First of all, I know I probably shouldn't be creating another thread at this time considering what 2 or 3 people were saying about me in a couple other threads.....but I'm not gonna let them control what I do on a message board!
Besides, I'm not complaining about how I feel "worthless" or whatever in this thread.....I have a really important question!
Ok....so me and my friend have been getting a lot of weird calls from the past week. Someone keeps calling us, saying stupid stuff, saying really dirty jokes and we're dying to know who it is! And they call us like every 15 minutes, sometimes they even wake us up at 3 in the morning!! Now, I know, it's probably just one of our friends tricking us, but it's getting old now and I wanna know who it is! But when the person calls us, they push *67 which blocks the caller ID, so idk if there's a way we can track down the number to see who it is!
If there's a way, please tell me!
Thanks!

That sounds very annoying, Nikki. I hoep you manage to find out who it is. If it is one of your friends, you should probably tell them it's getting annoying.

Don't answer the phone unless the Caller ID shows who it is.
*69 doesn't work if they are using *67.

If you are wanting to know the exact info such as telephone number, address, etc. You are outta luck. You can call the phone company and let them know you are being harassed, however, only the phone company maintains that info for themselves and the police (if police are necessary)...you are not given that info...that is private. I worked for a year at Verizon several years ago and people wanted to know who was harassing them. Sorry to say, you can't find out unless you get *69 and can call them back, but that doesn't give you the info you are wanting. If you can get Call Block, then you can simply block them as they call you.

I believe a call trace will still work even with *67. I also think call trace costs more money, look in your phone book!

still it won't give the info the poster wants. Call trace works in conjunction with the phone company. Only the phone company will keep the info, they will not (and are not allowed) to give it to anyone but police officials. So, why waste the $$$ to have a service that won't give you the info you want. Basically, it's best to get Call Block (if available) and just block the calls as they come in. Eventually they will get tired of going from phone to phone to try and harass you. Also, not just anyone can call the phone company and ask for a service...only the person authorized on the account can make changes such as adding or deleting call services. I am not sure, but is the poster a teen?

Niki, does their number show up on your Caller ID? If so, you can try a free online "reverse phone number" lookup. Those can come in handy.

The people BLOCK their number from appearing on the caller ID. I have caller ID, I have anonymous call block, this means, anyone who tries to call me and tries to block their phone number from my caller ID, will automatically be told they need to release their phone number so I can see it or their call won't go thru (be accepted)...
See if you can get ANONYMOUS CALL BLOCK on your phone or ANONYMOUS CALL REJECT. This works in conjunction with your caller ID service (if available in your area)...then! anyone who wants to call your house will have to RELEASE AND SHOW THEIR PHONE NUMBER...if they don't want to release their number so you can see it, their call won't go thru and VOILA! they won't call you. Still, if they want to harass you this won't stop them from going to a pay phone or using a phone that may show up on a caller ID as "unknown caller".

Oh, okay. So the call was done anonymously. I skipped over that part. Darn.

Sorry to bump, but I was wondering if there was a way the police could track down a restricted/private number--even if it's a cell phone number?? My friend (the one I was talking about) said her cousin's a police officer and he thinks he can track down the number.

Police are capable to do that. Whether it is thru the police department or working with the local phone company...they do this when they need to find out info for crimes that have been committed. How the police do it, i don't know...I know how the phone company does it. He might go thru the phone company to do so...but I don't know.

Yep. If it's a cell phone, law enforcement goes thru the company (T-Mobile, whatever it is) however, i don't know how they do it if the number is restricted. I think the police go thru the phone company and check YOUR HOME PHONE and see what calls are made to YOUR HOME number...the phone company is able to know the number of the person who called...not a regular billing person or someone like that, this is done in a certain dept. that keeps things like that private. This is the same dept. that has the info for CALL TRACE. When the phone company provides the police dept. of the cell phone number that called a home, the police then find out what phone company that cell phone number belongs to and they go to THAT company and get phone records. However, all of this is done with a subpoena, the cell phone company doesn't just give info out to any law enforcement official.

Thanks! I hope my friend's cousin can find the person's phone number even though it's a private number!
