during their tribute to celebrities who have died in the last year? He was a television star, but he was also a star who appeared in movies. Did they show him??? I caught the tribute right in the beginning, or so I thought, did I miss it or did they not show his photo??????

No, they didn't honour him. I was pretty pissed off about it myself. You give your life to the industry, and they don't have enough class to even mention you during their silly little award show?? I know he was mostly known for his tv stuff, but still, he definitely should have been honored!!!
Atleast he was honoured here at S.O. by all his fans though. The people here at S.O knew he deserved to be tributed, even if the Academy didn't.

Don Knotts should have been honored.
I heard there was no mention of our troops either. Even more shameful, in my opinion.
I mentioned the lack of tribute of both Don Knotts and Darren McGavin to my brother, and he thought that they will be honored at next years Oscars. Because isn't the ceremony supposed to be the best movies of 2005. Since they both died in 2006 maybe they won't be honored until the next oscars. But if don't have anything next year I willl be pissed. At least you know Don Knotts will have a huge tribute during the Emmy's this fall.

Ok, u may be right. sounds like that is the case. I didn't see Dennis Weaver either, so yep, it could be next year that we will see them.

I guess that could be, but they did include Shelley Winters in the memorial. Hopefully they will honor them next year, because it just doesn't seem right that they would exclude so many.

Good point. I think it was an awful oversite.

It kind of reminds me of when they didn't include Glenn Quinn (played on Roseanne, and Angel), in the tribute portion of the Emmy's in 2003. I was shocked by that, but to not pay respect to Don Knotts, with the long and storied career he's had, that goes way beyond shock!! Hopefully ya'll are right though, and they honour him next year.

I'm sure the tribute section of the Academy Awards requires a lot of preparation for the presentation of each deceased actor/actress. As Shelley Winters passed away on January 14, there was enough time to add her into the tributes. As Knotts, McGavin, and Weaver passed away very recently, there was not enough time to include them in the tribute presentation. I'm sure they will all be honored next year.

they didnt honor him cuz obviously the guy died like a week or so b4 the oscars.....the tribute film has been done already so i guess they figured it would be a hassle or sumthin to add him...but im sure it will be in next years oscars....unless they forget....which would piss me off
and why a tribute to our troops? ok....i dont see anything wrong in that but damn if were gonna honor our troops at the oscars then i guess we should honor all the innocent iraqi people being killed by our troops and dont bitch and complain when an actor or actress makes a comment about our pres whether it be good or bad....its not being un-patriotic its FREEDOM OF SPEECH!

I found out that they only honor people in the movie industry who died the year prior. So, this year, they honored those who died in 2005. Next year in 2007, they will honor those who died in 2006, and so Don and the others will be honored: Darren McGavin and Dennis Weaver.
