Although it has been around for over fifty-five years, Mort Walker's BEETLE BAILEY comic strip has never been adapted into a live-action motion picture (or a live-action television series, for that matter). There was a short-lived,
syndicated animated series, in 1963 (Howard Morris was Beetle's voice and
Allan Melvin was Sarge). The strip is still popular; why not a big-screen movie?

My dream cast would be: Ray Romano as Beetle, Kevin James as Sarge,
Donna D'Errico as Miss Buxley, French Stewart as Zero, Charlie Sheen as
Killer, and Dick Van Dyke as General Halftrack.

I don't think it would work today, times have changed and so has the audience. Popeye, The Flintstones, and Fat Albert didn't do well. I'd be happy if they released Beetle, Snuffy Smith, and the Popeye of the 60's on dvd. Remember the cartoon with the mouse that would throw a brick at the cat, who was in love with him?

Yes, I remember that cartoon. You're thinking of KRAZY KAT (a classic comic
strip created by George Herriman way back in 1913). Trivia note: the mouse's name was Ignatz; and Herriman was probably the first black cartoonist. Oddly,
Krazy's gender was never specified (although, in the animated cartoons, he/she
was voiced by a woman (Penny Phillips)).

THAT'S IT!! I was racking my brain trying to think of the name, cause they haven't shown it since the late 60's or early 70's.

Krazy Kat, Barney Google & Snuffy Smith, and Beetle Bailey were the components of a syndicated 1963 package titled KING FEATURES TRILOGY.
For the record, the versatile Paul Frees voiced Barney Google and Snuffy
Smith (based on characters created by Billy DeBeck and Fred Lasswell).

Offisah Pup was Krazy Kat's "police dog" protector who always locked up Ignatz in jail when he threw a brick. I read old copies of the comic and it was hilarious!!

Now these are the cartoons that need to be put on DVD to introduce a new generation to these classics.
