Shop at Home, a Nashville-based home shopping TV network, will close up shop next month because of financial problems, The E.W. Scripps Co. announced today.
The Cincinnati-based parent company said it decided to close the network and the Web site, ShopAtHomeTV.com (http://www.shopathometv.com), after failing to find a suitable buyer for the business, which was beset by operational losses.
The network’s 660 full-time employees were notified today that programming ends June 22. They will receive severance packages and career transition assistance, the company said.
Shop At Home will remain in business through June 30 to allow time to deliver retail products purchased by consumers during the final days of broadcast and online sales, the company added.
“Despite the best efforts and fine work of many dedicated people, Shop At Home was unable to surmount some fundamental weaknesses that have blocked its path to profitability,” Kenneth W. Lowe, president and chief executive officer for Scripps, said in a statement.
