aid. I've had an endless # of problems w/ financial aid during the past year, and to make matters worse, it's very difficult to talk to the financial aid advisors on the phone, much less make an appt. w/ them. Ridiculous.

Ags2000, I see you're on the net at about the same time as me. A word of note: Some instructors give thorough lectures, almost to the point where you don't have to buy the book. And some of them put their books on reserve in the library. I know this won't work for all your classes, but you just might find those types of classes.

I appreciate it FOL & DS fan 4ever however, I am an accounting major and we have to have the books because of the work we do. It's ridiculous the prices they are charging for books now adays.
I've had some time to cool off since all of this happened yesterday. I think I vented to everyone. My sister was laughing at me. lol She helped me to calm down. Anyway, I am going to talk with the advisor today and the dean tomorrow. I'll let you know how it turns out.
Oh by the way, guess what?????? IT'S RAINING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHOOOHOOOOOOOOOOO!! We have SO needed rain down here. This is the third strait day that it has rained. It was great walking to class in the rain. Ahhhh!

Accounting huh? I see why the high book prices. I'm in English. I got off easy so far with only 2 books for my Am. Lit. class, but I just added a 20th c. fic. class, so who knows now.

Accounting...eek! Been there, done that- I was once a business major. Well, maybe my suggestion will work for a GE course, that is, if you need to take any. And I know about the cost of college textbooks- there were times I paid as much as $75 for one lousy book.

Well, guess what? I tried to go and talk to the advisor today and, guess what...She was NOT in AGAIN today. I left I don't know how many messages before I finally called the deans office. He was out so the lady asked if she could help me with anything. So I told her that I was a senior and I had a problem. I told her I was in there yesterday because the advisor had put a hold so I couldn't register for a new class. The lady jumped in Oh yes ma'am. I've been trying to get a hold of her all day long so that we can take care of your problem.
I had to try really hard not to laugh. She told me that I could come in tomorrow and see what they have done. I told her that was good because I had to work today, as a matter of fact I was calling from my office right then. I told her I would be in tomorrow when I had class. She said that was good and she would see me then.
I then asked her if it would be possible to have the dean write a letter saying that the hold that was put on me was a mistake and he gives his permission to take it off. Then I could take the letter to the register and have him take it off. She was quiet for a few minutes. I could just picture her thinking, how does she know to do that?
She tols me that we can look into that tomorrow. lol http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif
Anyway, I guess I'll see what will happen tomorrow.

Ya I'm majoring in Office Technology and I need 7 books for that and they cost $290 and my sister-in-law is majoring in Graphic Arts and she only needs 2 books and they only cost $60 and I thought that wasn't fair but what could I do.

Well, I finally got the hold taken off this morning. Turns out, it wasn't for they class that I had retaken Spring 2000, I had a hold on me for a class I need to take that I am already signed up for. (IDIOT!!!!!) So I now have all of that strait.
So on to other matters. I went by and asked the dean why I was getting charged a lab fee when none of my classes have labs. After doing some investigating on my own, I found that the fee is for my finance class. There is NO lab for my finance class.
When I told them it was for my finance class, they asked me how I knew that. I told them I had asked around and talked with some people in CIS (Computer Information System, all the programers) and they looked it up and told me, I had also asked the idiot advisor and she told me it was for the finance class. They said Oh.
They told me that there used to be a fee way back when they used the computers for some stuff in the class. But now that we have a flat fee for the computers he (the dean)didn't think that we should have a fee for that. So they are going to look into it and get back to me.
On top of that, I have to go and talk to the business office now because they say I owe them money for adding the class today. See I dropped that one class Tuesday, but never could add that other class. So they have cut me a refund check already for the 3 hours and now they are saying I owe it back to them now. AAAAAARRRGGGGGGG!!!! Will this never end?

Probably not. You have left the child stage and entered the adult stage. And it'll only get worse as you get old.

I feel your pain Ags2000. All us college kids have been there, one time or another.
As for $50 books. Alas, this is also a pipe dream for me. If my texts only cost $50 I'd be dancing the jig every quarter. As it is I have started to do like FOL&DS Fan4Ever...sometimes I don't even buy the book. But mostly I have to, and I do buy and usually keep the books for my major, since they do come in handy at a later date.
As for lab fees.....yeah what the heck is up with that? I often get charged lab fees when there is no lab. But it is usually nominal, like 5 bucks. Now, I know I really should fight the man and argue about it, but mostly it isn't worth the headache for $5. I know, it's sad.
Anyhoo, hope things get better for you Ags2000. I'm sure they will in a few weeks once all this gets straightened out. But then of course midterms will be looming. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/wink.gif
I still have about 3 weeks before I go back...
