Is Guy Lombardo a possible candidate for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Here are the pros and cons:
Pros:
He played Jones Beach out on Long Island long before Chicago or .38 Special did.
His music is no less schmaltzy than that of Billy Joel or Phil Collins.
He was Canadian.
Louis Armstrong dug him. (Honest to goodness!)
He was the "civilized" alternative to Dick Clark's "New Year's Rockin' Eve" every December 31, and his Royal Canadians kept playing on CBS every New Year's Eve for five ort six years after he died!
Cons:
He was a favorite of people who hated Elvis Presley back in the fifties.
Who wants "civilized" music on New Year's Eve?
Lawrence Welk rocked harder than Guy did.
Guy never appeared on Jimmy O'Neil's "Shindig."
What do you think? :D
