I love this movie. I hadn't seen it uncut since it first came out in 1985. Well, back then, they had Bob Seeger music throughout the movie. I understand that they had wanted to use Bruce Springsteen music instead because Rocky Dennis (the person portrayed in the movie) was a big Bruce fan. However there was some issue as to Bruce not allowing his music to be used for whatever reason.
Also, I had seen some scenes in the movie that I don't recall ever seeing before. It seems like they added in previously unshown scenes. There were two significant scenes that I was really shocked to see because they answer some questions that I previously had.
The movie was shown last night on TCM, Turner Classics Movie channel, they show uncut movies on this channel. No commercials.
Anyone know if this is a new updated version of this movie? Or is this the movie that was to have been originally shown when it was released?

There is no explination as to why the TV stations do what they do, sometimes they cut a movie up so bad that its not worth watching anymore take spike tv and scarface and also spikes cut up version of the good the bad and the ugly, in that movie they cut out a 20 minute scene that made the movie worth watching, and sometimes tv stations will put back in scenes that were edited out of the movie version, when superman the movie first aired on ABC there were scenes put back in the movie that were not seen in the theatres, and now on the dvd version of superman there is a whole new scene not shown in the theatres or tv before, but with DVDs now and the appetite of the public to see scenes never seen before I think that maby tv stations are trying to keep up with the dvd idea and hopes of getting more viewers, and TCM is great because you get uncut movies they way they were seen in the theatres and TCM doesnt even edit out the cussing.

I don't know about the extra scenes, but I do believe there is a newer version of the film where Bruce's music is used instead of Bob's. Bruce actually wanted his music used for the film, but I believe whoever had the rights to it wasn't able to come up with an agreement.

According to the IMDB, the "director's cut" is the version which features the Springsteen music. Whether this version of the film has any scenes that were added or deleted, the IMDB didn't say. Usually they will list any changes that are made in different versions of the film.
