Does anyone remember this case? It was in Georgia and he owned a pizza joint and was rivals w/ a guy named Mooney?. Supposedly Mooney placed a hit on Harty and later escaped from prison?

Yes, Mooney escaped from prison in 1980. But he was finally caught in 1989, after he was profiled on UM. The case was later the subject of an episode of City Confidential.

That'd be interesting to see, since it's such a different slant on the case.

I have actually tried to find a way to buy a copy of the city confidential episode on T.K. Hardy. A & E I believe sells them. However it costs a bundle to buy it from them and I am trying to find it somewhere else for cheaper. I am kind of surprised Elmo Florence is still in prison and hasnt been paroled yet. Florence is now 75 and I think he will be paroled probably within the next 5 years. John Mooney is now 58 years old and is still in prison. Even after his escape Mooney is now in a medium security prison as opposed to Florence is still in a maximum security one. Mooney probably would have been paroled by now if he hadnt escaped. Mooney will get out eventually but his escape delayed it. Based on Georgia sentencing guidelines from when the crime was committed in 1977 both Mooney and Florence first became eligible for parole after serving 7 years of their life sentence.

That surprises me... I'm not someone who is particularly "hard on crime," but I still believe he deserves life.

Saw the original NBC version of this case for the first time today, on Crystaldawn's best of UM volume 3 that I got yesterday. Yes, that one scene where Elmo breaks out the glass and gets in there and the phone rings twice as a signal from Mooney and then you see T.K.'s headlights turn in is a scene that is completely left out of the Lifetime edition of this. T.K. and Mooney most certainly did have a war on their hands and they hated each other. Mooney being a young guy probably just got emotional about his eviction by T.K. and didnt think about the consequences of what he was doing or whether or not he would be caught. It kind of seems like the plan was hurried and wasnt planned very well although Mooney still would have got away with it had Florence been able to keep his mouth shut. I was floored when Stack said that Florence only got paid a hundred something dollars to kill T.K. Mooney also making that blunder when he knew why he was being questioned before the news of T.K.'s death had even been released publicly. Mooney was probably nervous and that is why he slipped and said that. It is interesting to note that even though he has been back in prison for a long time since his recapture, he is now still not in a maximum security prison. Mooney is currently in a medium security prison. It is also interesting to note that Mooney escaped from the Wayne Correctional Institution in 1980. Convicted killer William Jordan also escaped from that same prison in 1984.
