OK, it's early in the year, and every year sees sleeper hits, or movies that aren't drawn to our attention until much nearer to their release date through advertising etc, but what films have caught your eye already that you really wanna see?
For me its:
Rent- only coming out in UK next month
Manderlay- hopefully will eventually come out too!
Romance and Cigarettes- not total must-see: but love the Dennis Potter lip-synching style
The Black Dahlia- not 'must-see'- but looks very interesting.
Dreamgirls- total definite gotta see- sorta supporting the movie musical genre
Perfume: The Story of a Murderer- book was disturbing but great story, could be a fantastic movie
Hard Candy- looks like a very tense movie. Plus Patrick Wilson is a great actor
The Prizewinner of Defiance Ohio- looks fun, plus I love Julianne Moore's other 2 'discontent 50's housewife' movies- The Hours and Far from Heaven.
The Da Vinci Code- I know, taken in by the hype- but looks great
A Scanner Darkly- the way the movie is shot is incredible. I loved 'Waking Life' but wanted to see the animation used to actually tell a story, rather than in Waking Life which is more like a series of anecdotes.
Marie Antoinette- the trailer looks great- love the use of a modern soundtrack- credits look very stylised too- it's as though Coppola's shot the story of Marie Antoinette as narrated by one of the girls from The Virgin Suicides.
Infamous- 2 Capote movies telling the exact same part of his life! Interesting for comparison- plus this one features famous figures as characters eg Peggy Lee.
