View Full Version : French are rudest, most boring people on earth: British poll

I didn't write this, so don't get mad at me.
LONDON (AFP) - The French have been voted the world's most unfriendly nation by a landslide in a new British poll published. They were also voted the most boring and most ungenerous.
A decisive 46 percent of the 6,000 people surveyed by travellers' website Where Are You Now (WAYN) said the French were the most unfriendly nation people on the planet, British newspapers reported.
The Germans have no to reason to celebrate the damning verdict. They came second on all three counts.
WAYN's French founder, Jerome Touze, told the papers he had been stunned by the thumping condemnation of his compatriots and sought to blame it on Gallic love-struck sulking.
"I had no idea that the French would emerge as such an unfriendly country," he said.
"I think our romantic 'moodiness' is misunderstood and I will be sure to pass on the message to my family and friends back in France to be a bit more cheerful to tourists in the future."
Italy was voted the world's most cultured nation with the best cuisine, while the United States was named the most unstylish with the worst food.
The British did not feature in the top 10 of any of the categories.
"The British fit in nowhere -- good or bad. It appears that we are so completely average that the voters did not include us in any category," the tabloid Daily Express commented.
"And to our shame, four percent of respondents -- all British of course -- said they would only talk to other Britons when they are abroad."
This unwillingness to talk to the locals appears to go hand in hand with respondents' perceptions of foreigners.
While most said Spain was the foreign country where they would most like to live, they said the Spaniards were nearly as unfriendly and ungenerous as the French.
To add insult to injury, British newspaper The Daily Telegraph put the boot in on Saturday by saying in an editorial that the French stank.
"The French may like to think that Chanel No 5 is their scent but we all know that garlic and stale Gitanes are much more representative."

I've been to France a couple of times and the French seem really nice...alot of the British I've met aren't so nice though imo.

Interesting poll....
I also find it to be the opposite. I have met a handful of French Acers, and I can say they have been VERY sweet and very nice people. They were actually one of the nicest people I have met.

Now I'm not condeming all British folks...
When you spend as many nights as I do sitting in New York City bars, you meet lots of tourists and travellers. I've had many conversations with lots of great people from all over the world, and the ones that have rubbed me the wrong way are quite often from England.
I don't know what it is, but sometimes they just have the atttitude that they're better than you, and they don't have a problem telling you that even after you've just bought them a drink to welcome them to your city.
And the Americans are unstylish?
;)

I agree, Just look at Simon Cowell, LOL :p Though I do have a wonderful friend that is from England, but she's been in the U.S. for almost 30 years, LOL.

Me too. I'm friends with a guy born and raised in London, but he's been a New Yorker for almost 20 years. He has a problem with the British too.

I beg to differ re: American and British food.
Italy was voted the world's most cultured nation with the best cuisine, while the United States was named the most unstylish with the worst food.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA oh my word. That's funny, because I think that London has some of the WORST food I have EVER ate. In comparison, NYC has some of the most fabulous food I've sampled on my travels.

I can see how Americans might be viewed as unstylish. I do bet that Italy has the best food though I want to visit there someday.

Hey....we have good food!! Damn you hot dog haters!!!!
 That actually reminded me of something Americanized I saw in Europe. You know how we see those food stands in fairs, concerts, etc? Like Mexican food, Chinese food, etc? Well, I remember one concession stand that stood out at the Sportspaleis concert arena in Antwerp, Belgium. It sold hot dogs, sodas, and bags of peanuts. Guess what it was called? "American Food." I about...  It was too cute and funny because it was a tribute of our all-time ballgame/BBQ-style of food. :D
I didn't think about snapping a picture of it to show you all, but I should have. Plus, there were sooooo many people around that it would be difficult to get a good pic of the whole stand. But I wanted to share...
But... here's an outdoor photo of the arena:

It's sooooo HUGE!! The indoor concert hall is down in the basement.

When you eat pasta and pizza every day, trust me, some mcdonald junk, an hotdog or some chinese/indian food is the best thing that may happen in your launchbreak... it's all metter of points of view. :D
And i have serious doubts about the cultured thing also..
cheers from Italy
P.s.: Did they included themselfs in the survey?

Oh, calm down. It was on yahoo news. If it's on such a well known website like that, then I see no reason it shouldn't be here. I don't hate French people, I just thought it was an interesting, and kind of amusing poll. Much worse stuff is posted here at S.O. all the time, so this does belong here.

I'm English, and I'm the loveliest, most wonderful person ever created. :)
I know many fantastic English people...but I do admit, we have our fair share of rude, unfriendly people...but I guess every country does. It's like Atticus Finch said in To Kill a Mockingbird, most people are nice when you get to know them.
One thing that bothers me about some of my fellow Englanders is the attitude that they can have towards foreign people. My Dad says this is snobbery on the part of them; he may be right.
But most of us are all right. John Lennon was English. So are the Bee Gees. They're all great guys.
And I know a particularly remarkable man who is English. He's special.

The British and French have been rivals for centuries, so the poll finding comes as no surprise.

Yeah? Well, Aryan nation has a well-known website, would you post from there? Just cause it was somewhere else, doesnt mean it belongs in here.

Yes, and he made America his home before his unfortunate death. He loved this country, so America isn't that bad a place to live!

Whatever Mikado!! I'm not going to debate something stupid like this with you. You can hardly compare yahoo news to the Aryan nation website. That's quite a stretch.

TJL, do you think I could be a possible candidate for the "loveliest, most wonderful person ever created"? :)

Yes, and [Lennon] made America his home. . . . He loved this country, so America isn't that bad a place to live!

His son Sean was born in NYC, making him the only American-born Beatle offspring - and the only Beatle offspring eligible to run for President of the United States!
After October 9, 2010, that is, when he turns 35. ;)

We should all put signs in our gardens that say, "SEAN LENNON FOR PRESIDENT."
And we should also put signs in our gardens that say, "ELVIS FOR PRESIDENT."
If he wasn't dead, Elvis would be a great President. Who wouldn't love a singing, hip-swivelling President?
