In the 2 parter episode "To Sire With Love", it has the Kaos guy (Rupert, I think) listed as: Rupert of ______ as Himself.
So was he royalty or something special, or was this a gag?

Chrissy: I am not! I'm just always hungry.

James Caan played the part of "Ruthless Rupert of Rathskeller." He and Don were friends and he agreed to play the part as long as they didn't give him screen credit. At that time, movie actors didn't want to be asscoiated with Television because it was thought to be a come down.

Thanks, Jo Jo!! I remember seeing that episode as a kid and noticing the "Rupert of Rathskeller" as Himself in the credits.
Haven't thought about that in years, but I always thought that Rupert of Rathskeller was some kind of real royal person! I suppose that, with a show like Get Smart, it HAD to be some kind of a gag. I definitely wouldn't have recognized him as James Caan, I don't know Caan that well. But thanks for clearing up the mystery

Actually, James Caan just didn't want his name on the show because he did it as a joke. Caan wasn't a big film star back then; he was initially recognized for his appearance in the television film Brian's Song in 1971. And of course the name is a joke: Rupert is the assistant of Black Michael, the villain in The Prisoner of Zenda, which "The King Lives" was based on, and "Rathskellar" generally is a bar. (The pub at my college was called the Rathskellar)
