I found it boring. I'm suspecting there will be a big dropoff next week. Still... that's a lot better than I was expecting.

Its the one I chose (over that stupid Ashton thing about Geeks). Probably a big reason for the good ratings - there was just nothing else on at 9 last night!

It wasn't bad - yea, maybe a little boring but it was kinda fun seeing Holyfield out there - and he wasn't too bad considering he's a heavyweight boxer!!! It could certainly hold his own on a regular dancefloor!

I'd like to take a bazooka to the judges tho! Especially that snobby British guy <bitch slaps the old geezer >

A good sign is that the show built in its second half hour -- meaning viewers liked what they saw. The first episode reairs again Sunday at 7pm.

 I've never heard of her before (don't watch the soapies), but I thought he was going to throw her right across the dancefloor like that judge said!! She was waaay too tiny and light for her partner!

I knew "Peterman" would ham it up good though! And was actually fairly impressed with Rachel Hunter's performance!! For a big tall girl, she did look quite graceful - considering she'd been hugging the Porcelain God all night long beforehand! ;)

WOW... maybe I was wrong. Afterall, over on the Zap2It boards I did predict ABC to be in 4th at 9pm... oh and I missed Supernanny winning 8pm. What a huge dropoff for the Lost repeat though.

I saw it, it wasn't too bad. I thought it was going to be cheesy. It is not something I would watch often, only if there was nothing else on, and last night, not much was on. :D

Episode 2 grew from episode 1. ABC has yet another hit!

“Dancing with the Stars” (9:00-10:00 p.m.) Surging from its solid lead-in and gaining audience throughout its telecast, ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” was again a dominant No. 1 in its time period. From 9:00-10:00 p.m., “Dancing with the Stars” beat its closest competition by 7.2 million viewers (14.9 million vs. 7.7 million - NBC) and by 96% among Adults 18-49 (4.7/14 vs. 2.4/7 - CBS).

* “Dancing with the Stars” stood as the No. 1 TV show of the night across all relevant demographic categories, including Total Viewers, Adults 25-54, Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34, Teens 12-17 and Kids 2-11.

* Growing from its week-earlier debut telecast by 1.4 million viewers and by 9% among Adults 18-49, the second airing of “Dancing with the Stars” drew ABC’s largest summertime audience in the time period since September 1995, nearly 10 years ago (since 9/13/95). The show matched ABC’s strongest Adult 18-49 performance in the hour during a summer frame in close to 6 years (9/1/99).

Impressive.

I bet we see this back in the Fall or at Mid-Season. If the rumored Alias pushback to January is true, then they could have another season for a few weeks then(November Sweeps anyone?). If it got anywhere close to those numbers, it'd be a competitive 2nd behind Survivor.

The finale was huge last night. 21.8 million average. 14.0/23 rating and a 6.5 adult 18-49 rating. The 9:30pm half hour had 23.5 million viewers. I'm sure we'll see this again in November or the winter.

WASN'T SHE???!!! My husband sat down just as she was to go on last night (its the first he's watched any of it) and she blew his mind! Mine too! She really did deserve to win it! John O'Hurley was very good from the beginning, but to think she came from not being able to handle spins to that - wow!

Good job. And I stuck it out and ended up enjoying the whole series. I'll tune in again if and when they do a second "season".

Quite the surprise hit! (I'd like to hear what JT would say about her now too)

Let's keep in mind it *could* get even higher ratings in the Fall or Winter with more people at home. WOW... incredible.

Oh and even *I* tuned in for the show... :p

Yowza! ABC's lucky this year! This is the comeback year NBC would probably sell Katie Couric for!

THE DANCING SHOES ARE GOING BACK ON, AS ABC

ANNOUNCES THE RETURN OF “DANCING WITH THE STARS”

The Dazzling Summer Hit Is Set to Return for Midseason

“Dancing with the Stars” will return to the ABC Television Network in 2006 as a midseason series with all new episodes, it was announced today by Stephen McPherson, president, ABC Entertainment. The series will continue to be produced by BBC Worldwide Productions, creators of the British hit show, “Strictly Come Dancing,” on which the ABC show was based. Richard Hopkins and Conrad Green are executive producers.

“’Dancing’ has played a pivotal role in a great summer season for ABC,” said McPherson. “The show is tremendous fun, perfect for our brand and a wonderful boost for our schedule. Having ‘Dancing’ and ‘Brat Camp’ both emerge this summer as assets for the future gives us great upside down the line.”

The series pairs celebrities with professional ballroom dancers. The couples train in such dances as the Viennese Waltz, the Rumba, the Cha-Cha-Cha and the Tango, and then compete in front of a studio audience – and a live national television audience. They are judged by a panel of experts, as well as by viewers at home, with one couple being eliminated each week.

“I love everything about this show,” said Andrea Wong, executive vice president, Alternative Programming, Specials and Late-Night, ABC Entertainment. “It was an odd left turn, so it’s especially gratifying to see it embraced by so many people.”

“We love it that the American public has gone crazy for ‘Dancing with the Stars,’” said Wayne Garvie, head of BBC Entertainment Group. “For the second season, we guarantee even more tears, tantrums and tangos than ever before.”

During its premiere season, “Dancing with the Stars” emerged as the biggest summer hit of 2005. The broad-appealing unscripted series ranked No. 1 in its Wednesday 9 o’clock time period among Total Viewers, across each of the key adult demos (Adults 18-34, Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54), as well as among Teens 12-17 and Kids 2-11. On average it towered over its closest competition in its hour (NBC) by 9.2 million viewers (16.8 million vs. 7.6 million) and by 143% in Adults 18-49 (5.1/15 vs. 2.1/6), and ranked as the No. 1 TV show on Wednesday night among viewers and young adults on all 6 of its telecasts.

The No. 1 TV series this summer, “Dancing with the Stars” also qualified as the most-watched summer series on any network in the last 5 years – since the inaugural season of “Survivor” in Summer 2000.

Before the next season starts in early 2006... there will be a rematch of the two finalists this fall on Sept. 20:

ONE GOOD TURN DESERVES ANOTHER! ACTOR JOHN O'HURLEY AND SOAP STAR KELLY MONACO WILL GO TOE-TO-TOE ONCE AGAIN IN A LIVE BALLROOM COMPETITION DANCE-OFF

America Will Decide Who the Winner Is, with Results to Be Announced During a September 22nd Telecast

In the spirit of good-natured competition, champion Kelly Monaco and her professional dance partner, Alec Mazo, will meet runner-up John O'Hurley and his professional partner Charlotte Jorgensen, once again on the dance floor. "Dancing with the Stars: Dance-off" airs TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 20 (8:30-10:00 p.m., ET, LIVE on the East Coast/tape delayed to the West) on the ABC Television Network.

Audiences were dazzled by John and Charlotte's elegant waltzes and raved at Kelly and Alec's spicy Latin dances, resulting in a thrilling and hotly debated finale. For this special event, both champ and runner-up have agreed to reunite for one more electrifying showdown!

The dance-off will feature each couple performing several styles of dance -- Latin, ballroom and freestyle. Our colorful and animated judges will return to give their critiques, but only viewers' votes will count... America will truly decide the winner of the dance-off. Viewers are invited to weigh in with their votes via phones and the internet immediately following the broadcast on the 20th. And unlike the series, they won't have to wait a week to learn the results of their votes. This time, results will be announced during a separate telecast which will air on THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 22 (9:00-9:30 p.m. ET).

In addition to more fabulous costumes and the sensational live band, also included in the special will be dance demonstrations by the professional dancers from the series: Ashly Delgrosso, Jonathan Roberts, Edyta Sliwinska and Louis van Amstel.

The six week run of the first American version of "Dancing with the Stars" emerged as the biggest summertime hit of 2005. It was the most-watched summer series on any network in the last five years, averaging over 16 million viewers. The show consistently ranked No.1 in it's time period among Total Viewers and across each of the key demos (Adults 18-34, Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54), as well as among Teens 12-17 and Kids 2-11.

"Dancing with the Stars" is the U.S. version of the international smash hit series, "Strictly Come Dancing." "Dancing with the Stars: Dance-off" is produced in America by BBC Worldwide. Richard Hopkins (UK) and Conrad Green (USA) are executive producers. Izzie Pick is supervising producer. Alex Rudzinski directs.
