NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - A resurgent "ER" delivered a powerful shot in the arm to NBC's primetime Thursday lineup, giving the network a strong win in the key demographic targeted by advertisers.
ER averaged 15.4 million viewers and a 6.7 rating/18 share among adults 18-49, according to preliminary data released Friday by Nielsen Media Research. That was enough to win its 10 p.m. time period against a repeat "Without a Trace" (14 million, 4.2/11) over at CBS and ABC's "Primetime" (9.2 million, 3.1/8).
Opposite repeats of "CSI: Miami" and "CSI," NBC was able to do pretty well in the demo. In its second Thursday run, "My Name is Earl" averaged 12.5 million viewers and a 5.9/15 at 9 p.m. "The Office" followed "Earl" with 10.3 million viewers and a 5.1/12. CBS's "CSI" averaged 17.7 million viewers and a 5.4/13 in the demo.
ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" dominated in total viewers at 8 p.m., averaging 15.4 million, and building to 18.3 million in its last half hour at 9 p.m. That was higher than any other show in the time period, although it wasn't as strong in the demo, going from a 3.9/11 to a 4.9/12. "Crumbs," the Jane Curtain-William Devane midseason replacement comedy, averaged 9 million viewers and a 3.6/14 in the demo.
At 8 p.m., a live "Will & Grace" averaged 9.6 million viewers and a 4.4/12 in the demo. The second episode of "Four Kings" did marginally better than its premiere, averaging 9.1 million viewers and a 4.5/12 in the demo.
It was welcome news at NBC, which has only had one Thursday primetime win in the season and its highest average in the demo since last May.
