Simple Things :
Marisa Tomei plays Chantel Parker, a columnist for a popular New York magazine. Chantel writes her column about the lifestyle of single woman in her 30s living in New York-entitled "Simple Things". Chantel lives in a studio apartment with her friend and roommate, Lizzie (Jessica Biel)-who also works at the magazine agency. Their other co-workers include: flamboyantly gay Keith (Sean Hayes), quirky Denise (Kim Coles), backstabbing Nikki (Kate Hudson), and down-to-business boss Kathryn (Bebe Neuwirth). Chantel must also deal with her kid-at-heart boyfriend, Adam (Adam Sandler), whom doesn't seem to want to settle down and get married anytime soon. So, Chantel must deal with her work, friends, boyfriend, herself, and other everyday events.

Episodes

Ep1: Pilot Episode:
Chantel celebrates her 5th anniversary at the magazine, by taking Adam, Lizzie, Denise, Nikki, Keith, and Kathryn out to eat at a fancy restaurant-where they reminicise about how her first day went at the magazine and meeting each of the co-workers.

Ep2: Reunion Time:
It is Chantel's 15th high school reunion. Chantel and Adam attend the reunion. Chantel bumps into her old group of friends from high school and talk about the past, as the friends' husbands chat it up with Adam (who pretends to be engaged to Chantel). Chantel also bumps into her high school nemesis, who now is married to Chantel's high school boyfriend-resulting in her getting jealous and she starts to lie about how she and Adam are happily engaged, etc.

Ep3: Deadlines, Deadlines, Deadlines:
Kathryn starts giving out unrealistic deadlines to the gang, who are less than thrilled about the new arrangement. Meanwhile, Adam tells Chantel, he is not ready to settle down and get married anytime soon, which upsets Chantel.

Ep4: Too Much Time Together:
Lizzie and Adam feel Chantel spends too much time with the other one and not enough time with them. Chantel has the two sit down and talk it out, resulting in the two bonding. Chantel becomes jealous when they spend more time with each other than with her-causing her to think Adam and Lizzie are having an affair.

Ep5: The Funeral:
Kathryn's dad has died of a stroke. Kathryn is surprised to see Chantel, Lizzie, Denise, Nikki, and Keith at her dad's funeral. Everything is going fine and dandy, until all hell breaks loose: Keith, Nikki, and Lizzie put up a bet (before they got there) to see who will be the first (of the 3) to leave with a phone number.

Ep6: Adam's Brother:
Adam and Chantel get a visit from Adam's brother, Chris (Ben Stiller), who ends up having a one-night-stand with Lizzie. Chantel fears Lizzie will become too attached to Chris who just wanted a fling. Yet Lizzie surprises them by announcing she just wanted to have a fling as well. Meanwhile, Nikki has a cold. The gang freaks out and wants nothing to do with her until she's better. Nikki lies and says she's fine, and ends up giving Keith and Denise her cold.

Ep7: Controversial Comment:
Chantel makes a controversial comment about ladies getting abortions and stating her pro-abortion beliefs into the article. Resulting in tons of "hate-mail", a lengthy lecture from a truly upset Kathryn, and fear of being attacked in public.
