Somewhat of a Life dilema... advice wanted... bad

alright, to make a loooong story short, let me give yous ome background information.

When i graduated from high school, i had every intention of going to a University and getting my second-education degree and teaching middle school. Well due to financial situations, and wanting to get married, and the fact that I let my parents talk me out of getting a teaching degree, I decided to go to a two-year school and get my AA. Well, i got it. It's in Computer Technology, and I am working full time now @ a company.

I absolutley hate my job. While the pay is good, I am miserable there. I really don't feel like this whole thing is what I am suppose to do. I keep looking back at my education degree, that was thje one thing I got compassionate about. I love kids, and love the idea of teaching. I want to go back and get my degree so bad, but i'm scared to death. It will be quite a financial pressure on me and Jonathan, plus, and I know this is immature, but my parents are going to flip out. Not that I care, but it's def. something in the back of my mind.

Now, Jonathan supports me 100%, but i'm still scared to death. Any advice????????????????????????????????????

My advice to you: Do what makes you happy. It'll be a hard road, probably with many bumps along the way, but if you feel your passion is with teaching, I think you should take that risk. If you don't, you'll be stuck at your job now and you might just keep wishing you could be teaching, or forever regretting not going in that direction.

I say take a few courses if you can afford to do so (with money and time) and work towards that teaching degree. Keep your job now as back-up, but look in to getting that degree on the side. It might take you a long time to finish, but at least you'll have that degree in the future and can go from there.

I think if teaching is really want you want to do with your life, you should do that. Do what you are passionate about. Follow your dreams. And, why would your parents talk you out of a teaching degree? If you really think you'll like teaching and it's something you're passionate about I don't see why you shouldn't. Some people in life may be the type for marriage, but there are also people who prefer marriage and a career. Just keep your job so you'll be able to pay for your education. Good luck. :)

I really agree w/ Kristel. Your parents are not you; they are not understanding that teaching is something you REALLY want to do. You really should go for it, go back to college, take as many classes as you can possibly afford and work towards that teaching degree.

Plus, the United States could REALLY use teachers who are qualified and passionate about their jobs. There is such a low number of teachers who possess these two qualities.

You need to do what's going to be fulfilling for you. If sitting at a desk for eight hours in front of a computer doesn't make you happy, I don't blame you; I sit in a cubicle, myself, and I can relate all too well to the movie Office Space. It's not for everyone.

If you want to finish school and get your teaching degree, I say go for it. You're young, and you seem passionate about it. And, as Allison pointed out, kids in the United States definitely need good teachers, especially since a lot of the baby boomers are starting to retire.

Sure, it's going to be rough sailing balancing school, work and your marriage, but it can work. The ends would definitely justify the means.

Follow your dreams or you'll regret it down the road. You have a great husband who backs you up. What do your parents have against a teaching degree? You have to live your life for you and your husband. It's all different now, married lady. ;)

Well, you're an adult and married. We can't always do what makes our parents happy. If you want to go back to school they should applaud you for that, that shows that you want to have a better future for you and your family and plus it'll make you happy.

My mom went back to school and was working on getting her nursing degree about a year ago, but both my sisters got sick at the same time, so mom dropped out. I know that she would tell you to go for it and get your degree because she regrets dropping out every day. I'm in college now and I'll be the first one in my family to get my degree. So, be a good rolemodel for you kids(or future kids) and get the degree in teaching if that's what will make you happy. :)

Well, I have decided to go back... after a lot of thinking, and praying, I am going to start in the spring to give me and Jonathan enough time to save up a little for hte first year's tuition. I talked to my parents, and to my suprise, they were actually supportive (long story behind why I was worried about them.... i'll save that for another post!!)

Awesome! Check to see if they have night or weekend classes, and online ones too. I'm taking some classes now and they are all online...so much more convenient for people who work.

You don't have to make a sudden change, but I think you should follow your dream. Teachers on my staff, who are also computer tech people are so valuable to education, they are like gold. Even if you teach a subject other than computers, your expertise in that area will be a tremendous asset to fellow teachers, as well as students.

Thought i'd give you all an update... i went to see a couselor today, and if i was asking for a sign, I got it! Everything went beyond perfect. I got registered for classes, no problem, financial aid went perfect... start classes next week! Got majority of online classes, and only 1 night class, so it's going to be awesome. I am more excitd now that I was when I started back the first time.
