Well, there is actually a somewhat logical explaination to that. See, back in the way day oranges only used to be found in China and east Asia. When Marco Polo came back to France from his travels, he brought back these "foriegn' fruits. Anyway, the French had no idea what to call this new fruit Marco Polo had introduced. So they just settled calling it by it's color. Orange, simply.

Possible names for an orange:

1) Wrinkle.
2) Big round juicy THANG!!!
3) Something the french couldnt name.
4) Red + yellow
5) A fruit the same color as a cheese doodle
6) Seedy little friut now aint it?
7) A marmelette
8) Not cheese

10) A goober.

I work in the produce department of my grocery store and changing fruit/vegetable's names would be a complete disaster!! I know this is all in fun, but I'm just imagining the first month of this "change" and how many times I would escape to the back to avoid all the questions.
