View Full Version : Do you agree that Gloria needed the Mike Character on her Spinoff from AITF/ABP

When i watched the Gloria Spinoff, i could never really get into it because it was so hard seeing her without Mike. I'm surprised the show did well in the ratings because it just seemed so incomplete without Mike Stivic. I think they both should have been spinned off after the 77-78 season once they left the show and have it called-"Mike and Gloria". But just Gloria by herself was not watchable to me

same here. I don't get why they had Mike divorce her. If Rob Reiner could not be in it they should have had Mike killed off.

I don't think Gloria was a strong enough character to be spun off her own show. I think it did well in the ratings out of mere curiosity. The show itself wasn't that strong.

I saw the pilot in a TV Land box set a few years ago and it was horrible. I don't understand how it was #18 in the Nielsens. I have never seen the episode when she was on Archie Bunkers Place when she announces she got divorced. What did she say was the reason?

Mike and Gloria were fun to watch together...but apart...not so much. I don't like that they got divorced.

No, it was explained Mike left Gloria for a Younger Woman in the first episode of Gloria. So he was never seen.

That is something Mike wouldn't do, that was an horrible explanation. Especially since they had Joey together, that would've been out of Mikes character.

actually Mike left Gloria to live with bunch of Hillbliies in a comium think that how u spell it and she did not want joey growing up in that kind of life so he left her and took the high school home coming queen with him.

Gloria needed the Mike character to play off of, the show was weak without Mike. After her show ended she should have went on ABP.

Yeah the odd thing was Gloria finished #18 and ABP finshed #22 when they were cancelled after the 1982-83 TV season

Nowadays networks would kill for a sitcom that is ranked #18.

The whole concept of the Series "Gloria" was so that Gloria would be on her own, as a single mom, Raising Joey. It would have been better with Mike. They shouldn't have done a spinoff with her anyway....................I think they axed Gloria, even though it was ranked higher than ABP because they didn't see much potential with it. What could they have done that wasn't done in the first season?? Nothing would have been different. ...Only my opinion though...

I don't think the Gloria character was able to go on without Mike. Same thing with Mike, I couldn't see him without Gloria just like it was hard for me to see Archie without Edith which is why ABP is not watchable to me.

The Mike character did appear on Gloria. It was the back of his head and it wasn't Rob Reiner, but he did show up.

I'm interested in seeing the show. Maybe Sony will release it. If they can do That's My Mama, Tabitha, and Action then they can release Gloria. I mean they are even giving us Archie Bunker's Place.

Didn't the opening credits of Gloria start out with her looking into a mirror or something?

Yup, at first she was looking into the Mirror and the picture was black and white and the it changed to color with her still looking in the Mirror
