Ok, since I was pretty much on my own with liking The Wall more than Dark Side of the Moon, I figured I'd venture into another Pink Floyd album debate.
When my friends and I first started listening to Floyd way back in the day, we were heavily into The Wall, DSOTM and Wish You Were Here. Animals we listened to a bit of and it was pretty much remarked that it was a weaker album, one that was thrown together. But when we started to play it more and more we were blown away and became enamored of it.
In retrospect though, I have to go with Wish You Were Here as the better of the two- a more accomplished, polished, and complete album. Everyone in the band gets to show their stuff. And though I am not a big fan of 20 minute songs, "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" is fantastic, a song that draws you in and never lets go, always building upon itself.
Animals is still a great album (lyrically biting, musically its own entity), but listening to it now it sounds like Roger Waters being really pissed off at the world and dragging the band along.
