Justin Berfield, Faith Ford in TV-movie

"Coerced and Betrayed" stars Justin Berfield as a troubled young man who wants to build a life of his own, but his well-meaning, but controlling mom [Faith Ford] has other ideas. Whenever Jordan [Berfield] tries to make something of himself, mom Maureen [Ford] goes ballistic, accusing her son of not "getting with the program". After landing a job as a bagger at a grocery store, Jordan remains plagued and bothered by his mom's overprotectiveness. All the years of pent-up anger and rage build up inside, and finally results in his having a meltdown. After destroying most of his possessions, including his yearbook he got in his senior year in high school, he attacks his mom, and is taken to jail. While he is on trial, Maureen, who had suffered a concussion when Jordan threw her down the steps, regains consciousness. Jordan's defense attorney, Jerome Braddock[Gerald McRaney] finally gets Maureen to confess that she had had her own personal problems, which is why she had been domineering her son. Jordan Grimes is ultimately found not guilty, and he and his mom reconcile their differences. Maureen vows never to control her son ever again, and the two grow close to each other again.

This movie, which deals in psychological, verbal, and spiritual abuse, also features Karen Duffy as Kathy Jensen, a supervisor at Jordan's employer who becomes close to him, Frederic Forrest as Tony Norbutt, who befriends Jordan, Betsy Randle as Debbie Peterson, Maureen's best friend and co-worker at the school she works at, and Reni Santoni as D.A. Harry Jackson, who wants Jordan sent to prison.

Gerald McRaney has backed out due to a commitment to a weekly series. Richard Masur will assume the role of Jerome Braddock, Jordan's defense counsel. The cast will now be as follows: Justin Berfield as Jordan Grimes, Faith Ford as Maureen Grimes, Eddie Karr as Conrad Grimes, Jordan's young brother, Betsy Randle as Debbie Peterson, Frederic Forrest as Tony Norbutt, Karen Duffy as Kathy Jensen, Karen Sillas as Karen Beckley, human resources director at Jordan's employer, Ron Glass as Bill Allen, one of Maureen's friends, Richard Masur as Jerome Braddock, Reni Santoni as D.A. Harry Jackson, and Conchata Ferrell as Judge Linda Kirk Baker.
