WOW. I thought if Grey's was on Thursday it would air at 9 to prop up another new drama.
Anyway, it is very rough. Mondays look only average, if that's the actual schedule it will not challenge NBC and CBS only at 8pm(perhaps).
Ugly Betty? Looks like a flop.
Thursday and Sunday looks great, Friday looks good, what is "College Football" on Saturday?

ABC is being very secretive. They have some interesting plan for Lost next season, that they will announce tomorrow. Mondays looks to be the most rough, I think that will change tomorrow. Ugly Betty has tested very well, and seems to be an addictive soap.
ABC will air College Football in the fall and more sports, like NASCAR on Saturdays. I don't know what they will do with According to Jim, GLo and What About Brian. Like I said...ABC has some stratgey that is secretive.

From Variety:
"McDreamy and Meredith are on the move.
In what will likely be the boldest move of upfrontupfront week, ABC is today expected to announce plans to move megahit "Grey's Anatomy" to Thursday nights in the fall.
Shift immediately shakes up the established order on a night coveted by networks because of the huge ad coincoin movie studios spend. Over the past 15 years, only NBC and CBS have been serious long-term players on Thursday, with the Eye now the dominant force.
If "Grey's" puts ABC in the game on Thursdays, net stands to reap tens if not hundreds of millions in added revenue over the long haul.
That ABC is moving "Grey's Anatomy" isn't itself a surprise, as there's been speculation about a shift for months. The stunner is the Alphabet's decision to go for the brass ring and move its hottest skeinskein to Thursday.
Most industry speculation had been focused on Monday nights, particularly after the net decided to air the show's second-season finale on the night.
Not immediately clear late Monday was whether "Grey's" will air at 9 or 10 p.m. on Thursday. ABC was keeping a tight lid on its schedule and refused to confirm or deny any moves.
However, there was word late Monday that "Commander in Chief" -- presumed to be dead -- may yet have a pulse. ABC is talking to some of the show's creative team and studio Touchstone TelevisionTouchstone Television about a way to keep it alive in some form.
As for "Grey's Anatomy," slotting the show at 10 p.m. would be the safest choice. NBC's "ER""ER" is fading, while there's been buzz that "Without a Trace""Without A Trace" could switch nights, perhaps to 9 p.m. Sundays. There's also no chance of Fox throwing a spoiler like "American Idol" or "House" into the mix, and sheer ratings would likely be higher at 10.
Under such a scenario, ABC could air a 90-minute version of variety hit "Dancing With the Stars" from 8-9:30 p.m., a new comedy at 9:30 and "Grey's" at 10.
Airing "Grey's Anatomy" at 9 p.m., meanwhile, would follow the CBS model for Thursday night.
Net changed the night forever in 2001 when it moved budding frosh hit "CSI" to 9 and aired the second season of reality smash "Survivor" at 8. It then slowly grew "Without a Trace" into a hit at 10.
ABC could keep "Dancing With the Stars" at 8 p.m. and slot a hot newcomer at 10. However, that move would mean pitting "Grey's Anatomy" against CBS' still-strong "CSI," perhaps reducing ratings for both.
Most radical scenario imaginable would have ABC shifting "Desperate Housewives" to Thursdays as well, essentially moving the bulk of its Sunday powerhouse lineup to a more lucrative night.
Net also could shift "Lost" to Thursdays, though such a move would mean giving the show its third timeslot in as many seasons.
Wherever "Lost" ends up, insiders indicate the network plans to answer fans' prayers by radically revamping the show's air pattern. Skein is expected to air in two big chunks of originals -- one in the fall and one in the spring. ABC then could launch a new show in the "Lost" timeslot come January.
ABC also plans to take a different approach to Saturday nights, at least in the fall. Net's struck a deal to air college football games on Saturdays.
As for the rest of the Alphabet skedsked, net has plenty to play with.
ABC has already ordered a whopping seven dramas and five comedies. New dramas include the family sudsersudser "Brothers & Sisters," the cop-on-the-run thriller "Day Break," the Alaska-set romantic comedy "Men in Trees," bank robbery entry "The Nine," the ensemble soap "Six Degrees," the terrorism whodunitwhodunit "Traveler""Traveler" and the telenovela adaptation "Ugly Betty."
"Betty""Betty" and "The Nine" seem good bets for fall, with "Betty" a possible 8 or 9 p.m. player. "The Nine" performed particularly well with test auds and could be a contender for a slot behind "Grey's Anatomy" if the latter skein settles in at 9 p.m.
On the comedy side, the Alphabet has in its arsenal the wedding-day snapshot "Big Day," therapy laffer "Help Me Help You," the thirtysomething friends entry "In Case of Emergency," the offbeat Mick Jagger caper from Burnett/Beckerman and the babycentric "Notes From the Underbelly."
"What About Brian" also will be back next season, as will "Dancing With the Stars" and reality shows "The Bachelor," "Supernanny" and "Wife Swap." "The Bachelor," which had a successful winter relaunch this year, will be back on the net's fall sked, perhaps on Mondays.
Also returning for the fall: newsmags "20/20" and "Primetime."
For the first time in more than 30 years, Alphabet will have to start a fall season with scripted skeins on Mondays, since "Monday Night Football" will move to ESPN. It seems likely net will keep a femme focus on the night. "Supernanny" and "Wife Swap" were sleepersleeper successes on Mondays in the spring, so ABC may play a pat hand and bring one or both back on the night.
While "Dancing" may keep its Thursday/Friday air pattern, there's been buzz that ABC could try a Wednesday/Thursday sked for the skein.
As for the "Grey's Anatomy" shift, nets rarely go for the gusto and make major game-changing moves like the "Grey's" Thursday shuffle -- but in many cases, the press frenzy that follows the shift helps ensure its success.
Take Fox's gutsy 1990 decision to shift "The Simpsons""The Simpsons" head on against NBC's "The Cosby Show." "Cosby" had been fading, and the upstart network detected an opening for younger auds. But Fox was still considered a wannabe net at that point -- and media outlets couldn't resist the David vs. Goliath battle that ensued.
Shift worked and was the first major scheduling move that turned Fox into one of the big boys.
More recently, CBS finally got into the Thursday game, after a decade as an also-ran on the night, by sensing a similar vulnerability on NBC in January 2001. Eye finally had the goods -- "Survivor" and "CSI" -- and in one swift move managed to alter the balance of power on the night.
"Survivor" and "CSI" didn't immediately win the night for CBS, but it helped crumble NBC's lock on Thursday. Eventually, the Eye pulled off a feat once thought impossible: winning Thursday night in the youthful 18-49 demo.
ABC has taken several stabs through the years at finally making some noise on Thursday. Net briefly broke through on the night at the start of this decade thanks to the "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" phenom. But that streak was short-lived.
Alphabet really hasn't had a consistent Thursday night since the late 1970s, when shows like "Mork & Mindy" gave the net a strong showing. But in a case of making a game-changing move that didn't work out, Alphabet shifted that Robin WilliamsRobin Williams show to Sunday, where it tanked. ABC quickly moved it back, but the damage was done. It's those kinds of risks in moving established hits that make network execs lose sleep."

I've seen "Ugly Betty" before, I watched it on Univision or Telemundo when it was called "Betty La Fea." I was addicted to it. This is obviously a remake of that spanish speaking series. I heard rumors that Salma Hayek was attached to it. I don't know how true that is, but I loved the original.

What are your thoughts on the schedule Pav?
Me? I like it, for the most part. A lot of new shows which is always risky. Grey's at 9PM is brilliant. I'll be watching Ugly Betty (I refuse to call it Betty the Ugly, should of kept the first name) on Fridays and of course will be watching Dancing with the Stars (I'm so happy it's not on Thursdays, but I think it should of been, it would of been a killer lead in to Grey's, sitcoms won't do it).
I see the sitcoms on Thursday bombing. I think the rest will be good to g.
And any news about Commander in Chief, Pav?

This schedule sucks in some areas and in some it's really good.
Mondays-God, where to begin? Brian is not going to survive there. This is NBC's night now.
Tuesdays-Great... but once Dancing is over, the night collapses.
Wednesday-Good... but after Dancing, once again, 8pm is very weak.
Thursday-A HUGE risk. 9pm is going to be a warzone(and Grey's is going to be down in that timeslot). 8pm hour looks weak.
Friday-Not good.
Saturday-Interesting.
Sunday-Good, but I really think Football is going to hurt this night.

ABC decided to go with Grey's on Thursdays, so Mondays will be the same. If they had Grey's on Mondays, then Thursdays would have been dead, so it is OK because ABC Mondays isn't that bad right now. Their problem was Tuesdays and Thursdays, and I think they will be much better now there.
Mondays - I think it will do decent (Supernanny is a spoiler and is surprising) but I am not happy What About Brian is not getting a drama as its lead-in.
Tuesdays - Brilliant move by moving DwtS there. The game show for January looks good, and then DwtS is back in March probably (maybe on another night if AI is here). The two sitcoms should do OK and BL has proved it can do well at 10pm
Wednesdays - Results Show and Lost will be huge in the fall. The Nine will probably do well, too. George/Jim will return to the slot probably in December. George did well last fall in the slot, before AI came, so I expect it to do good again.
Thursdays - Nice flow! Two female oriented comedies, followed by a huge female oriented hit in GA, and then a high profile pilot from J.J. I think CSI will be down big next fall with GA and Studio 60 in the mix. I expect CSI to win the slot in total viewers, but GA has 18-49 locked in. If Without a Trace moves to another night, Six Degrees will likely be number one at 10pm over the aging ER.
Fridays - Risky airing two new shows back to back. Betty the Ugly has tested very very well. That, The Nine and Six Degrees are probably their best new fall shows. Brothers & Sisters too. Men in Trees is a good mix with Betty...this should be an addictive night, as both are soapy.
Saturdays - Good move actually. College Football will be good for them and now they should win most Saturdays.
As for Chief...ABC is working on a couple of movies (mini-series maybe) for it!

Primetime Live is also not dead:

Subject: Newsmagazines
The primetime schedule for this fall has been announced and I wanted to let you know that our two newsmagazines, 20/20 and Primetime, have been renewed for full seasons.
This means that each broadcast will be asked to produce at least 48 hours of news programming during the 2006-2007 season. 20/20 is scheduled for 10 PM Fridays. Primetime will continue on Thursday night into September. We expect that Primetime will be put in a new time period sometime later in the season – one in which Primetime and the overall primetime schedule will do the best for one another. Starting with the new season, Primetime will appear as special edition sometimes more than once a week.
I realize that this is a new way of configuring Primetime. It also provides us an opportunity to draw upon Primetime’s unique innovation, creativity, and skill in jumping on a big story. We will be looking for special stories and groups of stories that we can program together as limited series that draw special attention. If anything, we may see more hours of Primetime this fall than before – with special hours during the week.
It’s good to remember that Primetime was up 20 percent this past quarter – the biggest increase for any newsmagazine.
Bottom-line: both of our newsmagazines will be called upon to produce as much or even more programming in the coming year as we did during the 2005-2006 season. Our loyal audience can expect to see tremendous journalism from our whole team of correspondents and producers.

Holy crap. Grey's Anatomy's 2-part finale clobbered CSI: Miami last night. I wasn't expecting it to win by that bug, but wow! 15.0/23 for the 10 p.m. hour for GA to Miami's 10.5/16. The 9 p.m. hour was also huge...13.2/19. I have no doubt now that GA will do very well on Thursdays.

Yeah, but it'll be facing CSI. I have no doubt it'll do very well, but it won't beat it, and I expect it to be down.

Personally, I think this ABC schedule stinks. I won't be watching very much which is fine. I don't really like those single camera sitcoms much, and thanks to McPherson most of their sitcoms were canceled the past two years. I much prefer the traditional multi camera sitcoms.
I think ABC is a network relying on just a few shows to carry it. The only shows they really have that appeal to lots of people are Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy, Lost and Dancing With The Stars. Other than that their programming is basically garbage. I bet we are here next year, and ABC will be canceling most of their new stuff, and bringing in a whole new batch again.

I don't know. Six Degrees and Brothers And Sisters look interesting to me. I'll probably give them a try. I doubt any of the sitcoms will be big hits though. I'm not interested in ABC's Monday lineup. I guess its good counter programming but it's not my cup of tea.

The dramas will all do well. The Nine, Six Degrees, Brothers & Sisters especially will probably become big hits. Those 4 shows you mentioned, uh of course they will use them to launch shows. Those 4 are all top 10 shows, so it makes sense to me to try and make other hits out of them. The comedies on Tuesday could get a 7 rating after DwtS. The Thursday comedies if they do a 6 rating, ABC will be pleased. 8:30pm will be higher because of the GA halo effect. This schedule could heavily have no wholes, and should all do well in 18-49. It'll be interesting how the Friday shows do, though. Hit or miss.

The dramas may do well, but the sitcoms will probably fail. Rememeber, Crumbs could not hold the Dancing With The Stars audience and got canceled. That will probably happen to most of these new sitcoms, too. When was the last time ABC added a hit sitcom ?

Looks like ABC is turning into the soap channel, much like CBS is the procedural drama channel.

Their sitcoms sound good, I will check those out - but they don't seem to have the next 'Friends', or even 'Two and a 1/2 Men'. Nothing in the drama's section for me - all seem to be too gritty or just another 'What about Brian' with a guy moaning about his life.

Having also had the priveledge to see the ABC upfront presentation this year, most of the new shows definitely have a lot of promise. That being said, the watch/record schedule IS:
TUESDAY:
9:00 p.m. "Let's Rob..." (new comedy series)
9:30 p.m. "Help Me Help You" (new comedy series)
10:00 p.m. "Boston Legal"
WEDNESDAY:
10:00 p.m. "The Nine" (new drama series)
THURSDAY:
8:00 p.m. "Big Day" (new comedy series)
8:30 p.m. "Notes from the Underbelly" (new comedy series)
Due to Earl and particularly The Office, these will DEFINITELY be for-later shows. As for Grey, I just kinda got...out...of it this year. Seems like...something...changed.
10:00 p.m. "Six Degrees" (new drama series)
FRIDAY:
8:00 p.m. "Betty the Ugly" (new comedy series)
I usually just read SmackDown spoilers before-the-fact anyway, and this looks interesting. I just hope it doesn't get all moany, whiny, and up it's own behind, otherwise, my remote'll be flipping back to CW quickly.
SATURDAY:
8:00 p.m. "ABC Saturday Night College Football"
SUNDAY
10:00 p.m. "Brothers & Sisters" (new drama series)
MONDAY:
8:00 p.m. "Wife Swap"
9:00 p.m. "The Bachelor"/"Supernanny"
10:00 p.m. "What About Brian"
What a load of garbage! They should have tried harder to keep "Monday Night Football".
TUESDAY:
8:00 p.m. "Dancing with the Stars"/"Set for the Rest of Your Life"
9:00 p.m. "Let's Rob..."
9:30 p.m. "Help Me Help You"
10:00 p.m. "Boston Legal"
This should be a strong night for ABC, mainly because of weak competiton, so the new comedies could do well here. This also would have been a good spot to put in Patricia Heaton's new show. I'm very surprised she didn't even rate a mid-season spot. Maybe next year she could try again, re-unite with Ray Romano, and do a sitcom about a married couple who work in a hospital. I would call it "Ray's Anatomy".
WEDNESDAY:
8:00 p.m. "Dancing with the Stars"/"George Lopez"/"According to Jim"
9:00 p.m. "Lost"
10:00 p.m. "The Nine"
"George Lopez" and "According To Jim" are still on? Why, Oh Lord, why? Talk about feeling "Lost"!
THURSDAY:
8:00 p.m. "Big Day"
8:30 p.m. "Notes from the Underbelly"
9:00 p.m. "Grey's Anatomy"
10:00 p.m. "Six Degrees"
This is where ABC took their biggest gamble, moving "Grey's Anatomy" to Thursdays at 9. It should beat NBC's new "Studio 60" but will need some luck to overtake "CSI", and the new sitcoms will need a major miracle to beat some heavy competition at 8:00.
FRIDAY:
8:00 p.m. "Betty the Ugly"
9:00 p.m. "Men in Trees"
10:00 p.m. "20/20"
"Betty The Ugly"? "Men In Trees"? Who came up with these dumb titles? Sorry, ABC. I'll be watching "Deal Or No Deal".
SATURDAY:
8:00 p.m. "ABC Saturday Night College Football"
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.....booooooorrrrring!
You can have your college football. Where I come from, Saturday night is hockey night!
SUNDAY:
7:00 p.m. "America's Funniest Home Videos"
8:00 p.m. "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition"
9:00 p.m. "Desperate Housewives"
10:00 p.m. "Brothers & Sisters"
"Desperate Housewives" is back! That's all I need to know.
Now, for you NFL fans (Go Cowboys!) who also love DH, here's an easy plan to follow. At 8, go to NBC and catch the first half. At halftime, switch to ABC. When DH ends, go back and watch the last part of the game, which normally doesn't get interesting until the last 5 minutes of the 4th quarter. In other words, you won't miss much! This is why God invented VCRs!

Yea but they're going to have the marquee games. I hear they'll even get to change games late in the season so the top teams will be on. Plus they got John Madden and Al Michaels. I don't like ESPN's announcers.

I'm inclined to agree with you, but I think it will be a VERY close call on Sundays 9-11.
If FOX comedies remain at 9... I see DH(19-20 million) beating Football by only 1-2 million(17-18 million) on an average night. I see Football beating WAT but only by a small margin(some nights WAT will beat Football if the game is boring).
I see WAT being closer to 17 million. It gets 19 million now with CSI as a lead-in.
Brothers and Sisters is going to struggle, but will do decent. I see 14-15 million, and maybe lower depending on how good it is.

I don't think they will burn any off of that or Crumbs.
I posted my predictions for ABC's fall premiere dates here:
http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?goto=lastpost&t=167865
Also, I saw on some message board (via a link from someone) about a person or two saying that our rough leaked schedules before upfront are made up. Whoever said that is totally wrong. I get them from people at the networks a day or so before the actual upfronts, and I can't help if they change it some or totally, but the schedules are true "work in progress" skeds. Some years they haven't changed anything, like ABC's 2005 schedule was right on money, but I don't think many people realize that the schedules are changed so much before the upfront day. Why do you think I say "rough" schedules? I frankly think it is interesting to see what else they were thinking of doing. If these people don't, that's fine, but accusing of posting false schedules is unprofessional, because these schedules are "not made up." I wouldn't even think of doing that--I've been with SitcomsOnline for over 6 years, no need for me to ruin my reputation. Thought I'd clear that up.

Been messing with this, and I thought I'd post what I think will happen this season on ABC...
Here is what I would do later on in the season:
Sundays
7:00PM AFV
8:00PM EM: HE
9:00PM DH
10:00PM Brothers & Sisters
Secrets of a Small Town *MIGHT* be in contention again, so I would give
it a post DH slot for its premiere, in say January, and move it to
Mondays.
Mondays
8:00PM Wife Swap
9:00PM Secrets of a Small Town (Jan-May?)
10:00PM What About Brian / Men in Trees (Jan?)
Brian is going to be much much better this year. And I liked it last
season!
Tuesdays
8:00PM Dancing with the Stars (Sept-Nov Mar-May I guess) / Set for the
Rest of Your Life (Jan-Feb)
9:00PM Knights of Prosperity
9:30PM Help Me Help You / In Case of Emergency (March?)
10:00PM Boston Legal / October Road (March?)
They have that game show Set for the Rest of your Life coming in
January to give Dancing a break. Emergency comes later in the year to
give Help Me a little break. Maybe October Road, since it might be in
contention, could give Boston a bit of a break when it is in reruns.
Wednesdays
8:00PM Dancing with the Stars: The Results (Sept-Nov, Mar-May) /
Supernanny (Jan-Feb)
9:00PM Lost (Oct-Nov, Feb-May) / Day Break (Nov-Jan)
10:00PM The Nine (Oct-Feb) / Traveler (Feb?)
Lost will be back in early February, that is when they should try
Traveler right after it. Jim/George are expected to air in Jan and Feb,
but I doubt it...maybe Supernanny would move here for those months.
Thursdays
8:00PM Ugly Betty (Jan?)
9:00PM Grey's Anatomy
10:00PM Six Degrees
Fridays
8:00PM Wake Up-Call (Jan)
9:00PM Just for Laughs / According to Jim
9:30PM Just for Laughs / George Lopez
10:00PM 20/20
Saturdays
College Football and NASCAR
They might do a TV-movie project for the unsold pilot A House Divided.
Commander in Chief TV-movie could also air.

Forgot to post the press release. No other outlets have picked up on it, it seems. So we have an exclusive!!
“UGLY BETTY” GETS THE CALL TO LEAD-OFF ABC’S THURSDAY NIGHTS
ABC announced today it is shifting the hour-long series “Ugly Betty” to Thursdays, leading into critically acclaimed hit, “Grey’s Anatomy.” “Ugly Betty” will premiere THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 2006 from 8:00-9:00 p.m., ET.
“Ugly Betty,” the highly anticipated American take on the international phenomenon from executive producer Salma Hayek, has been well received by critics, advertisers and others who have previewed the pilot. Encouraged by the early positive response, ABC will move “Ugly Betty” from its previously announced Friday timeslot (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET).
Comedies “Big Day” and “Notes from the Underbelly” will now kick off later in the fall after Dancing With the Stars completes its run.
America’s Funniest Home Videos will continue to do double duty on Fridays and Sundays as it has been doing since March.

I think they will put new episodes of AFV on Fridays and air repeats on Sundays. That might be the best option. Or we can see another change soon, with maybe EM: HE to 7pm Sunday? And maybe Men in Trees to 8pm Sunday? Should be interesting. Then I would think 9pm Friday would be George/Jim.

So ABC basically has now pushed aside (at least temporarily) 2 of its 4 sitcoms on its Fall schedule. According to my recollection they now only have two sitcoms (Knights of Prosperity & Help You, Help Me) on their Fall schedule. All the other new sitcoms (and two returning sitcoms) will debut later in the season. I am sure they will all probably have between 2-13 weeks runs and all be canceled. This ABC is a bunch of morons. They would not know a good sitcom if they fell over it. I think this is an insult to sitcom lovers such as myself. ABC only cares about their dramas and their search for the next hit. Thank goodness we have CBS, NBC and hopefully FOX to give us sitcom lovers something to watch.

Knights of Prosperity is by far the best new sitcom. The stuff NBC and Fox is shelving are terrible. CBS is just giving The Class, and the pilot was OK, but hopefully it gets better. NBC's 20 Good Years is very bad. 30 Rock isn't my cup of tea, but I think fans of Earl and Office will love it. Fox's two sitcoms...well Brad Garrett should be ashamed, that pilot was obnoxious, maybe a Raymond curse will be next.
So ABC will have 2 new sitcoms in early fall, NBC also two, Fox two and CBS one. So what is your point? ABC still has 3 new sitcoms coming, plus Jim/George. There are not a lot of sitcoms on any network. Dramas are pulling in ratings and not to mention they have been very good in the last few years.

I agree they should have picked those two sitcoms over them. Even though I didn't see them. I saw Big Day and Underbelly, they were OK. I bet females would like them, but I couldn't get into them much.
What I would do mid-season:
Sunday
7:00 - EM: Home Edition (new slot effect. Jan)
8:00 - Men In Trees (would air Fridays at 9 Sept-Nov)
9:00 - Desperate Housewives
10:00 - Brothers & Sisters
Monday
8:00 - Wife Swap / Supernanny
9:00 - Secrets of a Small Town (effect. Jan)
10:00 - What About Brian
Tuesday
8:00 - Set for the Rest of Your Life (Jan-Feb); DwTS (Mar-May)
9:00 - The Knights Of Prosperity
9:30 - Help Me Help You
10:00 - Boston Legal / October Road
Wednesday
8:00 - American Inventor (Jan-Feb); DwTS (Mar-May)
9:00 - Daybreak (Nov-Jan); Lost (Returns in early Feb)
10:00 - The Nine (Sept-Jan); Traveler (premieres in early Feb)
I'm betting Traveler will do HUGE and will last until May.
Thursdays
8:00 - Big Day (Dec-Jan) / Ugly Betty returns in Feb.
8:30 - Notes from the Underbelly (Dec-Jan)
9:00 - Grey's Anatomy
10:00 - Six Degrees
Friday
8:00 - AFV (Sept-Dec, Mar-May); Wake up Call (Jan-Feb)
9:00 - George Lopez (Dec-Mar); Just for Laughs (April)
9:30 - According To Jim (Dec-Mar); Just for Laughs (April)
10:00 - 20/20
Saturday
8:00 - NASCAR/Movies

Out of all the new sitcoms coming this year this is what i heard:
Successful
The Knights Of Prosperity
20 Good Years
Moderate
The Class
Help Me Help You
30 Rock
And Barker, P.I.
The Singles Table
Big Day
In Case Of Emergency
'Til Death
The Winner
Failure
Notes From An Underbelly
Happy Hour
The Game
So Im rather suprised you said twenty good years is horrible...
Who is saying 20 Good Years is good? TV Guide even bashed it. I think Knights of Prosperity and 30 Rock have gotten the best reviews among the sitcoms.

Thefutoncritic said it was good and and internet friend and a friend i know both saw the pilot and said it was a great comedy, just what you would expect from both the leads (and Im a fan of both their previous works)...When did TV giude talk about them? do you know if the article is up online?

TheFutonCritic also said they hated Ugly Betty, which is so strange because every other outlet LOVED it. I liked it, too. They loved Knights of Prosperity though, so they have some taste at least.
Here is what TV Guide said about 20 Good Years:
TWENTY GOOD YEARS PRESENTATION
4:04 pm: Call it "Golden Guys," starring John Lithgow and Jeffrey Tambor. Or just call it what I did after watching the pilot: "Twenty-Two Unfunny Minutes."
4:06 pm: Jeffrey Tambor has pulled off the incredible feat of going from the best comedy on network TV to the worst — all in the same year. That must be some kind of record.
4:14 pm: Executive producer Tom Werner showed the pilot to his teenage son and he loved it. So that's the audience for this show.
4:19 pm: I think John Lithgow just said this show was "wonderfully written." Now there's a statement that demands a follow-up joke about crack.
4:29 pm: An NBC publicist interrupts the session with eight of the most beautiful words I have ever heard: "That's all the time we have for today."

Wow that's harsh...but TV Guide has been wrong before...they originally deemed MNIE a failure last year because of its time slot and its lead out but look where it went...
Well, from everything I've seen of the show...eh, just looks okay. Not great, not horrible. Moving the two sitcoms away from Earl/Office though definitely helps in THAT decision. I certainly know what I'll be watching at 8:30 each week for sure now.

True but they never questioned the quality of the show--which of course is great. I think NBC might be 3rd place next fall from 8-9pm Thursday. Maybe 4th if Garrett's sitcom hits, but I don't think so.

Yep! The show is DOA. I don't think it's going to well after DH at all either(think Invasion after Lost)... they don't even seem to be compatitable. I'm only going to try it because it's after DH and I don't really have anything else to watch, but I don't think I'm going to stick around.
I think moving Ugly Betty is a great move... it was never going to breakout on Fridays, and I think a lot of people who watch Grey's will like it too, but now I think Fridays is very weak. Men in Trees will die quickly(has anyone seen any promos for it? I haven't) with AFV(a family show) as a lead-in.

Reviews are not favourable, too darn depressing they say. Calista Flockhart as a conservative radio pundit - I was pleasantly suprised by Tom Skerrit - until I found he was killed off, the show sounded like heaven to me but then I read the synopsis of people dying and all their problems and frankly I couldn't give a cr*p :)

How can there be reviews of Brothers and Sisters? ABC has not sent any screeners yet for the show. What people are talking about is the pilot that was shot earlier in the year, which is WAY different than the current pilot. I hope to get the pilot from ABC very soon.

hmm, well maybe it is less dark/depressing but with a showrunner gone it doesn't look good.
The dark and depressing tone of the show hardly matches it with Desperate Housewives.

Difference is it is not during the season. Plus the executive producer wasn't the creator of the show like Rod Lurie was.

But still, with episodes scheduled and episodes to be made, its got to have some effect. Just because nothing has aired yet doesn't mean they don't have to have [x] episodes shot before [y] and that this will cause some delay. Maybe they won't be able to air the show without reruns until Christmas because of a backlog?
Switching showrunner, an integral part of the show, can never be easy.
Brent88
08-09-2006, 07:12 PM
The fact that they had to make drastic changes to the pilot isn't good either... and 6 weeks before the season starts, it's still not avaliable for screening? No buzz + against an established hit + Football= Quick death. Plus no one's watching ABC this summer to see the promos anyway. :p
Pavan
08-09-2006, 08:01 PM
Until the pilot is screened, I can't really judge these changes. All hoopla trying to get a show canceled before it even airs. With the star cast it has, that alone, plus Desperate Housewives as its lead-in, the show could still do decent numbers. Ally fans will be watching I'm sure.
I don't think the quality of the episodes for Chief was the problem. Sure, Bocho made it more political, but I still saw the family fare in it. I think the big gap of repeats was the problem. I think it is better to have problems now then during the actual season when you can't replace it quick. If ABC is having production problems with the show, they can move another show, say Men in Trees, in its spot. But during the season that would be disastrous.
As for the promos, they have other ways to promote the show. Print, billboards, other Disney related channels (ESPN (though that wouldn't fit), ABC Family, SoapNet, and even Lifetime). Plus ABC Daytime has seen tons of promos for this show, Ugly Betty, Men in Trees and Six Degrees...as all are sort of soapy. ABC really started the creative promotions with the Lost bottles and DH laundry bags.
I just hope Secrets of a Small Town does get picked up for midseason. The pilot was awesome. I would air it Mondays at 9, with a preview episode after DH to get it started.

I think if B&S gets decent ratings move that to befor WAB? as they are both more drama ish shows and put SoaST after DH as they are both more soapish... plus only one airing after DH wouldn't help it as much as half a season after DH would for B&S seeing as mondays at 9:00 midseason is where all the comp is (24, Heroes, & TaaHM)

“MEN IN TREES” had originally been scheduled to premiere on Friday, Sept. 22.
“A good man in today’s world isn’t as difficult as some women think. You just have to watch out for the signs. You wouldn’t drive with a blindfold on, but for some reason, women continue to date with one.” So native New Yorker Marin advises a crowd of her devoted fans. Marin thinks she has found her good man, her fiancé Graham, when she discovers, bound for a speaking engagement in Elmo, Alaska, that he has been cheating on her. Plans for the wedding come to a screeching halt. Coming to the conclusion that she doesn’t know anything about men, Marin resolves to stay temporarily in Elmo, where the ratio of women to men is ten to one, and get started on her new book – about men.
“MEN IN TREES” stars Anne Heche as Marin Frist, Abraham Benrubi as Ben, Emily Bergl as Annie, Seana Kofoed as Jane, Suleka Mathew as Sara, Derek Richardson as Patrick, Sarah Strange as Theresa, James Tupper as Jack and John Amos as Buzz.

Tom Bergeron of ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” and “America’s Funniest Home Videos” to Host
The ABC Television Network presents a sneak peek at the new Fall season - - complete with exclusive on-set visits and cast interviews -- in two half-hour specials. “ABC Sneak Peek: The Dramas” is set to air WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 13 (9:00-9:30 p.m., ET), followed immediately by “ABC Sneak Peek: Comedy and Reality” (9:30-10:00 p.m.) on the ABC Television Network.
Exclusive footage from “ABC Sneak Peek: The Dramas” will get the adrenaline racing with scenes from the Emmy Award-winning phenomenon “Lost” and returning hit “Grey’s Anatomy,” as well as the new thriller, “The Nine.” Calista Flockhart stars in “Brothers and Sisters” as a political pundit whose tight-knit family suddenly unravels at a birthday celebration. New this season is “MEN IN TREES,” starring Anne Heche as a best-selling relationship coach whose life takes a 180 degree turn when her fiancé’s cheating prompts her to take refuge in the wilds of Alaska. An intriguing tale of intertwined destinies unfolds in the new J.J. Abrams series, “Six Degrees,” and chaos and brilliance continue to mix in the Emmy Award-winning “Boston Legal.” Returning as well for a second season is “What About Brian,” which takes a semi-serious look at a group of friends in various stages of romantic relationships.
A turn toward the real, the funny and the real funny follows with “ABC Sneak Peek: Comedy and Reality.” Premiering this season is “Ugly Betty,” based on a groundbreaking Colombian telenovela that became an international phenomenon. America Ferrera is Betty Suarez, the oversized peg in the round hole at Mode magazine, the bible of the fashion magazine, where she struggles as secretary to a publishing mogul’s son. Hit primetime black comedy “Desperate Housewives” returns to further reveal the lives of housewives in suburbia, which aren’t always as they appear. Also returning is the Emmy-winning “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” which this season travels across America, starting from the North Pole, to help families in areas the series has never ventured to before.
New this season is “The Knights of Prosperity,” about a group of average Joes who form a “crew” whose intention is to finance their dreams by robbing Mick Jagger’s Central Park apartment. Also new is “Help Me Help You,” starring Ted Danson in a comedy about a collection of eccentrics brought together in group therapy by a therapist with even more problems than those he hopes to help. Returning is “The Bachelor,” the ever popular romance reality series which will be set in one of the world’s romantic capitals, Rome, and will challenge a bachelor in search of the perfect woman. Returning as well is “Wife Swap,” based on the smash hit in the U.K., a reality series in which two women swap families for two weeks to see life from each other’s point of view.
The sensation “Dancing with the Stars” is back to pair celebrities with world-class professional ballroom dancers for live competitions before a national television audience. Also returning is the American television institution “America’s Funniest Home Videos,” entering a seventeenth season of wildly funny video clips sent in by video buffs and judged by a studio audience.
The “ABC Sneak Peek” specials will be broadcast with Spanish subtitles via secondary closed captioning. A TV parental guideline will be posted closer to airdate.

RATINGS UPSET: ABC's 'Grey's Anatomy' season opener out-rates CBS 'CSI'... 17.1 rating/25 share to 14.9 rating/22 share... ABC WINS THURSDAY NIGHT, CBS SHOW, NBC IN DISTANT THIRD
WOW.
tvguide.com:
This where the ratings get fun, folks. Cutting to the chase for a moment, Grey's Anatomy's new time slot (and those multiple video-playing ads, I have to assume) paid off big time, as the ABC drama bested 9 o'clock hour stalwart CSI in their premieres' head-to-head clash. The overnight tally: Grey's 25.15 million total viewers, CSI 22 mil. Grey's also has can claim bragging rights to the droolworthy 18-49 demo, where it snagged 50 percent more than CBS' crime drama.
Rewinding to 8 pm, Survivor: Cook Islands led the pack with 17.7 million, followed by a Grey's clip-show (13.4 mil) and NBC's My Name Is Earl/The Office combo (each with about 9 mil). Leapfrogging to 10 pm, we had a bit of a horse race, as ER's kazillionth-season premiere, with an audience of 15.5 million, edged out newbies Shark (debuting with 14.9 mil) and Six Degrees (with 13.3 mil).

"Survivor: Cook Islands" put CBS on top at 8 p.m. with a 9.8/16. A "Grey's Anatomy" clip show on ABC was a strong second at 9.2/15. NBC was third with season premieres of "My Name Is Earl," 5.8/10, and "The Office," 5.7/9 (which actually built on its lead-in a little in total viewers and 18-49). "'Til Death," 3.9/6, and "Happy Hour," 3.0/5, were fourth for FOX. The CW went with a "Smallville" rerun.
At 9 p.m., the "Grey's Anatomy" season premiere, 15.7/23, scored a rather shocking win over CBS' "CSI," 13.5/20, which has dominated the timeslot for several years. "Deal or No Deal" was a distant third for NBC at 6.5/10. "Celebrity Duets" slumped to a 2.4/4 for FOX. A "Supernatural" rerun on The CW trailed.
Another medical drama, NBC's "ER," won the 10 p.m. hour with a 10.0/16. The premiere of "Shark" on CBS averaged 9.8/16. ABC's "Six Degrees" lost a big chunk of its lead-in to finish at 8.6/14.

Now for somewhat bad news...
From Mediaweek:
“Degrees” lost 47 percent of its considerable lead-in, averaging a 5.8 in adults 18-49. More alarming, the show dipped steeply at 10:30 p.m., falling from a 6.6 to a 4.9.

Yeah, both Shark and Six Degrees had a big fall, but I think we can't say anything about them until next week. All I will predict is ABC has a great chance of winning 8-10pm each week, so if they can get 13 million at 10pm, they will be happy probably. Ugly Betty will beat Survivor. 10pm was still close for all three, only a 3 million difference or so from 1st to 3rd place. So, I wouldn't call a timeslot winner in there yet.
Still shocked GA beat CSI in viewers. I knew GA would kill it in 18-49, but even viewers?? This is more than what ABC expected and certainly more than I thought.

Yes... CBS needs to be very worried about Shark as well. I'm surprised it was that low and even more surprised that the 7,641th season premiere of ER won the hour! I think maybe Grey's Anatomy helped it...

ABC won the first Thursday of the 2006-07 TV Season by 20% in Adults 18-49 over second-place CBS (7.2/19 vs. 6.0/16). It was the Net's first victory in the key young adult sales demographic on a season opening Thursday since at least 1991 - the start of Nielsen's electronic database.
* ABC was up by 9.1 million viewers and by 227% in Adults 18-49 from the same night a year ago (8.2 million & 2.2/6 on 9/22/05). In fact ABC delivered its strongest opening Thursday numbers in at least 15 years - since at least 1991.
* In Total Viewers and Adults 18-49, ABC marked its best performance on any Thursday night with entertainment programming since May 4, 2000.
"Grey's Anatomy: Complications of the Heart" (8:00-9:00 p.m.) Carrying momentum over from the strong numbers put up by the "Grey's" season finale repeat the previous evening (Wednesday, 9/20/06 from 9:00-11:00 p.m.), the "Grey's Anatomy: Complications of the Heart" clip show put ABC into a solid second-place during the opening hour on Thursday in Total Viewers (13.5 million) and Adults 18-49 (4.8/13). The "Grey's" clip show ranked No. 1 in the hour among Women 18-34, beating CBS' "Survivor" by 19% (6.3/18 vs. 5.3/15).
* Warming up the time period for ABC, as the Network prepares for the debut of "Ugly Betty" in the hour in a week (on 9/28/06), the special generated ABC's best viewer and young adult numbers in that hour in 6 months - since 3/16/06.
"Grey's Anatomy" (9:00-10:00 p.m.) Thursday's No. 1 TV program, ABC's season premiere of "Grey's Anatomy" dominated its new time period, beating CBS' "C.S.I." by 3.1 million viewers (25.1 million vs. 22.0 million) and by 45% in Adults 18-49 (10.9/26 vs. 7.5/18). "Grey's" advantage over "C.S.I." in Adults 18-34 stood at an enormous 91% (10.5/28 vs. 5.5/15). "Grey's Anatomy" became the first non-finale of any series to beat an original "C.S.I." in 2-1/2 years among Adults 18-49 - since 4/1/04. Furthermore, it's the first scripted non-finale series ever to draw a larger audience than "C.S.I." in original Thursday head-to-head competition.
* In its third premiere, "Grey's Anatomy" offered ABC its best numbers in the time period with series programming since May 2000 - since 5/25/00 in Total Viewers and 5/4/00 in Adults 18-49.
* Versus its season premiere last year which came out of "Desperate Housewives," "Grey's" was up by 6.1 million viewers and 31% in Adults 18-49 (19.0 million & 8.3/20 on 9/25/05). It was the third-highest-rated telecast ever for the series, behind only Parts 1 & 2 of its post-Super Bowl episode.
"Six Degrees" (10:00-11:00 p.m.) Up against CBS' well promoted series debut of "Shark" and NBC's season opener for time period veteran "ER," the series debut of "Six Degrees" delivered ABC's best non-sports performance in the hour in 3-1/2 years in both Total Viewers (13.3 million) and Adults 18-49 (5.8/15) - since 2/6/03. ABC's debut telecast of "Six Degrees" beat CBS' debut of "Shark" by a strong 38% in Adults 18-49 (5.8/15 vs. 4.2/11).
* Versus the same night last year, ABC's numbers catapulted in the hour by 5.7 million viewers and by 123% in Adults 18-49 (7.6 million viewers and 2.6/7 in AD18-49).
* "Six Degrees" represents ABC's strongest Thursday night scripted series debut in Total Viewers since 1994 and top-rated among Adults 18-49 since 1991.
* The retention of "Six Degrees" coming out of "Grey's" in Total Viewers and Adults 18-49 (53% in Total Viewers/53% in Adults 18-49) was nearly identical to the retention that CBS saw in the same time period with the series debut of "Without a Trace" (53% in Total Viewers/50% in Adults 18-49 on 9/26/02). "Without a Trace" went on to become a key program for CBS, now entering it fifth season and currently being used by CBS to build up Sunday night.

Ugly Betty won't overtake Survivor, IMO, but it will hopefully do really well to at least be second (I predict it'll get at least 13 million).
I wasn't surprised at all Grey's Anatomy (the show just rocks) beat CSI. The question now is ... can they keep it up?

After what happened with CSI and Survivor now no longer what it was (no double digit ratings even), I can see Ugly Betty beating it. That show is probably only one of the few that will hit this fall, and it could be the first to break out. So far no new show has. Ugly Betty, The Nine and Heroes probably have the best chance to, if they don't, then what a bust for the fall.

You know, a few days ago I would have agreed with you. However I am still in SHOCK that a Grey's RECAP was less than a ratings point behind Survivor! That is amazing. The cast was on Oprah this week and the hype around the show is unreal. I think that it may very well beat Survivor. I'm actually considering watching it live and taping Survivor, something I've NEVER done in the 4 1/2 years I've watched the show.

Yeah, but that's Grey's Anatomy. Ugly Betty is a different story, it's got the POTENTIAL, I agree and I want it to do well because I've been looking forward to it for months. I really want to watch UB, but Survivor is my first priority. I'll watch Betty online.
I guess I could see Betty overtake Survivor but it wouldn't be by much. They'd probably be near or equal to the other.
We'll see though.
And I still don't see why people are so stunned by Grey's beating CSI. I knew it would. CSI is an aging series (a good show still but aging). Grey's is fresh and hot. I knew it would beat it. But I didn't expect it by that much. That I was surprised about. But like I said ... we'll see what ratings are like next week.

ABC held the lead at 9 p.m. with "Dancing," 13.5/20, and the premiere of the comedy "Help Me Help You," which shed quite a bit of its lead-in audience to finish at 8.0/12. CBS stayed in second with "The Unit," 7.7/12. "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" moved NBC into third with a 7.1/11, while FOX's "Standoff" came in fourth with a 5.0/8. The CW went with a repeat of the "Runaway" premiere.
That's about the same numbers Crumbs got for it's premiere after DWTS(and we all know what happened to that). It held onto only 59% of it's lead-in. ohno: Once DWTS is not propping it up, it'll get the usual crappy numbers.

BL had a huge drop last night. If it wasn't for Smith on CBS being so disappointing, they'd be in even worse shape.
"Law & Order: SVU" dominated the 10 p.m. hour for NBC with a 9.8/16. ABC's "Boston Legal," 6.6/11, edged CBS' "Smith," 6.4/11.

Betty is a breakout hit!!!
The premiere of the critically hailed "Ugly Betty" scored a 10.7/17 for ABC at 8 p.m. "Survivor: Cook Islands," 9.6/15, was second in households for CBS but won the hour in viewers and adults 18-49. "My Name Is Earl," 5.2/8, and "The Office," 4.8/7, were a distant third for NBC. FOX came in fourth with two episodes of "'Til Death." The sixth-season premiere of "Smallville" delivered a 2.9/5 for The CW.

Hopefully Betty can pull these numbers next week, too. If so, our first real hit of the season. The Nine will be the next hit. Heroes did well in A18-49, but let's see if it can next week. Jericho is doing good for CBS Wed at 8pm. Shark is OK. Brothers & Sisters is too early to call. Everything else so far has not been impressive. Studio 60 is down from what Medium did last year.

-Six Degrees (ABC)
Overnights: 8.7/13 to 6.4/11 (-26)
Total Viewers: 12.61 to 9.00 million (-3.61 million)
Adults 18-49: 5.1/13 to 3.6/10 (-29)
ohno:
and I liked the show too... but those numbers are HORRIBLE.

I like Six Degress, too, but that is bad at 10:30. I think it will last until December at least. And maybe ABC will launch a new drama this January or possibly move Men in Trees there. Still, Six Degrees is an improvement over Primetime Live on most nights.
ABC has really done well at 8 p.m. this fall. They did very well last year and again this year at 9 p.m., but 8 p.m. is strong this fall. 10 p.m. needs a bit more work but Boston Legal and Six Degrees are decent enough for now. The Nine should be big. The only 8 p.m. show that did well last fall was on a Sunday (EM: HE). And 10 p.m. of course was GA on Sunday.

Quick Take for Thursday, September 28, 2006 (Based on Fast Affiliate Ratings)
ABC Wins its Second Straight Thursday in Adults 18-49, Beating CBS
ABC's "Ugly Betty" Opens as the Most-Watched New TV Show of the Season, Generating ABC's Best Scripted Numbers in the Time Slot in Well Over 11 Years
"Grey's Anatomy" Beats CBS' "C.S.I." Again, Ranking as Thursday's No. 1 TV Program Across the Adult Demos; ABC's Top Scripted Series Time Period in Over 15 Years
ABC's "Six Degrees" Tops CBS' "Shark" in the 10 O'clock Hour in Young Adults and Women, Improving the Slot by 5.1 Million Viewers and by 133% in Adults 18-49
Thursday Night (8:00-11:00 p.m.)
For the second straight week, ABC qualified as the #1 network on Thursday night among Adults 18-49, beating out CBS (6.2/16 vs. 6.0/16). ABC was also the No. 1 network on the evening with Adults 18-34 (5.7/17) and in all key women demographics: W18-34 (8.1/22), /W18-49 (8.7/21) & W25-54 (9.8/21).
* ABC's new Thursday lineup is already delivering impressive returns, as the Network is up by 9.5 million viewers (17.1 million vs. 7.6 million) and by 205% in Adults 18-49 (6.7/18 vs. 2.2/6) over the first two Thursdays of last season.
"Ugly Betty" (8:00-9:00 p.m.)
From 8:00-9:00 p.m. ABC's debut telecast of "Ugly Betty" opened as the most-watched new show of the season (any network), with 16.1 million viewers and a 4.9 rating, 14 share in Adults 18-49, taking a very strong second to CBS' time period veteran "Survivor" on both counts. From start to finish, "Ugly Betty" saw its audience soar by 3.2 million viewers (14.5 million to 17.7 million) and by 33% in Adults 18-49 (4.2/12 to 5.6/15)...edging out "Survivor" at 8:30pm in viewers (17.7 million vs. 17.5 million) and Adults 18-34 (4.6/13 vs. 4.5/13). Incidentally, against "Betty" "Survivor" was down from last week in both viewers and young adults. "Ugly Betty" won its time period, beating "Survivor," across the women demographics: W18-34 (5.9/17 vs. 4.9/14), W18-49 (7.0/18 vs. 6.7/17) & W25-54 (8.3/19 vs. 8.1/19).
* The debut of "Ugly Betty" attracted ABC's largest audience with a scripted program in the time period in nearly 11-1/2 years - since 4/27/95, with an episode of "Matlock." No other regular scripted program has delivered a higher Adult 18-49 rating for ABC in the Thursday 8 o'clock hour in more than 12 years - since 8/25/94, with the series debut of "My So-Called Life."
"Grey's Anatomy" (9:00-10:00 p.m.)
For the second straight week, ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" beat CBS' "C.S.I." to rank No. 1 in the time period across the key adult demographics: AD18-34 (8.7/23), AD18-49 (9.4/22) & AD25-54 (10.3/22). In the key Adult 18-49 sales demographic, "Grey's" beat "C.S.I." by 19% (9.4/22 vs. 7.9/19).
* For the second week in a row, ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" stood as Thursday night's No. 1 TV program in all key adult and women demographics.
* In Total Viewers and Adults 18-49, "Grey's" is producing ABC's strongest scripted series numbers in the time period in at least 15 years - since at least September of 1991, the start of the Nielsen electronic database.
"Six Degrees" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)
During the 10 o'clock hour, ABC's "Six Degrees" outpaced its CBS' drama competition ("Shark") among young adults (AD18-34/AD18-49) and across the key women demographics. In Adults 18-34, "Six Degrees" beat out "Shark" by 57% (4.4/13 vs. 2.8/8).
* On average in its first two telecasts, "Six Degrees" has improved ABC's performance in the hour by 5.1 million viewers (11.7 million vs. 6.6 million) and by 133% in Adults 18-49 (4.9/13 vs. 2.1/6) over the same nights last season.

Help Me Help You is dead... lost 50% of the lead-in.
ABC Tuesday will be a major disaster when DWTS is not on.
ABC held the lead at 9 p.m. with the conclusion of "Dancing," 13.2/20, and "Help Me Help You," 7.0/11. NBC's "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" scored an 8.2/13 to tie for second with "The Unit" on CBS (the latter did better in total viewers). Baseball on FOX scored a 5.7/9, while the season premiere of "Veronica Mars" on The CW delivered a 2.1/3.

Mediaweek:
The good news for ABC was a midweek victory, with a first-place finish in the overnights (and most likely total viewers and adults 18-49 when the fast national results are released). But the third season-premiere of the still dominant Lost came down considerably from it’s year-ago opener. Lost averaged a first-place 12.3/18 in the overnights, which comparatively was down by 18 percent from its year two debut (Overnights: 15.0/21 on Sept. 21, 2005). Yes, folks, this could be concerning, particularly given that ABC is foolishly putting new Taye Diggs drama Day Break into the Lost time period for three months beginning in mid-November.
Lost led into the debut of drama The Nine, which is likely to share dominance with CBS’ CSI: NY in the 10 p.m. hour once the fast nationals are released. As it stands, The Nine debuted with a second-place 9.1/15 in the overnights (but is expected to dominate among adults 18-49 courtesy of lead-in Lost). While that was an improvement of 17 percent in the overnights from year-ago occupant Invasion (Overnights: #3, 7.8/12 on Oct. 5, 2005), there are two other things to keep in mind about The Nine.
1) Retention out of Lost was 74 percent in the overnights (with similar results expected among total viewers and adults 18-49). That may not sound great, but comparatively it was an improvement over former occupant Invasion.
2) Erosion in the second half hour was 11 percent in the overnights (9.6/15 to 8.5/14), with similar results expected among total viewers and adults 18-49.
Brent88
10-05-2006, 02:49 PM
This is very disappointing.
"CSI: NY," 10.2/17, won the 10 p.m. hour for CBS. The premiere of "The Nine" on ABC lost a significant number of "Lost" viewers to finish at 7.8/13. NBC's "Kidnapped" took another hit, coming at 3.7/6.
It'll probably be below a 7.0 next week. If NBC would get rid of Kidnapped, it'd probably fall to 3rd.

“Big Day” follows a very special day in a young couple’s life, their wedding day… but tells the stories you don’t see on the wedding video -- the father who sits his daughter down on the morning of her big day and tells her he really doesn’t think she should marry this guy; the bitter bridesmaid older sister who sleeps with the best man and accidentally drinks his contact lenses, which he left in a glass of water on the nightstand, blinding him for the rest of the proceedings; the groomsman who’s secretly in love with the groom; the tightly wound mother of the bride who intimidates the nervous wedding planner into changing the salad (the bride’s choice, Caesar, is just so tacky!).
This program will utilize a seamless transition into “Help Me Help You.”
“Big Day” stars Marla Sokoloff (ABC’s “The Practice”) as Alice and Josh Cooke as Danny – the blushing bride and groom -- Wendie Malick (“Just Shoot Me”) as Jane, Kurt Fuller (“Anger Management”) as Steve, Miriam Shor as Becca, Stephen Rannazzisi as Skobo and the hilariously nervous Stephnie Weir (FOX’s “Mad TV”) as Lorna.
Josh Goldsmith and Cathy Yuspa are creators and executive producers. Matthew Carlson is executive producer. “Big Day” is a production of Sony Pictures Television

The date is certainly interesting. Strange time to premiere...wonder if it is a burn-off? Notes from the Underbelly and Knights of Prosperity pilots were much stronger, in my opinion. Especially Knights! I'm guessing those will be saved for January.

Big Day sounds horrible to me. Won't be watching. I can't believe they dropped Knights for THAT!
Pavan

They didn't drop Knights for that, Brent. I think this is a burn-off for Big Day. It will be airing POST-November sweeps, even in December. Knights will be saved for a better marketing promotion. Which I think is good because October 17 would have been a bad time to premiere.
Big Day was watchable though. Kurt Fuller of DH was good. I also liked the What's Happening!! theme song usage, lol. But the pilot was for sure weak.

Poor Six Degrees. :( Meanwhile, Ugly Betty appears to be staying for awhile! :D
Mediaweek:
Although one of the success stories this season, of course, is ABC’s improved position on Thursday, the network has actually sprung a leak at 10 p.m. Week two of the alphabet net’s exceptional Ugly Betty opened the evening on another promising note, with an 11.1/17 in the overnights (#1), 14.18 million viewers (#2) and a 4.4/13 among adults 18-49 (#2) at 8 p.m. Comparatively, that was a loss from last week’s inflated opening levels (Overnights: #1, 12.2/19; Viewers: #2, 16.32 million; A18-49: #2, 5.0/14 on Sept. 28) of only 9 percent in the overnights, 2.14 viewers and 12 percent among adults 18-49. In other words, get used to Ugly Betty!
Ugly Betty led into blockbuster Grey’s Anatomy at a dominant 15.8/23 in the overnights, 22.46 million viewers and a 9.2/13 among adults 18-49 at 9 p.m. Comparably, that was an advantage over CBS’ competing CSI (Overnights: #2, 14.5/21; Viewers: #2, 21.22 million; A18-49: #2, 7.2/18) of 9 percent in the overnights, 1.24 million viewers and 22 percent among adults 18-49. But despite the enormity of its lead-in, recently introduced ABC drama Six Degrees sunk to a mere, and record low, 6.9/11 in the overnights (#3), 9.65 million viewers (#3) and a 3.9/10 among adults 18-49 (#2) at 10 p.m.. A few things to keep in mind about Six Degrees are:
1) Retention out of Grey’s Anatomy of just 44 percent in the overnights, 43 percent in total viewers and 42 percent among adults 18-49.
2) A loss of audience in the second half-hour of 23 percent in the overnights (7.8/12 to 6.0/10), 2.45 million viewers (10.88 to 8.43) and 23 percent among adults 18-49 (4.4/11 to 3.4/ 9).
3) Erosion in just two weeks of 26 percent in the overnights, 2.91 million viewers and 28 percent among adults 18-49.
Three-week track for Six Degrees:
9/21/06 – Overnights: 9.3/15; Viewers: 12.56 million; A18-49: 5.4/14
9/28/06 – Overnights: 7.5/12; Viewers: 10.15 million; A18-49: 4.1/11
10/05/06 – Overnights: 6.9/11; Viewers: 9.65 million; A18-49: 3.9/10
Yes, you can consider Six Degrees one of the biggest bombs of the new season.

I'll post the final numbers shortly.
But Six Degrees needs to be doing a bit better in the ratings. It doesn't have to be 1st place or even 2nd place, but a close 3rd place would suffice. Hopefully the Grey's cross-over gives it a good boost because SD is a very good show. My second favorite newbie so far, behind Ugly Betty. When Knights premieres, that will go on top ;)

They are doing a Grey's crossover with Six Degrees?
That's the plan... if the show lasts that long. The numbers last night were REALLY bad though. I'm not totally sure it'll air next week(though it's still on the schedule as of now).
and yeah, ABC can do better considering Grey's is the #1 show. Without a Trace is gone from the timeslot so nothing is getting over a 10 rating(Shark, while doing ok, should be doing better). It's pretty amazing when ER, after 12 years, can still win it's timeslot.

Brent, they won't remove Six Degrees next week for sure. They're being patient. I think they should be, too, since Primetime Live was doing bad at that slot last season, so it is an improvement, lol.

Do you know what episode the Grey's crossover will happen? I think the show will air for another 3 weeks until Sweeps start(hopefully), but if it continues to lose 55-60% of the lead-in and loses 20-25% throughout the hour, there's no way they can keep it on after that(in the Post-Grey's slot anyway).
I HOPE if they do pull it that maybe they'll try some of their existing shows in the slot(and not Grey's repeats). What about Men in Trees? What About Brian? If The Nine struggles, what about it? I also hope if it's Primetime that maybe they can have more Medical Mysteries specials. I think those would do really well.

I think I heard "multiple episodes." I don't know when though. I'd guess later this month. It would have Addison and Mark (McSteamy) leaving for NY for a while during the GA hour and then up next on SD they arrive or something. Not official yet.
I always thought that GA/WAB would work well together. Back in May I was pondering GA/WAB for Mondays 9-11pm. I don't think ABC will move WAB to Thursdays at 10. Six Degrees will probably be the only show there until mid-season (BTW, I'm pumped for the WAB premiere...I'll laugh if it beats Studio 60 in the ratings). I think they would try a new show Thurs at 10 first. Men in Trees doesn't have the 10pm feel, I think.
I think The Nine will work out of Lost. They just need to be patient.
Yes, I liked those Medical Mysteries specials, too. The Outsiders was too weird.

Grey's Anatomy is in Seattle. Six Degrees is in NYC. But Addison might be going back to her hometown of NYC with her lover Mark (McSteamy). Derek (McDreamy) and Addison were in NYC before, but Derek left NYC of course because Addison slept with his best friend Mark.

FWIW... Criminal Minds beat Lost in the Fast Nationals and Overnights, but Lost had more viewers.
The Nine is dead. Dateline beat it!
CBS' "Criminal Minds" had a 10.9/16 in the 9 p.m. hour, beating the 10.2/15 for ABC's "Lost," though the ABC drama averaged more viewers. FOX's baseball was third, outdoing the 5.0/8 for NBC's "Biggest Loser." The CW was last with the 2.2/3 for "One Tree Hill."
"CSI: NY" helped CBS close the night strong with an 11.5/19. NBC's "Dateline" easily outperformed former time slot occupant "Kidnapped" and delivered higher ratings than "The Nine," which slumped to a 5.7/9 in its second week on ABC.

Lost killed Criminal Minds in 18-49 though and it beat it in total viewers, too...just the household rating went to CM. But nice growth for CM as it is the most returning show showing growth. CSI: NY is also benefiting at 10pm without Law & Order.
The Nine needs to do better. It is too bad because last night was much better than the pilot, I thought. Daybreak looks very very good. A promo aired last night during Lost and I can't wait! I should get my copy of the pilot soon.
ABC 10pm needs work right now on most nights. Their 8 and 9pm shows are very big, though.
Brent88
10-12-2006, 12:24 PM
Lost just BARELY won in total viewers. 180,000.
Lost - 16.66 million, 6.7 demo
CM - 16.48 million, 4.4 demo
Of note: The Nine's drop was WORSE than Six Degrees drop for it's 2nd week. Ouch.
More from Mediaweek:
Week two of ABC’s The Nine completely squandered its Lost lead-in, with a distant second-place 7.0/11 in the overnights, 8.41 million viewers and a 3.2/ 9 among adults 18-49. Compared to it’s week-ago debut (Overnights: #2, 9.1/15; Viewers: #2, 11.91 million; A18-49: #2, 4.6/12 on Oct. 4), that was a loss of 23 percent in the overnights, 3.50 million viewers and 30 percent among adults 18-49. The Nine also declined significantly at 10:30 p.m. with a loss of 18 percent in the overnights (7.7/12 to 6.3/10), 1.93 million viewers (9.38 to 7.45 million) and 25 percent among adults 18-49 (3.6/10 to 2.7/ 7).

Well... Grey's was down slightly last night, but still beat CSI(what happened to that show? It used to get over 25 million), while Six Degrees didn't drop as much as the previous week, but still not doing well. Survivor beat Ugly Betty but it was a VERY strong second.
At 8 p.m., CBS' "Survivor" delivered a somewhat soft 9.4 rating, but still held off ABC's "Ugly Betty," which had a 9.3/15 (nearly two million viewers more watched the CBS reality show).
ABC grabbed a lead at 9 p.m. with the 14.6/22 for "Grey's Anatomy," topping the 13.3/20 for "CSI," while the viewership margin was roughly 1.25 million.
ABC's "Six Degrees" again lost a sizeable portion of its lead-in, doing a 6.3/10.

“UGLY BETTY” PICKED UP FOR A FULL SEASON
The most-watched new TV show of the 2006-07 season, “Ugly Betty” was picked up for a full season order, Stephen McPherson, president of ABC Entertainment announced today. The show, based on the world’s most popular telenovela, “Yo Soy Betty La Fea,” is executive-produced by Salma Hayek and stars America Ferrera as Betty Suarez.
“In just two weeks ‘Ugly Betty’ has given us an impressive foothold leading into the ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ hour on Thursday night,” said McPherson. “The show has proven to be competitive in a very strong time period, and we’re thrilled with ‘Ugly Betty’s’ performance.”
The ABC freshman has already established itself a solid second to CBS’ time period veteran “Survivor” in the 8 o’clock hour among Total Viewers (15.3 million) and Adults 18-49 (4.7/13), while holding the No. 1 position on average with Adults 18-34 (4.0/12). On average, “Ugly Betty” has improved the time period for ABC by 96% in Total Viewers (15.3 million vs.. 7.8 million) and by 92% in Adults 18-49 (4.8/14 vs.. 2.5/7) over the same nights last year. Additionally “Ugly Betty” qualifies as the No. 1 new series this season in Total Viewers (1.13 million) and Adults 18-49 (3.2/9) among Hispanic viewers watching English language TV.
About “Ugly Betty”:
In the superficial world of high fashion, image is everything. Styles come and go, and the only constants are the superthin beauties who wear them. How can an ordinary girl – a slightly plump plain-Jane from Queens – possibly fit in?
If you took a moment to get to know Betty Suarez, you’d see how sweet, intelligent and hard-working she is. But few people do, because in the world of high fashion Betty is the oversized peg in the petite round hole. When publishing mogul Bradford Meade hands the reigns of Mode, the bible of the fashion industry, over to this son, Daniel, he specifically hires Betty as his son’s new assistant – mostly because she’s the only woman in NYC Daniel won’t sleep with. Though this “player” is reluctant to accept her at first, Betty’s indomitable spirit and bright ideas will eventually win him over. Neither of them really knows the ins and outs of the fashion world, but the two are a formidable team against those who will do anything to see them fall.
And they really are swimming with the sharks. Diva fashionista Wilhelmina Slater is incensed that Bradford Meade passed her over and promoted Daniel to the coveted job after the mysterious death (or was it?) of Mode’s legendary editress, Fey Sommers. Wilhelmina, along with toadying assistant Marc and scheming receptionist Amanda, are out to sabotage Daniel and Betty any chance they get. Betty finds a friend in warm-hearted Christina, who works as the magazine’s in-house seamstress and seems to know everything about everybody who works there.
Away from work, Betty’s home life is far from glamorous. Dad Ignacio and her sister, Hilda, worry that she’s just setting herself up for a fall, while nephew Justin encourages his aunt to dream big (even if he’s aghast at her fashion sense). Nerdy boyfriend Walter, who unceremoniously dumped Betty, keeps turning up despite her attempts to get him to stay away.
“Ugly Betty” stars America Ferrera as Betty Suarez, Eric Mabius as Daniel Meade, Alan Dale as Bradford Meade, Tony Plana as Ignacio, Ana Ortiz as Hilda, Ashley Jensen as Christina, Becki Newton as Amanda, Mark Indelicato as Justin and Vanessa Williams as Wilhelmina Slater. Recurring guest stars are Michael Urie as Marc and Kevin Sussman as Walter.
Based on “Yo Soy Betty La Fea,” the groundbreaking Colombian telenovela that became an international phenomenon, “Ugly Betty” is from Touchstone Television. Academy Award nominee and Emmy Award winner Salma Hayek is executive producer, along with Silvio Horta (“Urban Legends”), Ben Silverman, (“The Office”), Jose Tamez (“The Maldonado Miracle”), James Parriott (“Grey’s Anatomy”) and James Hayman (“Joan of Arcadia”).
“Ugly Betty” is broadcast in 720 Progressive (720P), ABC’s selected HDTV format, with 5.1-channel surround sound and Spanish audio via SAP.

Desperate Housewives levelled off last night with a 12.8/19(12.9/19 last week, 13.2/20 two weeks ago). Brothers and Sisters however continued it's drop with an 8.3/13. That's a retention of 65%. That's better than The Nine and Six Degrees are doing, but not that great either. Resembles more of what Boston Legal did after DH than Grey's Anatomy.

ABC announced late Monday (Oct. 16) afternoon that the network was giving a full-season order to "Brothers & Sisters," from Ken Olin, Jon Robin Baitz and Greg Berlanti.
"'Brothers & Sisters' is a great addition to our Sunday night lineup and has given us a strong complement to 'Desperate Housewives,'" says ABC Entertainment President Stephen McPherson.
Thanks in large part to that "Desperate Housewives" lead-in, "Brothers & Sisters" has averaged roughly 14 million viewers and ranks as the second-highest rated new series of the season among adults 18-49.
"Brothers & Sisters" features an all-star ensemble led by Calista Flockhart, Sally Field, Patricia Wettig, Ron Rifkin, Balthazar Getty and Rachel Griffiths and tells the story of the Walker family and their intertwining romantic and professional lives.
Before the show made it to the air there were causes for concern. The initial pilot had to be largely scrapped after Sally Field replaced Betty Buckley and the producers decided to rebalance several creative aspects of the pilot. There were additional worries early in shooting when Marti Noxon ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer") exited the show and Berlanti ("Everwood") was called into service.
For now, at least, none of that appears to matter and viewers can look forward to 22 episodes of family hijinx

Final ratings for October 16 show What About Brian's rating a tad down from what was reported earlier, because of the football game in Chicago and Phoenix. Brian still beat Studio 60 in A18-49 and almost won in viewers and HH. Brian was also up from its premiere in everything.

Dancing with the Stars Finale Part 1 will air Tuesday, November 14 from 8-9pm, followed by the Barbara Walters Special - “30 Mistakes in 30 Years" from 9-11pm.
I think the Stars finale part two is a day later from 8-10pm, followed by the premiere of Day Break. Not confirmed yet.

OK, Day Break's series premiere is Nov. 15 from 9-11pm. So, I guess the second part of the Stars Finale is 8-9pm or on that Sunday...not sure.

Well DWTS was a big waste tonight. I hope some people don't come back to watch next week. That was stupid and ridiculous. The finale better be an hour on that Wednesday also.

I think that was the right thing to do. I didn't want to see a vote for a kicked-off celeb coming back.

Criminal Minds beat Lost again... and this time, CBS beat it in viewers as well.
At 9 p.m., CBS' "Criminal Minds," 10.6/16, narrowly beat ABC's "Lost," 9.9/15, for the lead (the margin in viewers was only about 30,000 people).
The Nine was steady at a 5.8/9(5.7/9) last week, beating Dateline(though once Medium starts in 4 weeks it will defintely be 3rd place).
