This sitcom starring Roseanne as Lynn Hastins, a hardworking single mother of two grown girls. Lynn lives in Chicago with her two daughters: the 23 year old Amanda Hastins (Leslie Bibb) and the 22 year old Rachel Hastins (Carly Pope). Amanda and Rachel live in their own Chicago studio apartment together. Lynn's husband just up and left her and their girls about ten years ago. The overprotective Lynn works as a bookkeeper for a local grocery store. Lynn is often with her co-worker/best friend, Audrey Wilson(Joy Behar). The fashion maven Amanda works for a famous model agent, Jackie Nolan (Sheryl Lee Ralph) as her assistant. The drama queen Rachel works for a popular art gallery owner, Brian Carter (Steven Weber) as the art gallery's hostess. Rachel is having a secret affair with her married boss, Brian. Follow the Hastins women's lives which are full of trials and tribulations.

Episodes

Ep1: Pilot Episode:
Amanda gets a promotion and a raise, she is now her boss's new assistant. Amanda decides to take Lynn, Rachel, and Audrey out to celebrate. While at dinner, Rachel witnesses her boss, Brian and his wife, Shelly (Julia Campbell) out to eat at same restaurant with their two children.

Ep2: Dilemmas:
Lynn realizes one of the store's cashier is $20 short in their till. Lynn unfortunely has to confront the cashier, Katie (Hilary Duff)-who begins to feel attacked and breaks down in a crying jag. Meanwhile, Audrey gives Rachel unethical advice for when dating a married man.

Ep3: Cousin Knows Daddy:
Lynn's ex's niece, Kim (Leslie Grossman) drops by for the weekend. Kim, Amanda, and Rachel hit the bars and have a great time at remincising. It's all fun and games, until Kim mentions that their MIA dad (her uncle) is moved back in town recently. Rachel wants to change subject, but Amanda wants to have Kim tell them more about where he is and other stuff. The sisters get into it big time.

Ep4: Casino, Here We Come:
Lynn and Audrey head to the casino. While Lynn becomes obsessed with winning, Audrey befriends Jackie (who has no idea that Audrey is Amanda's mom's best friend, yet Audrey knows who she is though) while at the slots machines. Meanwhile, Rachel finds a piece of paper in her sister's purse with the address and phone number of her and Amanda's dad on it. Rachel brings it to her sister's attention that she knows. Rachel and Amanda have a sisterly talk and finally end up on agreeing that they should go together and meet their dad after ten years of his absence.

Ep5: Preoccupied:
Lynn's daughters keep her unaware of them making plans on visiting their long-absented father. Meanwhile, Audrey finds out about Lynn having a "lunch date" with a successful real estate agent, Ted (Patrick Duffy). Audrey pumps Lynn dry when searching for details from her and Ted's lunch date.

Ep6: Meeting Dad...Or Lack There Of:
Rachel and Amanda wound up on the doorstep of their dad's house, yet they have second-thoughts at first--which causes another sisterly argument. Yet they decide to go ahead and meet him after all the years. The girls's dad, Tony (Tony Danza) is stunned at how his daughters have grown. Tony invites them both out to dinner with himself, his wife, and twin 6-year-olds (Cody and Chad). Only problem is his wife, Emily (Elizabeth Perkeley) is only 28 years old, which is five years older than Amanda. Meanwhile, Lynn accepts Ted's offer for a second date.
