Not to be outdone, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment is wrapping up its series of "complete season" sets of "M*A*S*H" with a 36-disc boxed set that contains all 11 seasons, the "MASH" film and two bonus discs of never-before-seen extras, including a trivia game, a featurette on the show's fan base and a 30th anniversary reunion of cast and crew. The "Martinis and Medicine Collection" is due November 7 at a suggested retail price of $199.98; season 11 comes out individually the same day.
This is just one of the many, many aspects of TV on DVD I hate. You pay an arm and a leg for individual seasons and then a cheaper boxed set is released, with extras. Classy.

While I don't like them doing that (I, too have been collecting the season sets for years) I intend to buy the big collection. Of course, I won't be able to buy any other DVDs that week. I might to cut back on my eating too. lol But I'm anxious to see the bonus features.
You know, if they're bonus discs with the features on them, why can't they just include the bonus discs along with season 11? Why to they have to make a big production out of it and re-release the entire series? Plus, I already own the movie.
I don't like that they're including a bunch of DVD extras with the box set.
It's not fair to the fans who have been collecting the DVDs season by season.

Amen. We've already plopped down (on average) $30 per season. That's $300 for those of us who have bought all ten currently-available seasons. Now they want us to spend $200 on this monstrosity?
I'm on the fence on this. I was thinking about selling off all my season sets (taking a loss on them, of course) and buying the big box. But if the special features are just the original film (which I already own) and the 30th anniversary special, it's a no-sale.

I only own Seasons 5 & 6, but i think i'll just give those away and buy this set, its very cheap considering all the stuff you get......

thats the right thing to do...

I second that. I would love to have all the extras.
I'm a sucker. I sold seasons 1-10 over the weekend (but kept the movie for its bonus disc, which won't be included in the box set) and will be buying the set in November.
Yeah, Fox got me. But the packaging does look neat, even though the pouches aren't really going to keep the discs safe. I'm going to house them all in slimline jewel cases, like I do with the Freaks And Geeks Yearbook Edition.

Are you sure? Because the TVShowsOnDVD article makes specific mention of the bonus features only being available as part of the complete series.

It's a business. If you follow Fox and it's Planet of the Apes history or Aliens history you will see patterns. The animated show "only available in the HUGE set" will now be out 10/03. Just wait 100% it will be released.
I was thinking of selling the 3 sets I do have and buy this, I really hate the look of the dual clamshell cases of the way this series came out, but the show really goes back and forth with the quality. In all honesty, it was just on way too long.

But in the case of Return to the Planet of the Ape (the animated PotA series), it is a standalone series so it makes sense to release it individually. I cannot think of any example of bonus features from a "complete series" being released individually. I certainly hope it happens, but I have my doubts.

Question; hard to tell by the pics but is this TALLER than a standard dvd case? If so I would have trouble displaying this with my other sets. Is it A LOT taller? I have maybe an inch space beyond a standard case:(
