Solomon, it's time to ditch the Web TV. What's the point in buying a nice, new laptop when you are surfing the web with ancient technology like Web TV? Even dial-up would be better than Web TV. Websites are not designed to be viewed on your TV set, lol.

 2002 is then, 2006 is now. Get on with the program. You have seriously outdated service. High-speed is a lot cheaper these days than it was when high-speed was first introduced in the 90s.
You can get a VERY basic, bare-bones Dell computer for $300 with the mail-in rebate. I don't know about ya, but I think it sounds like a VERY good deal to me. And it'll *GASP* ACTUALLY work for you!! Oh my! What an amazing concept! :faint:

The reason why I don't my laptop is because I don't have call waiting if I connect to the web and my Internet service on the Laptop is free until January. Plus I have gotten use to the Bigger Screen which is my TV and it's hard to go to a smaller screen on Laptop

Make sure the Dell has a dvd burner because right now in the trading section Solomon is attmpting to trade tapes, while everyone else is trading dvds. That's 1975 technology. You send him a dvd and he sends you a tape. He doesn't listen to us there and I'm curious if he listens here.

Not a dvd recorder but a dvd burner. You can get a NEC 3550 which to me is the best made for less then 40 bucks, including shipping, and your up to date. Instead you want all to revert to your outdated vhs tapes. If I only had a penny for everyone who has told you no more tapes. A dollar a day and in month it's yours. With all the discussions in the trading section not one has come forward to say they trade tapes but you still offer tapes. It's like a meeting of the vegetarian society, and someone shows up from the cattleman's society advocating the benefits of eating meat. As the young lady said "it's 2006, be with it"

That's great that you have all these rare hard to find shows with original commercials but wouldn't it be easier to copy it on a dvd so they don't have to convert then send them a outdated vhs tape. To find a vhs machine in a store as a stand alone gets harder then ever. The old Model T was great in it's day also but times dictate change.

It's no way I'm lending out an Original Airing from 1982 with Commercials on DVD-lol See with sports if it was to get lost in the mail i can get it from another trader. Either way, it's not at all THAT hard to upgrade what you have, and for cheap. I got my stand-alone DVD recorder 1 1/2 years ago for $250. The same DVD recorder is $100 now. Remember when VCRs first came out, they were $700+. Now they're super-cheap but also super-crappy, because they don't make them like they used to.
Computers were literally 10,000 dollars or more when they were first introduced decades ago. They were $3000 or more in the first part of the 90s, and they were top-of-the-line for their time. Now with all the right deals, you can get a decent computer for super-cheap. You don't have to sell your first-born for a new computer. You can even purchase new hardware for your computer for a decent price. I see internal DVD burners at Target that run for $40. A Gilmore Girls DVD set costs a little less than that. I can certainly afford a DVD burner, and I think you can too. You just need to know how to shop around, it doesn't sound like you know how to shop around.
Same for computers... You can build your own computer for a decent price. Less than what a Dell desktop computer would cost w/o a mail-in rebate. You can get high-speed internet for under $40 a month, you just need to know how to look around.
It's not hard, Solomon. Shop around. REALLY shop around. Get up from your chair, stretch, pick up your wallet, leave the house and go look around Philadelphia. Come on, Philadelphia itself has roughly 1.5 million people. There's gotta be SOMETHING you can find in that city of yours. Get on with it.

But do we have to keep up in every way possible?
I can see it might be annoying for people to receive tapes, but I don't see anything wrong video players. I still have one myself.
And I don't keep up with the times in every way. For instance, I like old music - 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s. The Bee Gees are great. I don't really listen to much modern music.
Besides, how do we know this is 2006? How do we know that it's not really 1955 and we've just been tricked into thinking it's 2006?

I too love the music from the 50's, having a massive collection of old do-wop and rockabilly. It's the technology I'm speaking of. Don't have them saved as 78's, or do I have a old turntable. Don't believe they even make them anymore. I have my music stored on dvds, in mp3 format. Some dvds have well over 1000 songs on them. Many play their music, whatever the era on Ipods. Again the latest technology. You wouldn't see 8 track cassettes as a storage or listening device.

I'm not convinced this is 2006. I think it's 1955.
Will give you a example if I may. There is a chap by the name of John Whitburn who took a particular year and with a formula figured how many times a song made the top 100 for a given week, top 50, top 40 etc, and then took gross sales. Based on this he would deterine the rankings for the year. Some years after 1950 had upwards of 500 songs that made the top 100 in a given week. ! have all the tunes in order for each year from 1891 thru 1980. Really didn't like music after that period. If they were stored on 78's I would need 3 homes to store them. Mp3 technology and dvds allow me to save them with as little space as possible and with no loss in quality.
Here is the order for the songs from the year 1955 that you mentioned. I can convert them to audio cds in moments. Take 24 and make a cd in less then 10 minutes.

I am glad he slowed it down. I couldn't read it the first day it came out. Now I can so it doesn't bother me now.

If they were stored on 78's I would need 3 homes to store them. Mp3 technology and dvds allow me to save them with as little space as possible and with no loss in quality.
Cool! That's a very impressive list. I agree that DVDs beat turntables in terms of space, but I've heard some people say that CDs are supposed to have a superior sound quality to turntables. I myself don't notice any difference, although they may well be superior. But I still like turntables as well; I think they're quite cute.
You say you're not really into music after 1980; did you like any songs in the 1980s by artists that were already established in the 1960s/1970s? Did you like any Billy Joel songs from the 1980s, for instance? Or Stevie Wonder?

This is what I have on the Bee-gees and a folder entitled Motown singles. Again you can imagine the hassle of using 1955 technology. If you want anything email me off line.

SETH an administrator also echoed the sentiments
NOONE SAID A WORD
Lilhave agreed with those opinions
and somehow u think Lilhave is picking on solomon?????
i do not see solomon saying that? i wonder if HE feels that way?

SOLOMON and i have traded several times and are on good terms--- we have no issue
we disagree sometimes, true but its not personal
AS FOR WHETHER A MEMBER reports a post or not
that is CONFIDENTIAL and as a moderator you would have access to such info, but i question whether or not you are allowed to publicly post as such?
maybe u can clarify on those rules and confidentiality?

Your wrong again. I didn't defy TJ. Ask him? He and Kim reached a decision without your wisdom and imput, as hard as that may be to believe. As Seth pointed out the thread was on Solomon joining the 21st century and you decided to hijack it and discuss my jokes. Possibly you want my take on the diminishing habitat being experienced by the Gila monster?
As far as feeling sorry for Kim having to deal with me, don't get personal pal, or is it Mr. Moderator.?
Harvey
I did and I know the whole story. You are a revisionist. You want to see things only your way. I know the initial deal and you defied it. Keep telling yourself that didn't happen, because I know the truth.
As for getting personal, I do feel sorry for Kim constantly having to babysit a few of you over there. She has been stressed out unfairly by some of the TP clique. It really is sad. Considering your age, I think you would know better.

Sir im not going to argue back and forth with you
you are a moderator and as such as supposed to MODERATE issues
NOT fan the flames
i NEVER repeat NEVER EVER EVER see solomon post that anything i have said offends him
NEVER
and in fact, he has emailed me direct and told me FLAT OUT
that he was NOT offended at all by any of my comments
and he was NOT Bothered IN THE SLIGHTEST!!! (if im not mistaken those might be his exact words)
i would cut and paste his email here-- BUT that is against the rules, so suffice to say, solomon has told me that he is not bothered
so if he is not bothered by it, i fail to understand how someone else is
i have no issues with him at all, he says a LOT of things that i disagree with, so there is some back and forth banter--- he OPENS the door wide open sometimes with the comments he makes---- and im 100% SURE that he realizes that and enjoys starting debates and starting controversy, because he keeps the boards lively and fun to read
as for REPORTING anyone---- i report ANY post that i think is wrong or crosses the line or breaks the rules--- whether its by tvresearcher or lilhave or even you---- b/c i feel strongly that as a board--- we need to try to work together to keep the boards safe and fair, and do our part by reporting rules violations and general bad situations to the moderators and to TJ
im truly sorry that you feel so strongly that people are out to get him, apparently he does not feel that way, and i do not feel that way--- i do not know what to say or how else to convey that fact----
perhaps TV RESEARCHER himself could address it in a public post of such, to put such rumors to rest

Last night you opened your toilet and had no idea what you were talking about. Did you check with TJ that I had permission to post my jokes? Today it's the same sewer mouth without the facts. I reported Solomon ONCE, not numerous times as you state. That was last week when he called Mr. Stefani, dumbfani, claimed he must be on medication and is retarted.
One more time get your facts straight before you accuse. Check with TJ and see if you have the guts or brass set to report here that it was once not numerous.
And this is a moderator?

I don't think he's being grouchy. Besides, he has some great music - including stuff by the excellent Gibb brothers.

You may have thought it hilarous, and just in fun but TJ didn't think it was so laughable and immediately told him to forget it and give up webtv. Yes, I thought TJ was dead serious and Solomon kept it up with "I like the big screen and go back to the way it was in 2002." Looked like Seth also bought solomon's act.

NOONE bashed them or used bad language at them, and some of them posted MORE THAN ONCE disagreeing with him
BUT if i post that i disagree with him, then i get jumped on??? and the potty mouth comments come out?

now tvresearcher and i disagree a whole lot--- but its never ugly and never personal, we never call each other names or insult one another and never get offended by the other--- we disagree sometimes in chit chat, sometimes in spinoffs, sometimes in the trading posts--- sometimes in the individiual show boards like GOOD TIMES---
but we never get ugly over it, YET when i disagree with him on this point, i get jumped on and insulted as if i have attacked him personally, which i have not and which i have pointed out that he NEVER posted being offended and has emailed me privately when things like this come up saying he was NOT offended
*** IF U DO NOT BELIEVE ME ask tvresearcher to post on this matter--- he and i have traded several times-- no problems, both were happy, he even emailed me and told me that he was NOT BOTHERED BY anything i said, so i just dont see how people think that b/c i disagree with him, politely and nicely without insults, that somehow means im out to get him????*****
as for taking him seriously or not, a lot of people do and a lot of people dont, but the fact is that im 100% sure that he makes statements and posts like this FOR THE PURPOSE of creating a back and forth debate
i was NOT lecturing him at all, and its not a matter of "leaving him alone" as i do NOT pick on him, and if u read some of my posts--- he often disagrees with me as well and posts as such
i just do not understand the logic of people who will read that 1 member disagreed with tv researcher, and then read from 4 or 5 others and ALL OF THEM DISAGREE with him, and no reaction, then LAMONT posts that he disagrees and THAT somehow causes all this anger? when i am NOT SAYING ANYTHING that the owner, and several moderators and administrators allready said????

For the most part, Solomon's threads are harmless (this one included), and everyone here knows that. I edit a lot of member's posts all the time. It means nothing. He was suspended for one day because he lost his temper. He also apologized.
Listen, anyone with half a brain can see that there are a few from the Trading Post that don't like Solomon. The days of ragging on him at the TP are over because Seth is a moderator there now.
So now, Solomon is under constant scrutiny on Chit Chat. And you're leading the band Harvey. We all see it.

Make sure the Dell has a dvd burner because right now in the trading section Solomon is attmpting to trade tapes, while everyone else is trading dvds. That's 1975 technology. You send him a dvd and he sends you a tape. He doesn't listen to us there and I'm curious if he listens here.
Harvey
Harvey's first post. He wasn't just stating that he disagreed with it but he was trying to bring all that TP garbage over to chit chat. Nobody else makes it personal with him.
That's it in a nutshell. Also, there are plenty of other posts to get worked up over, if one is determined to get their panties in a bunch over something. It's always about Solomon with certain members.

well on that we agree---
i AM longwinded and always have been

but, since it seems as if the actual FACTS and POINTS i try to make go unnoticed and people stop reading once they see its me and just pounce on me, i figured id try to explain it so that a chimpanzee could read it and understand

Let's cut the poop Lamont and Harvey, you guys hardly ever post here, but if it is a Solomon thread, WATCH OUT! You are all over it. Solomon might not seem like he is bothered, and at times he isn't, but I damn sure know for a fact that it gets tiresome for him at times to post a thread and constantly get ridiculed. Solomon is a great guy and deserves so much better. He may brush it off, but there are plenty of us over at CC that see a pattern with the two of you...especially ol' Harv.

i wont go on and on about it
u have your opinion, but quite frankly its wrong
i do post here on occasion
i do not hassle tvresearcher
i have emailed him directly and asked him
and he replied no, its cool and we moved on
the only ones who cannot move on are others
who must not be as informed
you have always seemed like a good guy, and i recall i even sent u a freebie disc when i was new on the board
nothing personal, no hard feelings
u r still ok in my book but i disagree:wave:

It's the culmulative effect. A casual observer can see that Harvey has it out for Solomon. We've read sarcastic remarks. So, when he posts about Solomon's unfair trading with VHS tapes, we all know the deal. Nobody's fooling anyone here.
Solomon makes a funny post on the Trading Post asking who's posting at another message board. He jokingly called out Harvey. Instead of just going along with it and taking it with good nature, Harvey starts in with the fake outrage. God Lord, take it as a compliment that Solomon singled you out.
He posted the same thing a while back at the Good Time's board, and nobody flipped out.
http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?t=174608
He does it at the sports board. Subject Line: JANICE: THE PATRIOTS BLEW IT- LOL!
And I laugh and tell him to shut up. The Patriots will whip your team every time Solomon.
Lighten up when it comes to Solomon's threads. Chit Chat survived for years without this constant scrunity of his posts and threads. These days, it's one big indictment of Solomon. I'm not putting up with it.

Please Janice don't insult my intelligence with Solomon is only joking all the time. Your not a psychic reader. You have no clue in which direction Solomon is heading, I don't like anyone accusing me of doing something when they don't what there talking about. He instituted the thread and made accusations to me. As far as your concerned I should laugh it off because we all know Solomon is a jokester. He was suspended, someone didn't think he was funny. He accuses me of going to another board and talking about something, and I should say "boy, that Solomon, just a barrel of laughs"

You're a fussbudget with an agenda, and that's to tear down Solomon at every turn. He made that thread in good nature, and you know what, you know that. It's selective outrage with you. I know Solomon, and he is a jokester.
If you want to play board cop around these parts, open your eyes a little wider. There's more to it than just Solomon. I never see you reporting any other posts.
Go to the politic's board. It's like shooting fish in a barrel there. Oh wait - that's no fun for you. Solomon doesn't post there.

If people are going to start wigging out about every off color remark, you better learn to toughen up. It's pretty bad when members take offense because someone calls their mailman fat.

Oh give me a break. He lost his temper. Everybody has on Chit Chat at one time or another. I've been yelled at before and I've yelled right back. I never reported those posts. If I get called a bad name then so be it..it doesn't phase me a bit. I'm not going to run and cry about it. And anyone who's been around Chit Chat long enough know's Solomon and his threads. He even says that a lot of time it's not to be taking seriously. He just wants to have a good time.
He's called people out like that on other boards and it's all in good fun. Your problem is you have no sense of humor.

ok here is my view
1. maybe solomon is joking maybe not, BUT-- it would be smart, since some people apparently cannot tell the difference, maybe it would be smart if people WATCHED THEIR WORDS and thought it out more clearly before they posted, and if a comment is intended to be a joke, maybe it would make sense for the poster to post it in an OBVIOUSLY HUMOROUS way
2. if people are supposed to toughen up, and stop being so easilly offended, perhaps that could go BOTH WAYS? and people should perhaps stop being so easilly upset over a disagreement with tv researcher as well?
3. perhaps people should let others FIGHT THEIR OWN BATTLES? or at least wait to see if someone is upset BEFORE u start ASSUMING that they MUST BE UPSET and lashing out IN THEIR DEFENSE?
4. perhaps people should act like adults and EVEN IF a disagreement starts we should remember that fact (there is NO WAY TO MISINTERPRET someone calling my opinions "DRIED UP DOG S***" and i think comments like that are filthy mouthed and immature and should not be tolerated--- unless of course it was "joking")
maybe if we all did this before we posted-- less hassles?

this thread started and ALL THESE PEOPLE POSTED disagreeing with Solomon

If u read that u have the OWNER, several moderators and administrators--- WHO ALL DISAGREED WITH SOLOMON and his opinion
NOONE bashed them or used bad language at them, and some of them posted MORE THAN ONCE disagreeing with him
BUT if i post that i disagree with him, then i get jumped on??? and the potty mouth comments come out?
what is up with that?
now tvresearcher and i disagree a whole lot--- but its never ugly and never personal, we never call each other names or insult one another and never get offended by the other--- we disagree sometimes in chit chat, sometimes in spinoffs, sometimes in the trading posts--- sometimes in the individiual show boards like GOOD TIMES---
but we never get ugly over it, YET when i disagree with him on this point, i get jumped on and insulted as if i have attacked him personally, which i have not and which i have pointed out that he NEVER posted being offended and has emailed me privately when things like this come up saying he was NOT offended
*** IF U DO NOT BELIEVE ME ask tvresearcher to post on this matter--- he and i have traded several times-- no problems, both were happy, he even emailed me and told me that he was NOT BOTHERED BY anything i said, so i just dont see how people think that b/c i disagree with him, politely and nicely without insults, that somehow means im out to get him????*****
as for taking him seriously or not, a lot of people do and a lot of people dont, but the fact is that im 100% sure that he makes statements and posts like this FOR THE PURPOSE of creating a back and forth debate
i was NOT lecturing him at all, and its not a matter of "leaving him alone" as i do NOT pick on him, and if u read some of my posts--- he often disagrees with me as well and posts as such
i just do not understand the logic of people who will read that 1 member disagreed with tv researcher, and then read from 4 or 5 others and ALL OF THEM DISAGREE with him, and no reaction, then LAMONT posts that he disagrees and THAT somehow causes all this anger? when i am NOT SAYING ANYTHING that the owner, and several moderators and administrators allready said????
i just dont get itSince you mentioned my name, I'll respond to this. My disagreeing was not in a divisive way, it was just me offering an opinion. When you respond in a divisive way and target one person all the time, then you will get criticized, so you can't compare yourself to any of those others.
It seems that some people have carried their disputes off the trading board and over here.

Actually Sonny, I find that Harvey does has a great sense of humor. It just stops short when it comes to Solomon.
I've read some very funny posts made by Harvey, and I can see that he appreciates humor. Yes Harvey, I'm giving you a compliment.
This resentment started, I believe, when Solomon was suspended for doing something (don't recall) at the Trading Post months ago. Members at Chit Chat came to his defense, and his suspension didn't last long. I think that's where the bad blood started.
Harvey, why don't you try to drop your bitterness towards Solomon. It undeniably exists. Solomon is very popular at Chit Chat and the CC sub-forums. Even the members that he swore at recently are friendly with him again.
I'm giving you good advice when I tell you that your experience here will not be pleasant if you continually needle Solomon. That's not a threat of any kind. It's just a fact that most of us here really like Solomon. He's offbeat as all get out, but we get him.
I'm sure if someone was on your case at the Trading Post (or any TP regular), it wouldn't be a pleasant stay.
Even if you don't want to be friendly towards him...perhaps you should consider ignoring him. He won't bother you. If he does, let me know.

I will have to back up Lamont this time. The last few months it has been fun seeing him at Chit Chat. He has made polls, responded to ones, had opinion threads, done a lot of good. Harvey has done good to. Made some interesting questions like "what would you do in this situation". It is a nice change, over the years a lot of the same threads come back every few months and Harveys are new and original. I think they are fine in CC as long as Solomon is not involved. That is the only case here though. At the Good Times board Lamont doesn't say anything negative or can be taken the wrong way there. Just here in Chit Chat and it is only on a few occasions and not every time.

Personally, I have no problems with anybody on CC. I just wanted the gangups on Solomon to stop. Lamont and Harvey can go anywhere on this board, that is fine, just stop looking towards Solomon as ammunition. I think we can all coexist.

I'll call a truce. Lamont, I'm sorry if I may have lashed out on you. You are a good guy, a good trader and I think deep down, you don't mean any harm when it comes to Solomon. I apologize. Believe me, I am tired of fighting with the guys over at TP. It is really unnecessary. We can all coexist. Believe it or not, I had my problems with Solomon when I first got here because I didn't get his humor. I grew to understand him and his quirks. He can be a real nice guy and very sweet too. He recorded hours of tv for me just so I could get a commercial that only aired in the Philly market. He really is a good guy once you get to know him.
As for Harvey, I wave the white flag. Truce?

This isn't my area to moderate, but as a member/moderator I think any arguements at this point need to be taken privately.
I am sure at times it seems some users go out of their way to pick fights, maybe some users feel Solomon is picked on in the "traders forum"
and I am sure other users feel picked on in the "chit chat section"
The little battles have been going on for a bit- and the fact is those who post predominantly in one area, make friends, and their reputation is sound- so when arguement takes place many people kick in- and this often seems liek a lynching.
When in fact at times it is usually kindred loyalty.
I had a public diagreement with Solomon in a chit chat room, and at least 8 people IMed me telling me, literalyl to "go back to my own section"
Making me feel unwelcome to even post an opinion.
Were they being personal- no. But since they know Solomon due to his post count and interaction, they were less offended, or less bothered.
One of the benefits and drawbacks of many forums is each one has its own "click"
and that can often times lead to this exact situation.
My suggestion would be if you find yourself in an argument such as this, take a step back and ask if the situation were reversed, how would it be.
I am sure the users of this forum, are no more defending Solomon, that the trader forum defends lilhave and or lamont at times. Seriously.
Once you all can identify that- it might be easier to get along.
We all tend to take care of our own.
I have seen many a person log on to Traders Forum and pick a fight with Lamont, and go back 4 hours later to 18 comments in Lamonts defense.
I think we need to stop making each other feel segregated on forums and realize we are all part of the SAME board. With the same hobby.

As a sometime wearer of shoes, I must take exception to the tone of your comment involving forced foot attire.
I am truly offended. I have a lot of shoes that fit, yet I don't always wear them. Nor do I feel the need that I must, and I have no idea where you get off telling me what to do with my feet.
You should be a little more responsible in tossing out orders about footwear, some people are easily influenced. You said to wear "the shoe"- you know a person could get hurt going around with only one shoe on, all wibbly wobbly and such.
I mean badly hurt!

Heck, wanna talk about DVD recorders? You can buy a brand new DVD recorder at Wal-Mart for under $100. That's less than what I paid for a VCR just a few years ago.
Seth when I do buy a DVD Recorder I don' want it to be cheap, i want to spend $450-600. You have to pay the Higher Price for something you plan to use everyday

That's true. When I first got a DVD player I got an off-brand and it ruined a lot of my DVDs. It sort of soured me on everything DVD because I had never had any problems with my VHS tapes. I finally got another DVD player, this time a brand name and I haven't had any trouble with it at all.

I'll give you that much, I was just quoting the lowest price point to say it's possible. Personally though, I think there are some QUITE fine models in the $200-$300 range that don't look like "The Cheap Wal-Mart Special".

 i have had several and to be honest
they last as long as vcrs and are 1000X better
i have now 2 panasonic models, you can get decent ones for about $175 and have years of use
i also have a cheapo illo brand one from walmart that i got for $85 and it works just fine too
no problems at all
they are very cheap to get now and worth switching over to
And that same $900 DVD Recorder - which was purchased 4 years ago by her own account - would be one of those $200-$300 range models I mentioned.
And yes, I've always had extremely good fortunes with Panasonic problems.

Truthfully, the iLo brand is the one I'd avoid...I had two completely shut down due to a hardware "glitch" in a 3 month span. iLo's are just not worth it. Good to see you have good experiences with Panasonic as well.

Yeah, it was one of (if not the first) DVD Recorder Philips put out. Was probably one of the first DVD Recorders period. Look up any Philips model on amazon....no where near $900. Heck, 2 years later I bought the same model at the same store I bought the first one: $170.
