They may be stupid movies to you but did you know the Wayans Family is the MOST SUCCESFUL PEOPLE IN HOLLYWOOD? They were so distinguished in Entertainment Weekly magazine and on Entertainment Tonight. They make over $100 billion...more than any other person/persons in Hollywood. They are the $$$$ making machine. They make, produce, direct, and so forth, their movies at a cost so low because it's their family behind the scenes and they pull in a whopping amount at the box office. Than, they make even more on DVD/VHS and if there is a soundtrack, more money, more money, more money. All the executives in Hollywood are following their moves very closely because of how the family makes a movie that costs $10 million and ends up raking in overall over $100 million by the time the movie is on DVD...so, call the stupid movies....BUT THOSE STUPID MOVIES MAKE BUCKS!

The Most Powerful Family in Hollywood
The Wayanses are the most powerful family in entertainment -- We tell you how the10 siblings have taken over Hollywood by Missy Schwartz

No, we're not insane. And yes, we mean those Wayanses. You know, the 10 brothers and sisters — and their many offspring — who brought you Homey the Clown and the Homeboy Shopping Network.

Consider the numbers. Over the past 20 years, Wayans sibs like Kim (Juwanna Mann) and Damon (ABC's My Wife and Kids) have written, directed, produced, and/or starred in more than 45 movies and television shows. In Living Color, the Emmy-winning 1990s sketch show that Keenen Ivory created, is one of BET's biggest syndication hits. And the family boasts a combined domestic box office of over a billion bucks — a hefty $331 million of which comes from the powerhouse trio at the forefront of the Wayans dynasty, Keenen, 48, and brothers Shawn, 35, and Marlon, 33.

''They have a real sense of what makes people laugh,'' says Joe Roth, whose Revolution Studios produced the trio's last two movies. ''They've figured out a way to do [comedy] while expanding their audience and keeping the costs below the norm. It's very smart.''

That's right, the goofy guys behind White Chicks and July 14's Little Man are extremely savvy businessmen. How do they do it? Raised in the New York City projects, the Wayans kids learned a strong work ethic from their parents, and had comedy as an outlet. (''We called my dad an entre-poor-neur,'' cracks Marlon.) So now, in this age of ballooning budgets, the low-overhead and all-in-the-family approach championed by Keenen, Shawn, and Marlon has turned out to be a golden goose for studios. Take White Chicks: Budgeted at $37 million, the cross-dressing comedy grossed $70 million and sold an estimated 4 million DVDs. Even the $50 million Little Man, in which the 6'2'' Marlon is digitally transformed into a 2'3'' jewel thief, is a bargain for a CGI flick. ''That's the beauty of comedy — it's not expensive,'' says Marlon. ''And with us, it's a package. You got your writers, stars, producers, and director. When you have [that] at a budget, you can make a movie.''

The brothers first proved how effective that formula can be with 2000's Scary Movie. Back then, they had been focusing on edgier flicks like 1996's Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood, and decided it was time to go for the mainstream. ''Keenen always taught us to [be] inclusive,'' Marlon explains. ''You want to hit every demographic.'' And that's exactly what their little horror spoof did. The R-rated comedy cost just $19 million...and took in a staggering $157 million. It remains the top grosser of the franchise.

Why, then, with such an impressive track record, don't the Wayanses get more recognition? Genre, for one. Comedies can be cash cows, but the brothers' broad humor hasn't exactly made them critical darlings. Then there's the matter of race. It's incredibly hard for a black filmmaker to be seen as truly mainstream, even with the numbers to back it up. In 2000, much was made of the fact that Scary Movie was the highest-grossing film ever directed by an African American. (It still holds that title.) But six years and many hits later, such distinctions seem meaningless. ''They made back-to-back smashes,'' says BET entertainment president Reginald Hudlin. ''That's a big deal for anyone.'' And with their worldwide grosses totaling more than half a billion dollars, Keenen, Shawn, and Marlon are one of the few U.S. comedy teams — black, white, whatever — whose humor translates overseas. (White Chicks' foreign b.o. actually beat Adam Sandler's The Longest Yard.)

So what's on deck after Little Man? Marlon recently starred in Damon's directorial debut, an indie called Behind the Smile that's currently without distribution. The trio is also toiling away on Thug a Boo, three animated specials for Nickelodeon, and a three-book series, the first of which, 101 Ways to Know You're Having a Ghetto Christmas, is due in stores fall 2007. ''We're beasts right now,'' says Marlon. ''The key is to keep it moving, keep it together.''

It seems likely they will. The more independent Damon is busy finishing an upcoming Showtime series, The Underground, but the youngest Wayans promises it won't be long before all four brothers — and maybe Kim and a few of those offspring too — collaborate again. ''We ain't gonna stop,'' Marlon says. ''We'll be jumping over hurdles and covering more ground. It's a beautiful thing.''

WAYANS VS. WAYANS

Who's the greatest of them all? A look at the sibs' onscreen box office clout.

TOTAL DOMESTIC BOX OFFICE GROSS IN MILLIONS OF DOLLARS

Damon 635.0

Keenen Ivory 257.9

Kim 76.1

Marlon 473.1

Shawn 330.5

Their success doesn't make their movies any better. "Citizen Kane" was a box office disaster, yet it's a classic. Of course, Hollywood cares more about money than about art. Not like. . . shh. . . wait for it. . . the French! :D

Considering the fact that the average persons movie I.Q. is at about 5, it doesn't surprise me that they're the most successful family in Hollywood. People always buy crap. Always have, always will, whether it's food, or entertainment. I did think the first Scary Movie was okay, but aside from that, I agree, most of their stuff is lame and childish. But hey, more power to them. If they can make billions by making that garbage, then I give them credit.

Obviously people pay to watch their movies. The fact that the Scary movies are money makers and beat out Adam Sandler's movie THE LONGEST YARD, means that people like the Wayans films. I can see if one movie made it big and then the rest were flops...but as for making money, the family is obviously giving the people "what they want".
As for me, the only movie of theirs that I really liked was I'M GONNA GIT YOU SUCKA...that one is pretty old.

I think it's mostly teens and young adults that go to see their movies, and since they're the biggest demographic, I guess it makes sense that their movies would be the biggest money makers. Iv'e never seen I'm Gonna Git You Sucka, but Iv'e heard of it. Doesn't that star Damon Wayans??

I'll give them credit for taking chances and trying to do something different. I mean, you have to admit, White Chicks, Scary Movie and Little Man are different. I'm not saying I have any interest in seeing them - but at least they're not making the same movie.

Yes it does star Damon Wayans and it has the Chris Rock...i think it was his debut in a movie. His small scene is worth watching the whole movie. It is not a "great" movie...but I enjoyed it for the laughs. It also starred Ja'Net Dubois (Willona from Good Times) and the girl that played Jaleesa from A Different World. It references "SHAFT" and the music of Isaac Hayes, who also stars in the movie.
I agree, their movies are not potential Oscar nominations or future classics, however, people love to laugh and get away from the "real world" and their movies offer these people that sort of getaway.

When that movie came out, it looksed as if Keenan Ivory Wayans would become a black Woody Allen - he was parodying a genre the way Woody parodied crime film in Take The Money And Run - but Keenan has yet to make an intelligent movie like a black Annie Hall or even an equivalent to Sleeper. What a shame. (What a lowdown dirty shame! ;) )

Spike Lee doesn't comment on movies like the Wayans's. He's too busy shaking his head in disgust. ohno:

Damon Wayans didn't marry his own adopted daughter...like Woody...SICK PERVERTED BASTARD. I won't watch another one of his movies...I don't support child molesters...same thing with Roman Polanski.

The movie rips off the plot of a Bugs Bunny cartoon, where a midget bank robber pretends to be a baby to get at his loot when it falls into Bugs's rabbit hole. The reason this idea was originally made into a cartoon short is beacuse it wasn't considered good enough to be a movie!

And????? how many original ideas are there in Hollywood???

Maybe when there are some original ideas and some good ass writers, we can see great quality movies. One reason I rarely go to the theatre. The last movie I seen was WALK THE LINE.

It's all a matter of choice, just because someone likes one thing and someone else doesn't, does not mean something is wrong with them. There's some movies of the Wayons I don't like and some I do, this new movie looks funny imo. I don't like any of Woody Allen's movies or Spike Lee, who seems to be very arrogant person.

That's why I mostly just watch Independant films and documentaries these days. Those seem to be the only consistantely originally films out there. Unfortunately, you can hardly ever find these types of films in theatres. :(

Yes, I love the IFC channel!!! It was actually one of the main reasons I decided to get digital cable in the first place. That, along with the Sundance film channel are two of the best stations ever!!!

I've never seen the appeal for White Chicks or Little Man. When I saw Conan Marlon Wayans was there and he was so unfunny and what he talked about was so bizarre.
