Yes, she was indeed a beautiful woman. So pretty in fact, that Gleason refused to hire her for the role of Alice after she auditioned because he said she was TOO pretty to play the part. So Audrey decided to have pictures taken of herself first thing the next morning, with her hair a mess, no make-up and wearing a house dress or robe. She sent the pics to Gleason, he saw them and said "Who is that girl?". He was then told it was the girl he refused to hire the day before at the audition. He then gave the order to hire her saying that "any dame who would go that far deserves the role!"

Yes, Audrey was gorgeous, I agree.
And so was her sister Jayne. A few years ago, when the Game Show Network was still pretty good, it would run (on Sunday evenings, "Black and White Sunday Night) the old "What's My Line" and "I've Got a Secret" shows, and Jayne Meadows was a regular on "I've Got a Secret". Man, she was something else...
Audrey and Jayne both were very beautiful and glamorous. And they both had more brains in the little pinkies that the "People Magazine's 50 most beautiful people" have in their 50 combined bodies...

Yes indeed! She was a hottie! VA-VA-VA-Voom! And what a talent she was. Anyone who could sing opera while standing on her head has to have talent. :)

I heard Audrey say once that when her agent showed Jackie her picture as a possible candidate for the role of Alice, he said "No, she's too pretty. That's not who I want for my Alice". But, when Audrey heard that, she wanted the role so bad, that she had a photographer come over first thing in the morning, after she just woke up and her hair was mussed, and she had no makeup on. She put on an old, torn bathrobe she had and had the guy take pictures of her with some dirty pots and pans. Then she had the pics. sent to Jackie. When he saw them, he said "She's PERFECT!! Who is she?" When told she was the girl he had turned down earlier, he laughed and said "Any dame who would go that far for a role, I just have to hire"!!
