Just a few weeks ago my computer got a trojan virus. I knew that in order to get rid of the virus, I would have to redo Windows XP again, and this would cause me to lose all my files. So, I burned all my files onto a CD when my computer was still infected. My computer is now fixed and fine, but my question is, is it okay for me to put the files back onto my computer? This may sound like a stupid question, but I wanted to know if the files are infected and if I put the CD into my computer, would my computer get infected again? Thanks to anyone who can help me out!

you need to scan that entire cd (and anything else you put on your computer) with an up-to-date antivirus program BEFORE you put those files back on - if ANY of them are infected, you will definately get the Trojan again.

You should probably also clean out any emails you have in Hotmail or Yahoo etc... in case they are infected as well.

Thanks! I have Norton AntiVirus, would that work in scanning the CD, and if so, how would I do that?

you should be able to scan the cd in one of two ways:

right click on the drive in MyComputer with the disk in the drive and click on Scan with Nortoon Antivirus, or

from the Norton Antivirus main Control center, click on Drives, folders... and select the drive

the problem is that if is burned to a cdr, Norton won't be able to "clean" the file, you will have to copy the file to your hard drive and try to clean it, or just delete the infected files

Alright, I did as you said, and it said that none of the files were infected. So it is safe to put the files back onto the computer, am I correct?

yep - as long as your Antivirus is up-to-date, it should be :D
