Better Days

Just so you know where I'm coming from, I am a 37 year old male. Single, loner, mostly happy.
20 years ago, Newsweek did a story of a study on odds of women getting married after 30 and 40. The low numbers were wrong.
It looks like this story was used to slow down womens lib(and sell magazines....to women). The story was based on a "study" that hadn't been published yet. The media hears a little bit and report it.
People start changing their lives because of a statistical study. Turns out, the dismal numbers were for a small group of women(which wasn't mentioned). That's what happens when people hear a soundbite, and not the whole story.

If college educated people believe in these manipulative studies, that doesn't say much for college.
man shortage ? For every woman not getting married, there's a man not getting married.(Men aren't marrying each other!!)
"It reinforces an old myth that once you hit 30, you're over the hill," Not to another 30 year old. 30 is under the hill for me.
...women being told their lives were worthless without a man. Our culture tells everyone this: The idea that a "relationship"(read: sexual relationship, in the guise of expressing ""Love"". 'rolls eyes') is the only thing worth living for. This idea permiates our society because magazines and TV will get the most attention from anything related to sex(it's also easy to write about). And the more we hear about this, the more we think about it, the more we talk(and write) about it.............."and they tell 2 friends, and so on, and so on, and so on," cha-ching. Did I mention, it makes "Mo money, Mo money, Mo money,"
Factor in a gay-male population estimated to be 13 percent—three times that of lesbians—and you have a numbers game women can't win. Aahhh, those ignorant days, when the old men in charge of media got people to believe that women weren't interested in other women(how could they, when women had no interest in sex). We now know that about 50%!!! of women are atracted to women.
"All my friends are having kids," says Penny Stohn, 33. "They tell me how glamorous my life is but I just sit there and envy them."
A case of "the grass is greener on the other side. Meaning, It SEEMS greener. As a "loner", I have to remind myself of this every once and a while.
Be happy with what your life is. Focus on you, not what the majority of people are doing. The majority of people are un-happy.
