Starring Justin Berfield and Frankie Muniz as brothers Reese and Malcolm Wilkerson, who have a past of never getting along have actually started getting along great lately. A week after Malcolm graduates from high school, 19-year-old Reese and 18-year-old Malcolm leave their parents (Hal and Lois), and their brothers (Francis, Dewey, and Jamie) back in Sacremento, California, as they plan to head to New York (nearby NYU). Reese and Malcolm are attending NYU as incoming freshman (Reese took a year off to "find himself"). Reese and Malcolm move into their very own studio apartment, they soon realize their apartment complex is on "the college side of the town" (where dorms, fraternities, sororities, and student apartments are). The brothers' apartment complex happens to be right in between a frat house (Kappa Gamma Kappa-KGK) and a sorority house (Delta Theda Zeta-DTZ). Reese and Malcolm are befriended by macho, KGK frat brother, Kyle Sanders (Billy Aaron Brown)-who can relate to them due to the fact, he came from the Sacremento area too. The guys are also befriended by two gorgeous DTZ sorority sisters, the fun-loving, fashionista herself-Chantel Morgan (Raven-Symone) and the sassy, party-girl-Lila Fitzgerald (Hailey Duff). Reese and Malcolm are shown around NYU's campus and New York itself by their new expert friends (Kyle, Lila, and Chantel). Throughout the spinoff, Reese and Malcolm will either be visiting or visited by Hal, Lois, Francis, and Dewey periodically (yet they are just recurring guest stars, not part of original cast).

Episodes

Ep1: Pilot Episode:
Reese and Malcolm decide to look into moving out of the house and into their own place--in New York. Lois, Hal, and Dewey are shocked when they announce they're moving to New York and attending NYU. Francis flies home after hearing the news of his brothers moving. Hal and Lois take the whole family out to eat for one more farewell dinner. Meanwhile, Reese and Malcolm start and finish packing.

Ep2: New York, Here We Come:
Reese and Malcolm board their flight to New York, while on the plane-they realize their seats aren't together. Malcolm is stuck next to a screaming infant. Reese is stuck between a bickering elderly couple. They finally land in NY and arrive to their new apartment.

Ep3: New Neighbors:
They get settled into their apartments. They realize their apartment complex is in between a frat house and a sorority house. Reese and Malcolm meet their new friends- Kyle, Lila, and Chantel. Kyle invites the brothers and the girls to his frat house for a party. The five kids-and others-have a blast at the party.

Ep4: Registration Day:
They all go register for classes. Turns out, they have one another in several classes throughout the semester. Malcolm overhears Kyle on the phone with his long-distance girlfriend (Heather, from UCLA) as they get into a huge fight over the phone-causing them to break off the relationship.

Ep5: Hotties With Nice Bodies:
Chantel and Lila invite Reese, Kyle, and Malcolm over to meet their sorority sisters. The guys are in complete awe of how gorgeous (and somewhat scantily-clad) the fellow sisters are. Kyle, Malcolm, and Reese make a bet to see who can get the most phone numbers in 24 hrs, yet Lila and Chantel overhear the bet and devise a plan to sabotage their bet with help from the other girls.

Ep6: Older Boys, Older Girls:
Chantel begins dating her new older boyfriend, Tim (Deon Richmond)-who is 25 compared to her 19. Meanwhile, Malcolm begins to "have the hots" for Lauren (Mena Suvari)-who happens to be his Chemistry partner. Lila knows a "rumor" about Malcolm's Chem partner, Lauren-but isn't sure if she should tell Malcolm or not.

Ep7: Riveting Rivals:
Lila's longtime rival, Brooke (Megan Fox) shows up at NYU after transferring from Columbia. Reese makes the mistake of calling Brooke "hot" in front of Lila-who snaps at Reese and becomes anything but silent. Meanwhile, Kyle sees Lila all fired-up, and thinks Lila is sexy when all fired up like that.
