Wally Cox was very different from Mr. Peepers. According to his UNDERDOG
co-star Norma Macmillan (the voice of Sweet Polly Purebred): "We used to joke
that he wanted to be Marlon Brando and Marlon Brando wanted to be Wally Cox
because Wally was much more macho straighter person than anybody ever
believed. He was quite a hit with the ladies--motorcycles, leather jackets, the
works--and very clever, extremely clever." He was also very intelligent and
spoke four languages and knew about insects, botany and birds. Cox was married three
times and reportedly even wilder than his former roommate and lifelong friend,
Marlon Brando. It was Wally Cox who taught Brando how to ride a motorcycle
(!), according to Brando's biographer Patricia Bosworth.

Raymond Bailey was nothing like Mr. Drysdale on THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES. According to Nancy Culp, he was really somewhat quiet, liked to keep to himself a lot, didn't have many friends and was somewhat tempermental at times.

Carrol O'Conner was nothing like Archie Bunker.

Jack Benny was nothing like his TV & radio persona. He wasn't cheap, and was acctually a very good violinist.*

And, I don't know if this counts since they technically weren't TV stars (although they did make a lot of TV appearences) but THE 3 STOOGES weren't like there movie and TV characters, exept for one thing-Moe was their unofficial "boss" off-camera, too.

*Jack Benny was also married in real life-to his co-star, Mary Livingstone. Her real name was Zelda Marx, but so many people thought it was really Mary Livingstone, that she had her name legally changed to that.

Carroll O'Connor was nothing like Archie Bunker.

The irony is that O' Connor was a liberal and would have dismissed Archie Bunker out of hand.

Alan Alda was not a womanizer like Hawkeye Pierce on M*A*S*H: He was a devoted family man. If anything, he was more like Mike Farrell's character, B.J. Hunnicutt.

Very true, but, maybe thats what made them SO good, they could look at the characters "from a distance" and "see" them better...if you know what i mean
Also , Nancy Kulp (Miss Jane Hathaway on Beverly Hillbillies) wasnt an eager, man-chasing spinster, she was actually a lesbian

Ted Danson - Doesn't really seem like he has that Sam Malone persona in him off camera. Not to mention the fact that he's actually bald in real-life.

Redd Foxx - He's got some of his cynical humor on S&S, but off-camera, he seems a bit mellower than he was on S&S.

Dan Blocker of BONANZA was far more intelligent than Hoss Cartwright. In fact,
he was a schoolteacher before he turned to acting.

A better thread might be actors who are close to the characters that they play.

Amy Bruckner isn't the villainess she plays on Phil of the Future.

Sara Rue isn't as much of a sweetheart as she was in the first season of Less than Perfect.

Brenda Song is nowhere near as idiotic as London Tipton on The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, although she is heavily into shopping, fashion, and other activities considered typically girly.

Sinead O'Connor: What do you know about suffering? Your whole life is frivolous and petty. You spend your whole day worried about whether one of your tenants is gay.
Norman Fell: It's just a part I play...
Sinead O'Connor: A part you chose to play, sir.

Dan Blocker of BONANZA was far more intelligent than Hoss Cartwright. In fact,
he was a schoolteacher before he turned to acting.
The only thing both the actor and the character had in common was fighting.
During his youth in his hometown (Texas), Dan would fight anyone who challenged him.

Residents would rope off a section of town and the fight would be there- Dan fighting some men who were twice his age. He never lost.

Too bad it wasn't filmed... it would be very interesting to watch an actual fight by Dan instead of the scripted ones on "Bonanza."

Both Dan Blocker and Oliver Hardy weighed 14 pounds at birth. By the age of
12, Dan weighed 200 (and 300 when he was cast as Hoss Cartwright).

Here's an interesting tip for some of you. Neither Eric McCormack nor Sean Hayes(of Will & Grace) are gay in real life.

I did hear somewhere that Megan Mullally had a bi-sexual fling at some point in her life, though.

Lucille Ball-she was intelligent and shrewd.....
& Lucy Ricardo was kind of ditzy!

Ted Knight was'nt like Ted Baxter on MTM. In fact, after the first season he wanted to quit because he thought people would think he was dumb, egotistical & cheap in real life, too.
That's one reason they gave him a girlfriend-to attempt to "calm his anger" a little.

Wayne Rogers wasn't anything like the womanizing Trapper John on MASH. He's actully very smart and has a number of succesful buisnesses.

I've heard he also appears on the FOX NEWS CHANNEL sometimes as a financial consultant; I can't confirm this; as I've never seen him on it.

He's an investment broker. He appears on Cashin' in as a regular. Cashin' in, on cable, is a Fox show which appears in my area on Saturday mornings at 8:30 am. It's a great show. Wayne Rogers is far more conventional than the Trapper character on MASH, where he and Hawkeye are the primary iconoclasts.

Is anyone like the character they play on television?

I don't think so. Lisa Welechel isn't the stuck up princess she played on The Facts of Life. Jasmine Guy is NOT like Whitley Gilbert, she doesn't even speak like that(I would hope so), and I highly doubt that Lucille Ball was a whiny clumsy housewife(in real life, she was queen b-i-t-c-h, ruled with an iron fist, poor Lucie and Desi Jr.!)

Because im a hugh fan of hers and she said that she is nothing like her character bree at all cause bree is married and she wasn't married before her husband so that would make that her first husband and she said a billion times that shes allways was messy and doesn'e know how to cook, and thats how i know.
