Bacall Rips Cruise's 'Vulgar' Behavior
1 hour, 21 minutes ago
NEW YORK - Lauren Bacall has a few unkind words to say about Tom Cruise. In an interview in the Aug. 8 issue of Time magazine, now on newsstands, the 80-year-old actress says, "When you talk about a great actor, you're not talking about Tom Cruise."
"His whole behavior is so shocking," she says. "It's inappropriate and vulgar and absolutely unacceptable to use your private life to sell anything commercially, but I think it's kind of a sickness."
Bacall was alluding to Cruise's displays of emotion and public courting of Katie Holmes in the weeks leading up to the release of his new film, "War of the Worlds." Cruise and Holmes became engaged in June after he proposed at the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
Last fall, Bacall made similar remarks about Cruise's ex-wife Nicole Kidman, her co-star in "Birth." While promoting the movie, Bacall became irritated when an interviewer described Kidman as "a legend."
"She's not a legend," Bacall said. "She can't be a legend at whatever age she is. ... You have to be older."
"Private Screenings: Lauren Bacall" and a marathon of Bacall's films were to air Monday on TCM.

Bacall is the last of those who knows what it means to be a star. I am glad she is so outspoken when it comes to the new crop of Hollywood so called actors and stars. Remeber, Bacall was married to Hollywood elite.

Bacall's right in what she said- although I think Nicole Kidman is a great actress (although she hasn't picked challenging roles recently she has shown as early as 'To Die For' right up to 'Birth', 'Dogville' and 'The Hours' that she has great talent- her turn as Diane Arbus in 'Fur' will be a return to form), she can't be called a legend yet.
Many actors and actresses were huge in their own time, but a legend is an actor that stands the test of time- how many people name Greer Garson or Tyrone Power as legends? It's always James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, Greta Garbo, Audrey Hepburn and Katharine Hepburn named as legends. If Kidman gets a huge signature role she'll likely stand the test of time.

Ummm, are we convieniently forgetting that at 19 Bacall was a homewrecker who married a man 30 years her senior? Hardly "proper" behavior. ( Actresses who live in glass houses, shouldnt throw stones )

So what if she married the guy when she was 19 and he was 30 years older. Humphrey Bogart was hot.

These "little" nobody actors of today will never measure up to Bacall, Bogart, etc. Humphrey Bogart once said of Bacall(when he first met her) "She's a real Joe" which was a very high compliment of which she treasured.
Yay Lauren! Cut them down to size! :clap
Compared to them........... Tom Cruise is a nobody!

Dont get me wrong, fellow Canuck, Im a HUGE fan of Bogies ( My all-time fave actor ) , but, i think Bacall should remember that many people said the same kinds of things about her when she ruined Bogies marriage way back when...She shouldnt condemn others, glass houses and all that, thats all i was saying.

So true! But at least they didn'y flaunt their behavior and didn't try to push their causes(Scientology) on people! Cruise really thinks that he is something doesn't he?
