Donna Summer tops everyone in my book.

yes, she was the undisputed queen of disco, and unlike most of the genre, she continued a successful career long after her rival artists had fallen from grace.

The best reason to hate disco:

"Disco Duck" by Rick Dees and his appropriately named Cast of Idiots.

:eek2:

Bear in mind that this comment has no racist subtext. Rick Dees is a white guy.

So, by the way, is Harry Wayne Casey, :barf: the leader of K.C. . . . and the Sunshine. . . Band!

BTW, I know that rock can be silly. Just consider "Rock 'n' Roll Rabbit" by. . .by. . . by. . . oh, that's right, there is no such record! :p

An immodest proposal - after the album of country and western versions of AC/DC songs called Hayseed Dixie, how about a bluegrass cover album of K.C. songs by. . . K.C. and the Moonshine Band?

Why does Donna Summer moan a lot on Love To Love You Baby song? I didn't become a fan of her's until She Works Hard For The Money song came out. Donna is a attractive woman though. I saw her on VH1 recently because she's been on tour lately. She's gotten kinda fat. I was listening to Sister Sledge's We Are Family song today. I love that song. Chic were the disco kings. Chic had so many disco hits.

Donna was, ummm, pleasuring herself when recording that song, according to urban legend.

Donna goes up and down in weight. She was particularly hefty about 2 years ago but she's lost a bit of weight, probably because she's got a new album coming before too long (kinda like Janet always slims down in time to release an album).

Chic were great too, a shame they didn't follow Donna's lead in continuing success after the disco backlash, they had a lot of songs like Chip Off The Old Block and Soup For One in the early 1980's that should've been much bigger hits than they really were.

The one and only KINGS of Disco

Okay. Just like Elvis is the one and only king of rock and roll, right?

The TRUE kings of disco are Baker-Harris-Young. You know who they are, if you know disco.

When disco was big I was a teenager and it was uncool to like disco, so I kept it to myself. Now I love hearing those old songs.

I liked Earth Wind and Fire, but I never liked "Boogie Wonderland" with the Emotions. Becasue it was disco. In fact, here's a rule of thumb I have for seventies dance music -

If I don't like it, it's disco.

If I do like it, it's funk.

Chic's "Le Freak" is disco. Earth, Wind and Fire's "September" is funk. You get the general idea. :)

Both Donna and Giorgio Moroder say that's not true. But who knows for certain? I personally believe it's not true..

I've heard stories both ways. But I do think that since Donna's a Christian now, she probably doesn't wanna talk about it, I am surprised she has brought the song back to her live act after 25 years of refusing to do it.

Donna was awesome, such a shame a number of gay men who couldn't handle the thought that one of their favorites was a Christian had to spread a nasty rumor that caused her to plummet off the chart. Cats Without Claws and All Systems Go would've both been far more successful if it didn't have "the rumor" like a dark cloud over them, at least she was able to pick up steam with Another Place And Time.

Donna refused to perform Love To Love You Baby song for 25 years? Damn. She doesn't wanna perform it because she's a christian now? The song does sound like it's very sexual. Does she talk about sex a lot on the song? I've never heard the song all the way through. I only heard the part in the song when she was moanin a lot. The producer of the record said he dimmed the lights low in the studio when she recorded that song. I wonder why. Is Donna Summer married?

I wonder if she stopped performing "Bad Girls" and "MacArthur Park" then...

Nope, you have to think about that time in her life as well. She was a drug user and very depressed during the 'Love To Love You Baby' era.

she did both Bad Girls and MacArthur Park on her "Live And More Encore" album from 1999. She still does Dim All The Lights but now leaves out the "dirty" line of the song, "turn my brown body white".

"Turn my brown body white?" I never heard that lyric! :eek2:

(Kind of ironic, a line like that coming from a black woman who's been married to two white guys! )

Yes Donna is married to the former member of "Brooklyn Dreams". A singing trio I believe. He sang the male part on "heaven knows". They have a daughter that played the pregnant girlfriend on "My wife and kids". They made the lights dim in the studio so Donna could get into the mood for recording the song. Donna's real last name was Somer, but when the first deejay that played her record (he was of german descent) he pronounced her last name as Summer. The rest is history.
