LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Oscar winner Charlize Theron is set to add some star power to Fox's "Arrested Development" when its third season debuts next month.

Theron has signed on to guest-star in five episodes of the critically acclaimed black comedy, playing a British woman who becomes the love interest of "Development" star Jason Bateman. Theron will debut in the second "Development" episode of the season, after its September 19 premiere.

Theron earned a best actress Oscar last year for her portrayal of a serial killer in "Monster." She also is up for Emmy honors this year for her co-starring role in the HBO biopic "The Life and Death of Peter Sellers," in which she played actress Britt Ekland.

On the feature side, Theron recently wrapped production on "Aeon Flux," a live-action adaptation of the MTV animated series. In the fall, she will be seen opposite Frances McDormand and Sissy Spacek in Warner Bros. Pictures' drama "North Country." Theron's other recent credits include 2003's "The Italian Job" and 2004's "Head in the Clouds

I think this is great news! Arrested Development always make great use of their guest stars, and Charlize Theron is a pretty hot commodity in Hollywood right now. This might even pull in some more viewers!

Read this little tidbit:
08/31 - From what I've heard about the story, there's a huge — and potentially controversial — twist with Theron's character.

Insteresting...

Here's a viewer's theory that I read the other day at the Goldderby forums; it seems plausible to me:

Rita isn't the teacher, she's a preschool student. So many clues point to it... Rita saying "No, I'm good." after Michael's line about kids acting up... Rita's father, I'm guessing, asking Michael how he'd like it if he "went after someone stupid in your family" ... her demeanor in general was childish and slow. Also she was wearing a backpack and was more than just assisting the kids with that fingerpainting.

P.S. Is the episode's definitive title "For British Eyes Only"?

Episode 2 was For British Eyes Only. Apparently the other title I got was changed.

Also I think that was all pretty obvious in the epsiode but I think there is more. Remember when Michael was walking down the sidewalk and they said "he remembered something from his past" then he was hit by Mary Poppins? I'm thinking he remembered her from his past. I'm thinking she is somehow going to be related to the Bluths. (maybe a half-sister?) That would be a twist.

Apparently she didn't do much for the ratings. Now we have to pray that Scott Baio brings in some soccer moms (with nielson boxes), otherwise this show won't even last the entire season.

War at Home and Kitchen Confidential are absolute crap. I swear, if those shows last past this year, and AD gets the ax, I'm tossing my tv out the window.

If there was any justice in this world, AD would last as long as Malcolm in the Middle and King of the Hill have lasted. There's so many different directions this show can go in, and we'll never have the opportunity to see it come to fruition.

Well after looking at the ratings for the premiere, I just hope it makes it through the season.

I think it'll make the complete season. I mean it may not have a high number of viewers, but i think their loyal viewers will pull through for the show.
