ION MEDIA NETWORKS AND SONY PICTURES TELEVISION ANNOUNCE PROGRAMMING AGREEMENT FOR TV SERIES AND FEATURE FILMS
(West Palm Beach, FL and Culver City, CA – July 5, 2006) – ION Media Networks, Inc. (AMEX: ION) and Sony Pictures Television (“SPT”) today announced a programming agreement that provides ION with the rights to broadcast dozens of classic television series and a large selection of award-winning feature films from the Sony library on the i television network, reaching over 90 million homes.
“This agreement reflects our strategy of strengthening our i network’s programming schedule with popular series and theatrical hits with proven audience appeal,” said Brandon Burgess, CEO of ION Media Networks. “We look forward to working with Sony on developing a compelling entertainment line-up that continues to appeal to our current audience, while attracting new viewers to the network.”
“The i network and its stations will benefit from a wide variety of titles from our extensive library of television series and feature films, which have proven to deliver audiences,” said John Weiser, president, distribution for Sony Pictures Television. “We are pleased to be in partnership with ION, helping them grow and making them a destination for great programming.”
Under the terms of the agreement, ION will have access to many of SPT’s most popular TV series from the last three decades, including “Charlie’s Angels,” “Starsky & Hutch,” “The Partridge Family,” “The Monkees” and “Silver Spoons,” among others.
In addition, titles from Sony’s extensive library of theatrical films will be available to ION, including “A River Runs Through It,” “Oliver!,” “Bram Stoker’s Dracula,” “Short Circuit” and many more.
“We are pleased to have access to Sony’s diverse collection of movies and classic TV shows” said Stacey Nagel Galper, ION’s Senior Vice President of Programming and Strategic Planning. “We will begin scheduling the Sony movies on the i network this month, with plans to launch the television series in August.”

I guess this is good although Im only interested in silver spoons... this does mean more shows will get a chance though right?
How in the blue hell do they plan to work in BOTH libraries in the 5 hour window without basically leaving the majority of their new purchases gathering dust. They really need to add time onto their upcoming schedule, even if it's just a couple hours to start. And I'm not saying that from a fan's perspective, I'm saying that from the business end. i's finances haven't been that great, and I doubt Warner and Sony just handed them them a few dozen shows and moves each for free...There's no reason to spend money on something you don't air.

That's just one of the shows mentioned. According to the article, dozens were acquired. I think it'd certainly be interesting to see a full list.

Eventually they will get rid of paid programming, I'm sure, but right now I think they are obligated to air them. These deals just happened and while they can easily replace actual shows with these shows, replacing paid programming might take a while longer due to financial obligations.

I had an almost complete list of Sony TV product, but I can't find it. Here is a partial list of what Sony owns:
Columbia Tri-Star owned shows (not complete of course):
227, Action, All in the Family, Archie Bunker's Place, Barney Miller, Battle Dome, Benson, Bette, Bewitched, Bridget Loves Bernie, Burns & Allen, Charlie's Angels, Checking In, Crazy Like a Fox, Dawson's Creek, Dennis the Menace, Designing Women, Diff'rent Strokes, Dilbert, Donny & Marie, Early Edition, Emily's Reasons Why Not, Facts of Life, Falcone, Family, Family Law, Fantasy Island, Father Knows Best, Fernwood 2Night, Fish, Flying Nun, Forever Knight, Gidget, Good Times, Grosse Pointe, Grady, Grown Ups, Guardian, Hart to Hart, Hazel, I Dream Of Jeannie, Imagine That, Jeffersons, Joan of Arcadia, Just Shoot Me, King of Queens, Ladies Man, Larry Sanders Show, Mad About You, Malcolm & Eddie, Married With Children, Mary Hartman, Maude, Men are From Mars, Mike Hammer, Monkees, My Big Fat Greek Life, Nanny, New Gidget, New Monkees, Newsradio, Oh Baby, One Day at a Time, One in a Million, Parker Lewis, Partridge Family, Party of Five, Pasadena, Police Story, Police Woman, Punky Brewster, Route 66, Rude Awakening, SWAT, Sanford, Sanford Arms, Sanford & Son, Secret Agent Man, Seinfeld, Shasta, Silk Stalkings, Silver Spoons, Soap, Square Pegs, Starsky & Hutch, Street, Street Justice, Tabitha, Top of the Heap, TJ Hooker, That's My Mama!, The Rookies, Time of Your Life, Twice in a Lifetime, Weber Show, What About Joan, What's Happening, What's Happening Now, Who's The Boss, Young Americans
Remember if it is on a local channel, i network probably won't have access to it. Benson, What's Happening, What's Happening Now, 227 and Who's the Boss? probably will not be a part of i's deal, because Sony licensed those shows to The Program Exchange.

What abouts shows like,'It's A Miracle'? I wonder will 'I' keep it on schudule(even though now it's only on once a week(Saturdays) as oppose to 'every night' that it was on. Also, what about 'The Waltons'? It wouldn't be such a bad idea for 'I' to start airing that show in syndication on their channel. They have way more than enough of episodes to air(they went for nine seasons I believe).
After getting some horrible, horrible news today, I really needed this. Looks like PAX is dedicated to doing this. The second I saw Charlie's Angels, I was sold on the idea. Alice and Charlie's Angels on the same channel? I am SO in!

It'll take a "miracle" for that crap to remain on their schedule. Seriously, they have rerun that, Doc and Sue F.B.eye to the ground. Sony/Warner shows will take over these shows.
The Waltons has a chance to make it, since it is Warner owned, but I don't think we'll see it. If not, you can still see it on Hallmark Channel anyway.

4 of the 5 Sony shows that are "official" for i only air on ME-TV in Chicago (Silver Spoons is not on any local). Well, Charlie's Angels airs on HDnet, too, but that is not broadcast anyway. So, if a show is just on ME-TV or no locals at all, then it has a good chance of making it on i. I think Facts of Life and Diff'rent Strokes have a good chance to make the i line-up, both only air on ME-TV in Chicago, no where else.

Those shows only air on your local Pax (Ion Media) affliate and not on the national feed which air informercials in those slots, it is likely they would continue to air as long as infomercials are airing on the national feed, but as soon as Ion Media pulls the informercials (several months away) from the national feed those public domain episodes you mentioned will likely vanish.
If those do disappear, you can usually buy those public domain episodes on DVD for very cheap.

I really wished that some network would put on Here come the brides, The Patty Duke show.
I have a question. Let's say Nick@Nite tried to acquire Silver Spoons for example. Would they still be able to? Or would they not have access to it because it's already on i? And if they were able to get it, would that mean i has to stop showing?

Studios and distributors have different arms regarding syndication properties, meaning shows are licensed for locals, national networks & cable networks, many factors come into play including daypart........but to directly answer your question, there would be no conflict and there is nothing stopping Nick At Nite (Viacom) from pursuing "Silver Spoons" except they probably have no interest. "I" is a broadcast network with a line-up of owned stations accross the U.S., most can be found on the UHF dial with cable operators required to carry them under the "must carry retransmission consent laws", Nick At Nite of course is a cable channel, so they would each deal with different licensing divisions from the studios.

Pavan, now that i is going to air television series/films from the Sony library, have you heard anything on "Early Edition"? Their contract expired, and it’s currently not being aired (or anywhere for that matter). It was a popular series on Pax (with "Diagnosis: Murder" which they brought back "due to popular demand", though it's not own by Sony). Kyle Chandler will also be in the news series "Friday Night Lights", so it's a perfect time to bring it back if they can (or choose to). Despite the fact that "Early Edition" is a very popular series, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment continues to ignore this series or even license it to another company for DVD, even though there's a huge demand for it.

Slightly OT here, but do any of these networks actually think anyone sits and watches hours of infomercials? Every time I see an infomercial I hit the remote and see what is on somewhere else.
All they are are "get rich quick", "lose weight", "kitchen gadgets", and "cleaning things". They must think everyone in the US is poor, fat, without kitchen appliances and lives in a dirty house.

AMERICA’S LAUGH-OUT-LOUD CLASSICS, “MAMA’S FAMILY” AND “GREEN ACRES,” DEBUT ON i IN AUGUST
The Network Treats Viewers to Two Saturday Marathons This Month
(West Palm Beach, FL – August 9, 2006) – The laughs are on i with the network’s summer debut of two classic TV hits, “Mama’s Family” and “Green Acres,” launching this month with a three-hour marathon of “Mama’s Family” on Saturday, August 12th at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
Starting, Monday, August 14th, the i network will begin airing back-to-back episodes of “Mama’s Family” every Monday to Thursday at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT. “Mama’s Family” stars Vicki Lawrence as the outspoken gray-haired matriarch of a Southern, eternally squabbling family living under one roof. The show debuted in 1983 as a spin-off of the popular skit "The Family” from “The Carol Burnett Show.”
Also launching on Monday, August 14th, “Green Acres” will air every Monday to Friday at 7:00 p.m. ET/PT. The i network will treat viewers to a special “Green Acres” marathon on Saturday, August 26th from 8:00 – 11:00 p.m. ET/PT. The series, which debuted in 1965 as a spin-off to “Petticoat Junction,” stars Eddie Albert and Eva Gabor as a high-rolling New York City couple who decides to get closer to nature by taking up residence on a 160-acre rundown farm in Hooterville, U.S.A.
The i network is available in more than 90 million homes via local broadcast stations, cable and satellite. For more information, visit www.ionline.tv.

That sucks. and i can't believe they are replacing Growing Pains i am looking forward to seeing that, i haven't seen that in years.

I am also enjoying The Monkees The Partridge Family Green Accress Mama's Family I also feel like I am in Heaven with all Theses Great Show
Okay...was "Charlie's Angels" slightly off-center for anyone other than me? It was quite obvious during the opening credits that the screen was like...I don't know, shifted towards the right. Part of the S in "FAWCETT-MAJORS" was cut off and you could see it in the opening shot of the Police Academy banner...

...the "framing" of the episode was slightly off, 'jt'. The picture should have been "pulled back" a bit when "transferred" from film to storage on tape/digital retreival system, for the "i" rebroadcast. I'd say the same episode was properly transferred (or WILL be) when it's released on DVD box sets.
