I could be in the middle of typing something, and half of it didn't get typed because of those stupid drop down banners at the top of these boards.

The banners don't interfere with my posting. It must be my browser or something. The way the banners flash drives me nuts.

I agree - it is very annoying. It doesn't really happen when I am typing as much as it happens when the page is loading and freezes up for a few seconds.

I have installed the Google toolbar to stop the majority of the popups, but I still get about one or two. They are always the same ones, too. I can't remember which ones it is at the moment, but I will get back to that the next time I come across it.

I hate and find them extremely annoying when they pop up while I'm trying to type something and/or look at interesting info. on the net.

I use Firefox with ADBlock, but for IE users, try this program http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description/0,fid,22475,00.asp

I have Firefox and must have some kind of good blocker because all I get is half of one. Sometimes, if I click fast enough it doesn't get a chance with me.

i have also ad-blocked all of those ebay ad-links on the pages here too.

It's not just those ads, but those "flashing" banners that say, I was like, the 1000th person to log on, and guess what, I won something. If my luck is that good, I should go buy a superlotto ticket. All those flashing ads just get me heading for the medicine cabinet for a couple of Excedrin (the flashing can trigger a migraine)

I have pop up blocker. What is the difference between pop up blocker and ad blocker?A pop up blocker blocks windows that pop up, an ad blocker blocks ads that appear at the top of that page.

with the right filter codes in Adblock you can block practically anything on a page.

i also use adblock to hide those occasional seizure-inducing, flashing avatars that people sometimes put up, and other page elements i dont want to see.

firefox lets you control what webpages can do with javascript as well - i have disabled the ability for scripts to: move, open or resize windows, disable or replace context menus, hide or change the status bar, or to change images.

you can also "whitelist" pop-up windows, so ONLY the sites you add in there are allowed to open any pop-ups, and all popup requests from other sites are ignored.

most standard pop-up blockers use a "blacklist"/"whitelist" scheme to block either known pop-ups or known pop-up like activities; as soon as the pop-up creators figure out the filters they can change their code to get around the pop-up blockers. If your pop-up blocker isnt blocking these pop-ups, look for an update or try a different one.

Which reliable adblocker do you recommend?
