View Full Version : What's really in chinese food?

I am not a big chinese food eater, I have to be in the mood for it. When I eat it, I usually get sesame chciken, ribs(what kind?), and fried rice. A while back, I saw a bio on the Discovery Channel about how they boil cats, and serve them in chinese restaurants. There would be a boiling pot of hot water, and they would have these dead cats lined up next to the pots. They would take these poles, pick up the dead cat, and put it in the water. I had my suspiscions anyway. I'm not discouraging anyone from eating it, I'm just posting what I saw. I kind of figured the ribs were from another animal, because the ribs are way too lean. Pork ribs aren't that lean, and I know how pork smells, and that is not pork. Lord knows what else is being served in chinese restaurants. But, I will say the ribs are good.

Chinese food....hmmmm, I always figured CHINESE would be in it...

really? the discovery channel? what show was this one? I love this channel, I must have missed it. I know they always have some weird food documentary on some of the channels...like the one where people eat small octopus ALIVE...but they have to be real careful or die from choking when the tentacles hold on to the side of your throat.

This show was on a few months ago. I happened to catch it by accident. I wish I could tell you the name of the show. I thought about it the other day, when I had some chinese food for lunch.

Believe it or not, Irene, I like canned octopus. Up here, you can get it out of the convience store. It tastes good with crackers.

Canned octopus and LIVE OCTOPUS are waaaaay different. Seeing the people twirl the octopus like it was spaghetti on a chopstick and seeing the octopus trying to move and squirm around as the patrons dipped them in some red hot sauce and attempting to chew on them...it was very difficult for them to chew when it was squirming around and trying everything to avoid being eaten...:barf:

It's probably just part of the culture. In Vietnam they eat dogs. I know that because I've been there.

I'm not sure if this is rumor or not, but I've heard that in China that cannibalism is becomming common, due to forced population control. And the bad thing about it is that the people there don't even know that they're eating their own baby children at the restaurants.puke:

I hope it's just rumor in that country.

And regarding serving cats and dogs in chinese restaurants, they don't do it here in the US, especially in the big fancy chinese restaurants/buffets, do they?

According to Snopes it is false. However, by the time I had researched and found that to be false, I had seen another link that showed pics of a man eating a roasted fetus. I was shocked. Snopes said it is an "artist" who put a doll's head on the body of a duck and roasted it that way to give the appearance of eating a fetus. DISGUSTING!!!!!!

Cat, dog, chicken, beef, what's the difference? An animal is an animal and it dies one way or another. Just because a dog happens to look cute doesn't mean it doesn't deserve to die. People eat other animals like fish, squid, buffalo, deer, duck, goose pig, etc., and no one thinks it disgusting. I don't know what goes into a lot of Chinese cuisine, but who are we to judge when we eat things like pigs. Pipgs can be cute looking, too.

Weird Al knows!

Sung to the tune Cat's In The Cradle by Harry Chapin

DId you ever think when you eat chinese
It ain't pork or chicken but a fat siamese?
Yet the food tastes great so you don't complain
But that's not chicken in your chicken chow mein
Seems to me I ordered sweet and sour pork
But Garfield's on my fork
He's purrin' here on my fork

There's a cat in the kettle at the Peking Moon
The place that I eat every day at noon
They can feed you cat and you'll never know
Once they wrap it up in dough boys
They fry it real crisp in dough.

Chow Lin asked if I wanted more
As he was diallin' up his buddy at the old pet store
I said "Not today, I lost my appetite"
There's two cats in my belly and they want to fight.

I was suckin on a roll-aid and a tums or two
When I swear I heard it mew boy
And that is when I knew

There's a cat in the kettle at the Peking Moon
I think I gotta stop eating there at noon
They say that it's beef or fish or pork
But it's purrin there on my fork
There's a hairball on my fork

All I know is that whatever the chicken is, it's full of fat and gristle and whatever, and it's disgusting. I've only been to one Chinese restaurant where they used nothing but chicken breast.

I don't believe it, however I do know a case of a chinese restaurant in the next town over, got shut down after they found dead cats in their freezer so I guess it does happen.

I am getting *beep*ing tired of the whole "cat in the Chinese food" garbage. Any restaurant that tried such a thing in this country, where cats (and dogs and whatever else your little minds could think of to fit) are considered bona fide parts of people's families...would either get shut down faster than you can say kitty litter, or otherwise get sued so badly they wouldn't be able to afford bloody Meow Mix.
