Okay....lately I have noticed this much more.
Used to be when you were watching a tv show- during the commericals they would say, what was coming next.
Or various advertisments.
Then, they added- each channel, added a little icon at the bottom.
To REMIND you of what you were watching.
OKay fine. Its a little irritating, but fine.
A tiny SCIFI logo, or tiny TNT logo, isn't going to kill my viewer enjoyment
But, this new show, the Nightmares and Dreamscapes, from TNT-
They have the logo at hte bottom
And then liek every 20 sedonds a fader comes up from the bottom of the screen telling you YOUR WATCHING NIGHTMARES and DREAMSCAPES
and NEXT is an all new episode.
GRRR
It cover sup about 30 percent of the screen
And NOT just that, then they let it run for a few more seconds, telling you other useless crap I don't want to know MID show.
Save it for the commericals, or better yet DON"T put it there.
I am really irritated with this.
Is one thing to remind me of the channel
It is another to deplete the screens viewbaility to remind me to watch a new episode of the show I am already watching.
Anyone other than me find this irritating?

Great!! I have those recorded and planned on watching the whole run when the 8 eps finish. Now, the only thing I will be able to focus on is the damn banner ads....I would say those type of ads are about as annoying as the pop-up ads on THIS site....UUGH!

the worst is on F/X sometimes
when they have HANK HILL ride his tractor across the bottom of the screen during a movie!!!

SCI FI Channel has begun using a very large purple banner along the bottom and, yes, it takes up a good portion of the screen. Very annoying.

It's all relative because in 20 years or so some collectors may place a premium (similar to w.o.c) on episodes that feature those banners or Hank Hill driving across the screen. :D

hey savage
heres an easy solution to the bottom banner
get a wide screen tv
and set the screen so that the bottom will be totaly cut off
my philips has a setting that will cut off the entire bottom of things like sports center bottom scores
cnn bottom ticker. etc
then the stupid banners will be gone
as fara s the lame logos, they are here to stay
i read the reason they are on the screen , is so other stations cant record the show, and replay them, since they ahve the scifi logo, it would give the local station away
who knows, who cares, they stink, no matter the reason

Those things are horrible. And you're right they seem to get worse each year. Who knows, by the year 2010 I wouldn't be surprised if they just split the screen in half-- on one half would be the program you're watching, and the other half would be a preview of what's coming up next. Damn TV networks.

The clear ones don't bother me as much as the color ones.

My local fox station has this annoying news preview ticker thing that takes over about 1/4 of the screen about every 10-15 mins during prime time shows now. They keep it up for at least 30 seconds too. Wondering if anyone else has the same thing going on with thier fox stations.

My Fox affiliate has done that a few times, but I think only for breaking news relating to weather:

The nets are SO afraid of channel flipping they feel the need to "BRAND" themselves, when in fact this very act will CAUSE the flipping.
Hey, anyone else still think that Max Headrooms "Blipverts" are that far off from being reality at this rate?

I tink the comparison to the ads vs POPUPS is excellent
And we all know, what people do with popups.
When advertising goes to annoyance
And when descriptions go to distraction
You don't get my Nielson Rating.
Savage, whos cutting her rabbit ears off.

NBC and TNT/TBS were showing all of the pit crews coming out and
changing some imaginary car tire when they were doing nascar.
Talk about distracting.

Yeah during Nightmares and Dreamscapes the chick form the CLOSER, holds up a police line do not cross sign and shines a flashlight across the screen.
Really classy.

The other thing that I dislike is when the networks feel the need to animate the "bug" as it comes on the screen. Who cares if it's animated? Just put it on if you want it on the screen.
