View Full Version : TV Land September predictions
What do you think the TV Land lineup will look like come September? Remember they probably won't renew TDVDS and Jeffersons are coming. The Link says Jeffersons are scheduled to air at 11:00AM and 10:30PM, but that is tentative.

Jeffersons was slated at 11am and 10:30pm well before the latest changes. So, those slots are not going to happen now most likely, especially 11am. Mini-marathons are doing well enough to stay in Sept.

"Benson" is missing from your schedule - do you think it will go on hiatus?
And I'm sure "The Jeffersons" will be included somewhere in the mini-marathons (like you had)
I wouldn't be surprised to see "What's Happening" return even in a limited slot, and I think "Good Times" will move to 10pm if "Jeffersons" does go to 10:30

Nope!! I like Cheer & Night Court weeknight primetime. It doesnt matter to me what evening time slot will be. We will see what happen every other two week in the fall. I rather watch I network or TBS network as my evening primetime but not tvland.

I really don't know - I'm thinking, of all the shows with marathons, they would probably give the lowest rated one to The Jeffersons. And more than likely, Benson would be the best choice. I don't really see any place they could put it, but I might be wrong.
What's Happening was barely on? It had a very good run, given the quality of the show and the limited number of episodes. Cheers dominated N@N and TV Land long enough, it was time that it moved to weekends only.
I think Sanford and Son does better than Good Times given the amount of exposure and airplays. Thank goodness they've finally cut GT down to 1x per day and given other shows (Green Acres and Munsters) some well-deserved exposure.

Don't bet on What's Happening coming back on;it seems to me that black shows that comes on this network get's the short end of the stick(unless it's the beloved Crosby Show)Only Good Times seems to have suceeded.I'm willing to bet that if they did Cheers like that or All In The Family, everyone would have a hissy-fit!I'm also willing to bet that The Jefferson won't have much of a run.If my statements not true, then why was Benson only going to be shown on the marathons, and not weekdays?!Explain What's Happening going off the air and it barely was on?!?Everyone will claim that it was due to ratings, but how can that be factor when these shows were on less than 6 months? If that long!
They showed each What's Happening!! episode like 4 or 5 times. I wish they add What's Happening Now!! to the rotation. I'm sure the show will be back soon.
The Jeffersons will be big for TV Land. Good Times is not the only African American show that does well...Sanford & Son does very well, too. What's Happening!! was doing well as well. The 11am-2pm show removals were NOT because of ratings. They had planned to encore the mini marathons even before 227 started. 227 did decent, but it was quite unfortunate it was in that time block. Hopefully when The Jeffersons come, they can pair the two up together in early evening. Something like: 5-7pm: Sanford & Son, AITF, Jeffersons, 227. And then Beaver and Andy at 7-8.
Another complaint by you. I remember before you were complaining about WH!! even airing, and now you're complaining it is gone. Cheers is on once a week now, too. I don't see anyone complaining.
Pav, are the ratings for LITB good enough that perhaps it could make a return to 9:30? Thanks.
I think it's due time Sanford and Son was, well, how would you say it...put out to pasture? That show has recieved so much airplay it's getting really old. I think Jeffersons/227 at 5-6pm would be good and keep Acres/Munsters at 6-7, because those shows have had a long break from decent slots unlike S&S/AITF. Just my opinion though.

They really need to stop tripping and bring back Mary Tyler Moore.

I'm not sure, but I know Sanford & Son has done very well there, so I wouldn't count on Beaver moving there.
Munsters/Green Acres do better 5-6am and 8-9am than 6-7pm.
I think by September, 9p-12a will look like this: 9p TAGS, 9:30 S&S, 10p Good Times, 10:30 Jeffersons, 11p-12a TC. And maybe 5-7p will change a bit, too, something similar to what I said before.

Don't forget to add that S&S is also complete on DVD which is another reason for the show to go

I think you need to go to Best Buy and say-"Point me in the direction of the TV shows from 1950-1969"
lol
You know- not many of the shows TV Land has acquired in the past few years have turned out to be 'long term' successes. As PB has mentioned, some scored record ratings and all at first, e.g. Night Court, but have turned out to do badly. Examples-
What's Happening!! - I don't think it was a ratings smash, but it apparently did well enough to air in primetime for 6 months, moved to mid-days now off completely
Hunter - According to TheLink, the ratings were so low it was best to just remove it, 'fighting an uphill battle for airplay, muchless contract renewal', as he said
Highway to Heaven - again, TL said the ratings were declining when it aired daily and it was best for 'limited airing'
Benson - ratings were alright at the start, but declined after 11:30pm move, leaving the daily lineup Wednesday
227 - low ratings due to bad timeframe, moved to weekends within a week
Simon and Simon/Knight Rider - low ratings, best option was to remove them
Miami Vice - an initial ratings success, but apparently didn't do much, so it was decided to remove it
Night Court - An initial ratings success, but unsatisfactory ratings led to the show gradually being 'played down'
Wings (moved from N@N) - must have NEVER done well in the ratings, this show has to have the record of being moved around and pulled from/re-added to the lineup!
Carol Burnett Show - Was moved to weekends within a few months, must have done poorly from the start
Flip Wilson - Same as above
The Addams Family - same as above
Overall, the only shows that have turned out to be 'long-term' successes that have been acquired over the past two years have been Green Acres, Good Times, and Little House on the Prairie. This is going by what I've heard around, so I have no idea if it's correct or not.

Miami Vice did bad because of airing at 2am, Carol Burnet and Flip Wilson aired at 8am and 9am, bad timeslot. Night Court is just not a good show. Benson needs the 9:30pm o 10pm slot.

227 didn't have low ratings. It was on par with the rest of the afternoon sitcoms, which did decent. Like I said before, the mini-marathons were scheduled to encore well before 227 started. They just didn't know the time to air the encores.
What's Happening!! did very well for them at 11 p.m. Both 48 hour marathons were high, too. They moved the show to 12 noon to try and develop an afternoon sitcom block.

Dont care for tvland & N&N anymore. Except Night Court hopefully return to daily primetime.Hopefully that I network will work out or other cable network will pick the show up near future.

Which is why TV Land's schedule changes don't make sense. I get dropping What's Happening!! because there is only so many times you can see the same episode, although The Munsters has been run forever and only has 65 or so episodes.
And as for 227, why debut it in that afternoon block with TVL knowing they'd be dumping it a week later? That makes ZERO sense. What is with TV Land lately?

And to go with the question above - Pav, you said TV Land knew they wanted to encore the mini-marathons. How long before WE find out what the schedule changes are does TV Land make a decision like that? Because it seems to me like they are sudden decisions a lot (like the recent spurt of "Three's Company")

Well, the decisons are made way before (usually). The announcement of the schedules are usually right away.
You know, it's weird - seems to me they would be moving the 50s/60s shows to the weekends instead of 80s. Seems that the older 50s-mid 70s shows seem to, oh what's the word...keep going? Look at The Munsters, Leave it to Beaver, Andy Griffith, Gunsmoke, etc - been on for 5+ years and still do well and hold their own. I'm still shocked they decided to renew Green Acres instead of Dick Van Dyke. Hopefully they'll renew The Munsters too.
Pavan
07-11-2006, 01:21 PM
The Munsters is a 50/50 chance. They are airing 3 new episodes a day to burn the rest of the airplays on the contract. That might not be a good sign of renewal, but stranger things have happened.
Well, they renewed Green Acres, and considering it and TM air around the same time daily and are 'partners', I wouldn't be surprised if they renew. Time will tell. One show I don't expect for them to renew is Happy Days, it must not do too well considering it's never had a marathon and doesn't have a second airing (like Lucy, Munsters, Acres, Dick Van Dyke, etc). I don't really care since it's on WGN..

Munster should go I hope that doesnt get renewal. Because it overplayed only has 3 season. It not closed captioned either too bad.
And for Happy Days- not closed captioned ever since tvland N&N aired that I cant even watch. It is a good show but I cant watch it w/out cc.
Green Acres is not closed captioned either just DVD it is.
I'm surprised they didn't put the shows that were scrapped from 12pm-2pm from 4-6am. Those are basically repeats of shows that air at other times...however I'm glad they didn't, becuase I like the shows that are currently airing in that time frame.
