#006 – From Movies to TV
Two stars that carved their starts in theatrical films and later shone bright on television were Mr. T and Cybill Shepherd. Mr. T was the grueling boxing nemesis of Rocky Balboa in "Rocky 3," while Cybill was a model-turned-starlet in "The Last Picture Show". These roles ultimately led to "The A-Team" and "Moonlighting," respectively.

I'm excited about that marathon also. I think it also be a good idea if they ran a 227 marathon the week after since Marla Gibbs starred on both shows.

Who the hell are these pretend-Eastern-Europeans (the guy and the girl) who make the commercials promoting these movies? You know, with the idiots in the background 'dancing' to some disco crap?

Are we supposed to be impressed with that 'marketing'?

It's barely even on N@N as-is. TV Land is a much better fit for the show, compared to the FP/Roseanne-dominated N@N, where you have to be a show on the level of Cosby to even have breathing room

WOW

I didn't see all that coming AT ALL. Murphy Brown must be doing well to earn a 10pm timeslot every night - I think that's VERY surprising. I'm sad to see I Love Lucy, Brady Bunch, Happy Days and Dick Van Dyke getting shafted to late night or 1 airing a week. I'm also surprised to see Addams Family getting a marathon

Does this mean that some of the shows that were supposed to be back to regular airings (Cheers, 227, Night Court, etc) in September will not be doing so?

Solomon is right on. I know I'll be watching The Jeffersons as much as possible. I still only have S1 on DVD ... lol. I have all of Sanford & Son though.

But some HUGE changes, Pav, you weren't kidding! And he told me Murphy Brown IS doing well for TVL, so I guess it does well enough to warrant a 10PM slot! Wow. I'm thrilled about that. And for the first time in six years, Andy Griffith is no longer in primetime. Kinda weird Cosby Show will air on TVL, but I'm not too surprised. At least (from what I can see) it's only once a day so that's not bad.

The changes are all pretty good imo...I think Murphy will get a better shot over there and TCS has been way to overplayed on N@N so it gets to start over on TVLand and with only one airing, I can't wait till all these mini marathons are gone cause TVLand now has a steller lineup of Sitcoms...

I am thinking the sitcom going to N@N will proballt be one of these 5 (Cheers, Wings, Night Court, Benson, or 227) seeing as those are the closet that fit in...

I wonder if TV Land is afraid that some of their viewers will be turning the channel to i in the coming months with there addition of classic shows. This schedule takes effect the same day that Mama's Family's marathon airs on i.

Anyway...

Like I said before, I love most of these changes. I am not home in the daytime, so none of that bothers me. I do like the fact that The Jeffersons is on from 7-8PM, because that is currently my only hour with nothing to watch on TV.

What I would like is sitcoms on weekend afternoons. I know that Bonanza and Gunsmoke do very well on TVL, but it would be nice to have some variety on weekends, since Bonanza & Gunsmoke have been on at those times for a very long time now.

There is just such an overwhelming amount of good stuff on (or coming) to TV, isn't there!

I know it will never happen but I wish the schedule would look like this come the time Mini Marathons end...

7:00 Mini Marathon Block
9:00 The Brady Bunch
9:30 Happy Days
10:00 I Love Lucy

I will give Murphy a chance now that it's on at 10pm

I Love Lucy is better suited for Sunday Afternoon. Defintely not primetime

These changes are a joke! I think this is maybe the worst schedule change they have ever made. Way too many marathons.

The only good things about this schedule are:
1. The "Benson" midday marathon on Tuesdays.
2. The early launch of "The Jeffersons".

I was really enjoying the schedule from 9am to 11am in the mornings (I like 8am to 9am too but usually I am not awake then).

I hate that "The Brady Bunch" and "Happy Days" will be added alongside so many other shows that have become weekends only.

I was okay with "Murphy Brown" being on TV Land once a week for a marathon, but daily in primetime? It will never last...there is no way it will do what shows that are currently not in the primetime line up (TAGS, LITB, S&S, AITF, and Cheers) did.

"The Cosby Show" on TV Land: I knew it would come one day. N@N is getting too overpopulated by select 90s shows and it is starting to get edged out of primetime (much like "Three's Company" did). While TV Land shows some 80s shows, I think this one goes along better with the likes of "Full House" I think it is awful it is replacing TAGS.

As far as "The Dick Van Dyke Show" is concerned...I think that whenever we hear that a show is expiring and will not be renewed we should expect to say goodbye about a month before the contract expires. They seem to commonly cut back on airings or cut them out all together. Which makes sense but is unfortunate for fans that want to watch them before they go.

I hope TV Land sticks with the originally planned September line up and will not continue with much of this. I know it will turn into N@N one day but not now. As for N@N, I stopped watching that a few years ago when "Three's Company" and "Cheers" left. I like 90s shows, just not the ones that they show.

I totally agree with b&tcfan. These changes are HORRID. Definately the worse moves TV Land has EVER made. I don't see this going over well at all...hopefully we'll see primetime mainstays like TAGS, LITB, AITF, and S&S return soon.

Whoa, Murphy Brown in prime time?! And people say there is no God! hehe. Yes! I don't like "Wings'" new timeslot, though. Is it still going to be gone in Sept, or what?

Wow, this new schedule is pretty good. I have always liked Murphy Brown.

Pav, did MB's ratings imporve at NAN? How did it end up at 10 pm 7 days a week?

I admit, I'm ecstatic that TV Land has finally edged Andy Griffith out of PT. That show has been done to death, back again, and then back to death, in it's tenure on TV Land (not to mention it still airs 2-3 times a night here in syndication, which only hastened my dislike of the show).

I hope that other network or local will take over Night Court week night!!! So tvland is OUT!!!!

That is probably the biggest surprise of the schedule. I didn't see that coming. Sure, it did decent on Saturday nights on TV Land, but wow... Wonder if it will work? Jeffersons and Three's Company as lead-in and lead-out will help for sure.

Here's a rundown of how many times each show airs a week (counting just the 7 airplays in the 12-4AM time instead of 8)

28 times a week
The Jeffersons
Three's Company

27 times a week
Good Times

24 times a week
The Andy Griffith Show
Bonanza
Gunsmoke

14 times a week
Murphy Brown

11 times a week
Benson
Sanford and Son

9 times a week
Leave it to Beaver

8 times a week
I Love Lucy

7 times a week
Cosby Show
Little House on the Prairie

5 times a week
A-Team/Daniel Boone
Green Acres

4 times a week
The Addams Family
All in the Family
The Munsters

2 times a week
The Flip Wilson Show

1 time a week
227
The Brady Bunch
Cheers
The Dick Van Dyke Show
Happy Days
Highway to Heaven
MacGyver
Night Court
Wings

------

I think it's sad to see the number of 1x a week airings when 6 shows are getting 24+ airings a week (including Bonanza and Gunsmoke, whose airings equal 2 full days of the week). I know it's all about ratings but I miss the days when TV Land would attempt to satisfy ratings and variety within their shows

I think it would be hard to get tired of the Jeffersons since it was 11 seasons.

benjamoon, not sure if you counted Three's Company at 11:30 on Mondays. They just will air TC Mondays from 10:30p-5a and pre-empt Good Times at 11:30pm.

Plus Cosby Show, TC and Jeffersons will also air on N@N.

Oooh I didn't count that - thanks, I'll edit my post

And I think having TC and Jeffersons just makes it even worse. I actually like those 2 shows more than say All in the Family, Good Times, or Sanford and Son but they don't need to be airing 28 times a week on TVL and then another marathon on N@N (especially when it takes over for Mad About You and Newsradio :( :()

That's because they have extra 30 minutes of commercials in the 12-4am marathons--only 7 airings of a show rather than 8.

Not to continue my complaints but I think it's awful to have shows 1X a week and then pre-empt them. If this schedule continues through September, they'll be pre-emtped for the Daniel Boone, Jeffersons, and Three's Company + spinoffs marathons

Also - if my calculations are correct - the final 2 Dick Van Dyke episodes will air on August 13 and August 20. What a sad way for a show to end that had such a long run on N@N and TVL. Shame on TVL for not acknowledging it AT ALL

These changes will be in effect through end of September at least. Except 10am Sundays in Sept is TBD, since Dick Van Dyke is expiring after August.

Wouldn't worry about it too much... TV Land can't seem to make up their minds what they want to do. In a couple of months (maybe sooner), the schdule will probably be different.

We don't really watch TV Land any more... it really hasn't been that great for the past several years...at least in Prime Time and late night...

I kind of wish TV Land would put on some older shows that AREN'T out on DVD... I know there are some networks out there that put on older shows (esp from the 60s) that aren't available on DVD yet, but we only get TV Land and Nick at Nite on Comcast in our area.

But we find ourselves enjoying our DVDs more and more in the evenings (at least on those evenings when we don't bury our noses in a good book!)

TVLand's new August schedule looks bad. This is the worst schedule I have ever seen. The only good thing about TVLand's new August schedule is "The Jeffersons" airing 7 nights a week. The rest is terrible. A VERY unwatchable schedule. Why is "The Cosby Show" and "Murphy Brown" on TVLand? They both belong on Nick At Nite, NOT TVLand. It was wrong that TVLand removed "Sanford And Son" from their primetime schedule. It was also wrong that TVLand removed "Benson" from their primetime schedule after one month. "Benson" was doing great in the ratings on TVLand. TVLand really has to stop changing their schedule like almost every week. Its ridiculous and uncalled for. I wish TVLand would bring back "Mister Ed", "The Beverly Hillbillies", "Bewitched", and "Carol Burnett And Friends". These four shows should be back on the TVLand schedule, NOT "The Cosby Show" and "Murphy Brown".

TV Land Top 10 Cops marathon has now been canceled. The regular schedule will return on this date (Aug. 23), but of course the Top 10 Cops special will still premiere at 10pm. There just won't be a supporting stunt. NOT airing anymore will be be:
"For even more fun with the law, we’re following this new original episode with classic cop shows. The marathon will feature Sheriff Andy Taylor and Deputy Barney Fife, and Bailiff Bull Shannon from Night Court!
Followed by:
10:30pm Andy Griffith #057 – Andy and Barney in the Big City
Andy and Barney are involved in the catching of a jewel thief
11:00pm Andy Griffith #95 – The Big House
Barney becomes super-efficient in executing his duties as deputy sheriff after two thieves are jailed in Mayberry until their accomplices are captured.
11:30pm Night Court #106 – Educating Rhoda
Bull falls for a sweet, but inept bailiff trainee who allows a psychotic prisoner to steal her gun, who promptly makes a date with Dan."

The TV Land Video Player has now launched! This month watch episodes of Daniel Boone. This week's episodes are episodes 1, 3 and 23. Also, interviews regarding the show. And watch much more stuff on TVLand.com, such as classic clips from TV Land shows, TV Land originals, promos and retromercials.

TVLand just plain sucks anymore. Another carbon copy of N@N. I haven't watched it for months and see that I have missed nothing by looking at the schedule here. I just love that crap of the midnight marathons, an extra 30 minutes of commercials? Hooray, just what I watch tv for in the first place.
