DO YOU PREFER 12 INCH VERSIONS OR SHORT VERSIONS OF SONGS?

I always prefer 12 inch version because I feel like I am missing out on something. To me it's like buying a DVD and your favorite show is all edited. As we all know on these forums, we hate edited stuff. So to me, it's the same with music, I don't want a cut-up version.

You may need to explain to some of the younger members what a 12 inch is, that may be before some people's time. But to answer your question, yes I always prefer longer, complete and unedited versions of songs.

12" came from the vinyl era of music. I remember buying my first 12" song. It was Rappers Delight by Sugar Hill Gang. There is the short version of the song, and then there is the full song (14 mins.). The 14 minute song is the 12" version. It's like buying a maxi-single.

I love remixes, but the 12" mixes of the 70's and 80's are so much different then the house/club mixes of the 90's and today. Most of those mixes make them completely new songs sometimes good, sometimes bad, but mostly the old 12" mixes were longer versions of a song.

You are so right. I prefer the older 12" versions of songs. Madonna and Prince have some awesome extended versions of their songs. I dig on remixes as well. My favorite remix is "Alright" by Janet Jackson w/Heavy D.

I have a few like "You Are My Lady" by Freddie Jackson, "Never Let You Go" by Sweet Sensation, "Think" by Information Society, "I Like What You're Doing to Me" by Young & Co., "Angel" by Madonna and "Always" by Atlantic Starr. I used to have my first 12" single was "Rapper's Delight" by the Sugarhill Gang. That song I used to have since I was a kid along with "Candy Girl" by New Edition. That was also on a 12" single. I missed 12" singles. I would go to a flea market and get it. That brings back memories.

actually, 12" singles are still alive and kicking in the dance community, a lot of titles will come out on vinyl but not CD. If you go to a specialty store that still sells vinyl, you'll see recent 12" singles by people like Destiny's Child, Madonna, Mariah, J. Lo, etc...

yeah, those little record shops can special order those for you if you don't find them. We have a little record store that specializes in vinyl, cassettes and old school music, oldies, 12" etc. I just love that store.

Some songs are overdone as extended versions, while some songs are better as the extended version.
