Do you think that Kelly Clarkson will be just as famous as Whitney Houston,Cher,Bette Milder,or Diania Ross?Mabe in 20 or 10 years from now people still have not heard of Kelly, she should market her self. 'bREAKAWAY IS A GOOD SONG,BU,Whitney's The Greatest Love Of All has it staying power for another 20 years. Ordo you think that Kelly will dissapear in a year or so.?

See, the thing with those signature songs, those came in good amounts back then. Nowadays, the songs from the last two years that everyone will be singing in karaoke bars across America 10 years from now will include ... probably "Goodies" and "Yeah". There hasn't been a "true" anthem song released by anyone, in my opinion, in the last few years, versus what we had in the 90's with songs like "Hero", "One Sweet Day", "I Will Always Love You", etc.
However, about Kelly's success, let me just say that I am VERY proud of Miss Clarkson for doing outstanding on the charts. "Breakway" and "SUBG" have both reached #1 on American Top 40, and the airplay charts. "Breakaway" has been on the Billboard Hot 100 for 40 weeks, and "SUBG" reached #2, which is rare for a pop song (usually it's rap that dominates, unfortunately). She's just released a new single, "Behind These Hazel Eyes", and it's already #4 in airplay! So, yeah, with the right choice in singles and such, she'll be on the right track to a long career. Atleast she has the voice and personality to back it up. I'm pretty sure she won't be one of those girls who decides to pose topless for a magazine or anything.

I think she has the staying power. She might not get the publicity of say, Mariah, but shell have the staying power.

I agree with everyone here. I definitely think she has the staying power. She's a great singer, everyone loves her, and she's realistic.

I hope she stays around that long. She's probably one of the very few female popstars at the moment with actual talent.

Kelly's doing so many things right. Her songs are always on the radio. She's very well known. AOL music pimps out her songs like whoa. Breakaway has been a huuuge seller and I know lots of people today who are still going out and buying it after hearing BTHE on the radio. Maybe it's just me but it seems like she was a normal star before she had the single "Breakaway" and then she totally blew up after releasing her second cd. She's already working on her second independent tour. I THINK SHE'S HERE TO STAY! And she's set the standards pretty dang high for any other American Idol to ever get within her playing field.

I honestly had some doubts about her in the beginning. I thought "You know, she only won American Idol, but she's gonna fizzle out later." But look at her now. She's come so far and she's now a star in her own right. She's now known as simply "Kelly Clarkson," the way she should be known as, not as "Kelly Clarkson: The first American Idol" anymore. She's already successful and I think she'll just do more.
Aaaahhhh...I still need to get her Breakaway CD! I love Behind These Hazel Eyes!! :biglove:

Without a DOUBT Kelly will be OK and more than that...
The thing that says it for me for the most part is, watch when her new singles get released and she performs a song live...
Kelly can make changes in the performances and does...that's NOT an easy task, to take the same song and make it sound fresh LIVE lets say after performing it 5-10 times in a day...
Plus I see in Kelly a leadership quality...she takes GOOD advice but all in all, her albums are HER work...she's got a lot of control and for Kelly, following her intutition will take her places as it always has...

She actually has a voice, which sets her apart from many of the pop tarts out there. She's also taken a stand and taken control of her career - I believe she changed managers.
If she can grow as an artist and avoid the middle-of-the-road crap that plagues artists like Mariah and Whitney (yes, they have good voices, but their material has always been pretty standard), she might have staying power.
Of course, Clive Davis is used to having control over his artists and he has the commercial clout and sales to back up his methods. I would like to see the balance of power shift to Kelly, just as long as she doesn't get lazy or self-indulgent with it. Time will tell.

not neccesarilly "staying power" in 10 years; she could be an actress and still be good then....
