Max and 99's Heights...

TVLand said something about how Max and 99's heights were always changing because Barbara Feldon had to be taller, or Don Adams had to be taller or something like that. Can someone clear up what was going on and why?

Barbara Feldon was actually taller but Don Adams wanted to appear taller so she would slouch and not wear shoes and he would stand on half an apple crate.
