I've read about it online but I've never seen it in reruns anywhere. I read that it was supposed to air on TV One. Someone said it never happened. Does anyone know for sure? Any info?
I wish it would get a dvd release for those who haven't seen it. Probably won't happen though.

Caught an episode once when I was a kid. Can't remember much about it, though.

It wasn't a spinoff, it was a new TV show she starred in called One in a Million the year after What's Happening ended(1980)

Ahh, I see. So she wasn't Shirley Wilson anymore? I would really love to see this. Apparently, it was due to air on TV One but was taken off the schedule before it aired. I wonder if the masters are not available or what the problem is. I hope TV One reconsiders. :)

Good luck finding it. Solomon knows that quite a few of us have been looking for it to no avail.

I remember seeing it when it first aired, and I thought it was funny back then. Of course, I was only 9. LOL

Which studio owns the rights to it? If it is a Sony title anybody with Comcast On Demand can suggest it on the On Demand website. It only lasted a season, so they should be able to show all of the episodes.

Wasnt the show only on for a few weeks? I cant imagine something like this being released unless it had a huge demand.

It's amazing. It's like this show was swallowed into the pit of lost tv shows. I haven't been able to find a screencap or opening shot of what this show looked like aside from the pics listed under Sitcoms Online. Will we ever get to see this show?
I'm starting to think that it would be a money-maker for any company to release on dvd since it is nowhere to be found. Do we know who owns the rights? This has got to be #1 on the list of lost tv shows. :(

...was originally conceived as a "vehicle" for DESI ARNAZ. When negotiations with him fell through, ABC and the production comapny decided on Shirley Hemphill to star instead. There was a good reason why it lasted 13 episodes....not to mention a bad time period [Saturdays, 8-8:30pm(et)]. Sony Pictures Television owns the rights to the show....IS it a good idea to release it "On Demand" or on DVD?

It would be ideal if it was released on DVD but I'd be happy with just seeing it on "On Demand". :)

Not sure why you asked me the same question twice, but I can answer you twice by saying, NO, NO, I do not have it save for network promos. I pretty much have a general idea what I have and don't have, now finding some of the stuff sometimes is a major chore.

What are the promos like? I want to see this show so bad. I'm hoping VEI would follow-up with their release of "The Stockard Channing Show" by offering other rare, hardly-seen shows. I've already e-mailed them and suggested it. If you're interested, drop them an e-mail and let them know about Shirley's show and any other rare show you might want to see on dvd. Here is their e-mail address: info@visualentertainment.tv :)

I seen the show when it aired. I was 15 when this show premiered. I don't know that I would care for it now, only for the fact that it is rare, would I want to have it. I was hoping for something great, but it was a letdown. It was "ok".

It's not a spin-off of What's Happening!! I would love to see this show, though. TV One did air it for a few days then they dropped it. I wonder if anyone recorded it? I still don't have that channel.

That's what I had heard but there were also posts that it was cancelled before TV One ever aired it, at the last minute. No one has posted that they saw it. I get TV One. So, if it aired, I would definitely tape it and offer you a complimentary copy, Pavan. ;) And you're right. Technically, it wasn't a spin-off because it was not the same character. It was Shirley's shot at having her own series. God, I wanna see this show! :D

Yes, it was a poorly-written show. Keene Curtis,
later the follicly-challenged John Allen Hill
character on CHEERS, was a co-star.
