After reading the article about you in Newsweek, I felt that I understood your philosophy much better, and I certainly agree that striving to be a size 2 to satisfy the paparazzi is unrealistic. However, knowing that you have such a huge preteen African-American and Hispanic fan base, why not become more of a fitness role model for these girls, many of whom have weight problems due cultural ideals and strive to send a message about more healthful eating? As an African-American woman, I love soul food as much as the next sistah, but recognize that eating a steady diet of fatty foods is a no-no, and moderation is critical for a better quality of life. It is not my intention to be critical, but in last few years it's clear that you've picked up a few pounds. Do you see yourself having a "ah ha" moment and shedding those extra pounds while you're still young? :mad:

Thanks for your comments, Miss Janine. I travel all over the world, and know I am a realistic representation of young women everywhere. Like most people, I eat, and I especially enjoy creating great meals for my family and friends. And I agree with you that exercise and balance is important for everyone (I work out three times a week, mixing it up with boxing, cardio and dancing). Most importantly, I would never want to tell girls that they need to starve themselves or use drugs to be skinny. I feel strongly that girls need to hear that no matter what your body type is--whether it's naturally skinny or naturally thicky-thick--what really matters is who you are, what you believe in, what you stand for and how you treat others. On my TV show, we have shown kids that having a strong sense of self-worth is a blessing and also that a steady diet of junk food isn't healthy (that specific show hasn't aired yet but it's coming up in September I think).

Hi, Alexia, Lindsay and I met at a photo shoot for a magazine. When I turned 18, my parents were OK with me getting my own apartment and at the same time, Lindsay's mom didn't want her staying in hotels in Los Angeles when she was on the West Coast. So we rented an apartment (not a penthouse) together but her schedule blew up, and she spent a total of about three nights there so we decided it wasn't fair for her to pay rent and moved out.

Not that long ago, I was in a restaurant just trying to eat dinner and I could feel this grown woman at another table staring at me and every time I looked up, she would turn her head away. Then she thought she was being all sly and took my picture with her cell-phone camera just when I was taking a bite of pasta. I wondered 'why doesn't she just say hey, can I take your picture?' because I really don't mind. So I whipped out my cell phone and took HER picture which definitely bugged her (and made me laugh all night!). I figured she should know what it feels like and maybe then just eat her dinner. Otherwise, I just try to be myself and people are cool with me.
