Fleet should love this thread - I can't wait for Halloween so let's start getting in the mood and post some memorable pics of Halloween's past!

Here's one of when we did a "Carribana" theme and turned the upstairs offices into a West Indian parade of colourful costumes. I'm on the left and was supposed to be a peacock (although you can't see my plumage in that pic). The credit manager was the Hula Girl and an accountant in the one of the actual costumes used in the parade.

Halloween pictures in July? I thought I was bad!

Anyway, here's a few to hold you over for a while:
(The Wandering Spirit in the top photo and the Phantom Organist in the bottom photo- on the right side.)

Boy you sure must scare the hell out of the neighbourhood kids! I know I freaked out a few as Alice Cooper last year (which I had got some pics of it - even my husband said I looked just like him)!

Here's my Killer Bee - you can see the wings in the 2nd pic.

Here's the year we did Star Trek. I came as one of those "dispensible" characters who die before the end of the ep. Even our co. president got in the fun as Spock!

I don't think Spock had green ears! But a Star Trek theme was a good idea.

BTW, the photos I posted were not at my house (but I do set up a display in the garage). Those pics were from the Hallowed Haunting Grounds...

Oh really? I'll have to check that out. That candelabra looked like it was right off the Phantom set!
We did all kinds of themes each year - Star Trek, Jurassic Park, Wizard of Oz, Salute to Hollywood, Flintstones, The Circus - you name it. Yah - those bright green ears were a riot!

Our company was great - they'd let us take the afternoon before off and decorate our offices and then would have a panel of judges who went around and we'd win plaques, free dept. lunches, etc. It was really good for team building and morale. I won one year for Most Original Costume - a cat's hairball (pic below - boy was it hot in "funfur") and then Funniest (as a Sales Analyst Nerd).

That website has a lot of good photos. Some with time exposure cameras so the props could be seen better in the dark.

Two questions: Who was the T-Rex in Jurrassic Park and who was Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz? :D

I sure wish the company I work at would be as easygoing as yours. If I asked to take the afternoon off to decorate, I would just get a blank stare as if to say, "Are you crazy?" :(

Getting the answers to your questions in a couple of minutes... ;)

Do you guys have any plans for Halloween? What sorts of stuff do you like to do?

 Yah, it helped that is was a greeting card company so it was kind of in keeping with the business.
I was Dorothy in the Wizard - I wish I had more pics of it - I have it on video as we re-inacted the whole movie! It took the entire upper floor of the building - 4 depts.!
The T-Rex was great - it even moved. So did the raptor you see - it spit "silly string"!

It was a TON of fun. You could forget working at all that da - we'd all just run around visiting all the depts. and partying! I was always exhausted after!
Here's when they did "Grease" - the one in the polkadots is on roller skates!

Wow... those were really well-done! It must have taken quite a while to set up the Jurrassic Park one.
And you looked enough like Dorothy to be convincing. Maybe you will be hired to star in a remake!

Yah, it took a couple of weeks of solid work behind the scenes to do each dept. We'd work after hours on them or at home and assemble all the stuff on the day before. I wish I had pics of the "soldiers" at the witch's castle in the Wizard - they were really well done. I lucked out and found a "Dorothy" dress at the local Salvation Army store and had red satin shoes (from a wedding). I even had a stuffed Cairn terrier in that basket - I was going to bring in one of my pomeranians, but it would have been too much excitment and tough to control.
People would even bring in their kids for the day sometimes. The kids loved it!
Here's some more random shots.

I can't believe the costumes you guys come up with... popcorn!

Let me make a suggestion... if possible, set up a room or area for a "haunted house." Hang up some white sheets, set up blacklights, spiderwebs, skeletons, etc.

Pus$y Galore

Actually the I.T. department did the haunted house thing. Again, I have it on video - it was too dark to photograph. Rather than white sheets, they used black garbage bags. It was REALLY good! One guy even brought in a real casket - an uncle was a funeral director!

I do that though with the sheets, webs, blacklights, sound system, dry ice and all at home each year now. Last year I had Alice Cooper blasting out front, dressed up like him and even had a "gallows" set up. One little guy (around 8) knew right off who Alice Cooper was so I gave him about 6 chocolate bars for being raised well! I make the kids work for their treats too and have some fun with them. I'm a big kid at heart when allowed, and that's what Halloween's all about!

It took me almost a month to make that popcorn costume - I dont' know how much paint! It was a nightmare to walk in.

I'm starting to get ideas together for this year. I may do Ozzy Osbourne or David Bowie (in his Ziggy Startdust days), but I'm afraid hardly any kids will recognize that now.

Those "ghost dogs" look really good!

Speaking of Halloween, yesterday I checked a local party store to see if they started to put up any Halloween displays and was surprised to see in the back of the store the same Halloween area I saw last year! The same black curtains were hanging there, a counter and in one lane, Halloween-type costumes. It seems they have a Halloween section ALL YEAR! My kind of store. :happyface

However, there were no Halloween props for sale in any other lanes; that comes later this month.

Fleet, why do you like Halloween so much? I think it's a cool holiday myself, but I'd like to hear your reasons for being such a fan of Halloween. :)

Have you alway loved it?

Please - be my guest and post them! I love seeing Halloween pics!! I'm such a kid when it comes to it! I dressed up last year as Alice Cooper just to hand out candy! If I hadn't just thought about doing it that day, I would have built gallows and taken a pic!

For a few reasons.
- Most people think of ghosts when they think of Halloween and ghosts are still a big mystery. Even today, there are many unexplained "ghost" photos (such as those on ghoststudy.com).

- The better of the Halloween shows (Haunted Houses) make you wonder how they do the effects. Like the main one I go to (Hallowed Haunting Grounds)- they use motors and projection systems, among other things, for real-looking effects.
You look at a yard at Christmas and, while it's nice to look at the lights, there is no mystery as to how a prop is set up or how it's run. With Halloween props (when properly done), it leaves you wondering how they did that. Like a ghost that keeps disappearing and reappearing or a coffin that moves or makes noises.

I've always liked Halloween, but I like it more now. Maybe because I can drive over to all the Halloween yard displays in my area- something I couldn't do when I was 12 years old. I can also afford to buy Halloween props and equipment unlike 30 years ago.

No, I can get that anytime.
Years ago, though, candy was a big part of it. :D
